I’ve play a few times and was confused why would say that but her dad was the one who told the same thing “ Why Pink” ... why couldn’t he just see she want to break the family chain she want to be the best she could for him and I understand her. My father was the same way he didn’t she a beautiful daughter and only saw what he wanted but what was evil in his eyes... funny how abuse can change a person so quickly and it never leave :(

      @@darthkitten95 When I got the first ending when she forgave her father I had tears running down my eyes because my x dad did the same thing to me and my family. All he wanted was perfection with all of his children. In the end we have nothing to do with him especially me and because of it I can relate to the first ending but if I ever become a mother I would never expect my kids to be perfect. If they want to draw a picture of a pink horse I will say that is art and not question them why did they choose that color. In the end I will never forgive him.

    So the line insanity runs in the family is true in all the scenarios but in different ways.
    Where in the forgiving ending she has her own family but will probably started to act more like her father in a sense when she mirrors her father and says "but why pink?"
    The other one where she doesn't forgive she started to act more like her mother who went insane with sadness and hatred and in the way that it ended with the burning building was very apropo since her mother also got severely injured by a fire which caused all of the insanity to start in the first place.
    Lastly, the "inheritance" ending where she finally embraces her family insanity and starts up what her father couldn't finish she reaches the peak of her insanity which starts up the cycle all over again. Don't kill me if u think this is wrong :p

In the last, she stops fighting her insanity and starts up what her father couldn't finish.

      Berker Berki Let’s not call it bad behaviour yet. All she asked was ‘why pink?’ I know the dad said the same thing before, and I also believe it’s probably gonna be the same outcome as with her father but I wouldn’t call questioning a child’s choice of colour a ‘bad behaviour’ o 3o

    Going to go out on a limb and say that the Inheritance is coming off of The Painter's ending from the Layers of Fear. as the space on the wall was only there with that particular ending. But it's there throughout the entire game no matter which ending you get on in here. So her father found solace before he died and got over his madness, but his daughter's line 'madness runs in my family' is, pretty apt.

    2:21 everything goes back to the same. It wasn't the house, a place doesn't have that kind of power, not unless you grant it to it. It was all of them. Her father, her mother and everyone they surrounded themselves with. The house was nothing more but a reflection of its holders, they were the ones beyond hope and redemption.

    Did anyone else notice the blocks under the paintings say "Salve Regina"? It's Latin for "Hello Queen". That's a really impressive little touch, with the whole "Princess" thing they had going on. It's cute he would change her nickname to reflect her adulthood.

  • @Phalxxx
    @Phalxxx 8 лет назад +24

    I liked the 'Salve Regina' in the unforgiven ending's blocks. Nice.

    • @Phalxxx
      @Phalxxx 8 лет назад +3

      Well, it's a reference to a Catholic song. The song can be construed as a plea to the Virgin Mary for forgiveness. Which fits the general idea since the Painter/Father is asking for forgiveness and at the time viewed his young daughter as an innocent. As to why it fits the 'unforgiven' ending, I'm not really sure. Maybe because the daughter is dwelling in anguish? Or maybe because the song is traditionally sung at the end of things, and she dies in that ending. I can't say for certain, but I though it was a cool reference.
      In the 'forgiven' ending the letters spell out 'Doll House Benning'. The only thing I was able to find on that was an artist (named Benning) who made a giant doll house replica. It seems to be an apt reference for the game itself, but I'm not sure how that fits that particular ending, either.

    • @JadedGothButterfly
      @JadedGothButterfly 8 лет назад +5

      +Phalxxx, it fits the ending in a way that Benning herself burned the doll house she'd made to the ground.
      "In 2006, Saskatchewan installation artist Heather Benning came across the derelict farmhouse and spent more than a year transforming it into a larger-than-life dollhouse.
      Over time, the structure became less stable and the foundation began to crumble. So on March 21st, Benning set the house on fire."
      She said, "It was always my intention that I would destroy "The Dollhouse". I did not want to see it fall down or get vandalized. No one vandalizes a memory unless it was a bad one"

    • @JadedGothButterfly
      @JadedGothButterfly 8 лет назад +2

      +Phalxxx, also what you say regarding Salve Regina is perfectly correct, I'll just add a few tidbits of my own;
      "Salve Regina" is a Marian (something focused on the Virgin Mary) Hymn, and an example of Marian art is Madonna by Raphael. I mention this because, in the original game's (not the DLC ones) ending of "Wife and Child", the portrait he paints of them is stunningly similar to Raphael's "Madonna". Google it.

    The story of "Layers of Fear" is a story of choice. To choose between your insanity/your world/your individuality/what will immortalise you and put you above the world that abused and corrupted you, at the cost of your body and soul, the very things the world wanted you to sell. Or your sanity/what the world wants you to be and that's going to make you just like everyone else, in a way proving that you were unable to handle the pressure of fame and would rather live among the mortals, even if you feel you won't have to prove anything anymore to neither others or yourself. In the first game, the artist and the daughter needed to choose between their love for the world or their insane talent. In the second game (since I believe the director and the play are real but are distorded due to the protagonist's perception of reality), he needs to choose between allowing the director to turn his history into a spectacle for everyone to see and simply have his strings pulled in the name of the show, or be like his sister, and take control over this story, not allowing the director to show everyone who the protagonist really is, but rather who he wished he was (his sister), thus puting him above the other actors who simply take orders and are pulled by the plot, instead of taking control and move the plot themselves.

  • @JabamiLain

    5:51 maybe it's better either this way or the "Unforgiving" ending. After all, the "Forgiving" it's nothing more but a superficial and shallow redemption, created to ease her mind and prevent her from facing reality.

    Would it be safe to say the endless loop ending from the first game ties in with "True" Inheritance ending because shes gonna attempt to finish what her father couldn't. The Portrait ending ties in with the unforgiven ending due to him achieving what he believed to be "Perfection" and she couldn't forgive him for what he did to herself and her mother. While the Mother and Child ending goes with the forgiveness ending because he kills himself for his actions and the daughter accepts the portrait of her as the apology but still inheriting the insanity

  • @swagpotato720

    In the forgiveness ending her toy blocks spell out "Dull House" or maybe an incorrect/childish spelling of doll house? In unforgivingness they read, as close as I can tell "salve regina" or if you read Regina backwards it becomes Aniger, which is suspiciously close to Anger in sound and spelling. The i might even be removable because it looks pretty close to an upside down 1 which isn't a letter. Both seem to play on the theme of numbing the pain. If you destroy the house it "dulls" the pain, but we see through her actions that it doesn't remove it. If you destroy yourself we see that Aniger/Anger is a salve (a word that personally makes me thing of putting a salve on burns) but once again a salve cannot truly heal. Only the final ending doesn't have any of this hidden writing, or subtle hints at the futility of her solutions.

      This isn't a guide video, but my guess is that your actions throughout the game need to be in favour of your father. For example, show your father in a good light when in the flashbacks and always follow his portrait etc.

    So wait. Her dad's not actually that "nuts" most people just think that he is because of how he acts just to make a masterpiece,but in actuality,he goes through some kind of psychological process(the game and DLC levels.collecting memories,feelings,ect.) just to make such art that people enjoy. In her Dad's time he was a slave to the people cuz he needed to paint just to keep living, but in the time of his daughter,now you can paint and post your "junk" online for all the world to see. And you won't just get famous oh no, you get followers,people on RUclips talking about you and even inpire other people. So yeah I can see how the true ending makes sense cuz she doesn't inherent the madness,she inherited the creativity madness.

      I don't think Dorian's daughter (if it is indeed Dorian Gray) lives in the information era, i think it's more like the 30s if we are realistic about the time and technology avaliable in the game.

      hmmmm,yeah. but still...atleats she's not gonna be treated like a freak although like some/most famous people today have haters so she will to. my thing makes sense cuz she inherits the wrong "madness" after the forgiving ending and he violent cycle goes on

    Can someone explain how I'm supposed to get all the endings. The video didn't really help that much

    • @MrElias760
      @MrElias760  8 лет назад +13

      The video isn't supposed to be a guide video. Just to show each ending. I'll explain it however:
      Forgiving:
      In short, the sequences throughout the game will all need to follow a pattern of showing that your father's actions were supposedly based on his mental stability resulting from his "stressful" occupation and your mother's devastating injuries. The following will help you trigger this ending.
      1. Always follow your father's portrait.
      2. When you enter the workshop, always use the paint brush rather than crayons.
      3. During the section where you are told to sit still and look at "me", you need to keep your crosshair on him.
      4. Correctly playing the tune on the piano.
      Unforgiving:
      In short, the sequences throughout the game will all need to follow a pattern of showing how insane and horrible the father was. The following will help you trigger this ending.
      1. Always follow your mother's portrait.
      2. When you enter the workshop, always use the crayons on the easel rather than the paint brush.
      3. In the small room with the rat traps, lock the door before your father gets to you.
      4. During the section where you are told to sit still and look at "me", you need to constantly look away and anger your father.
      5. In the bedroom, do not turn on the gramophone while your mother is pleading.
      6. Purposely anger your father while playing the piano.
      True inheritance:
      I don't know for sure what triggers it. However you need all the puzzle pieces and to do the same as forgiving.

    It's stupid.

    • @MrElias760
      @MrElias760  8 лет назад +5

      It is quite hard to say what the correct ending is. I think Bloober intended for it to be discussed and analysed, which is why there's 3 endings and why there's never been a real answer to the real ending. On one hand, yes, the father was cruel and abusive to his family. On the other hand, as the daughter says in the DLC, the father was blind to the world, unless it was translated to him through a canvas. If we were to choose the true ending, I would say the 3rd one is true, on the basis that insanity runs through the family, which it kinda does as demonstrated throughout the DLC.

    • @alexm9104
      @alexm9104 8 лет назад

      I thought not about "real" or "true" ED, but about how to end this father-shit story right.
