My diary from 1952 (I was 12): During the ride home from Long Island I remember my 1st traffic jam and a late night disc jockey introducing the 1952 record “The Sun is Shining, Oh Happy Day” by saying “it was so bad, he would eat his hat if it ever got popular.” I kept track of that song and it did become an international hit without any initial support from the music industry.
Love Larry Hooper and the Lawrence Welk show, I been watching it since I was 12, I'm 63 now so that's 51 years I've been watching and enjoying Lawrence Welk and I'm still watching every Saturday at 5:00 pm on the PBS channel.

(Doo-doom, dah-doo-dad-doo-dah-doo-doo) (Doo-doom, dah-doo-dad-doo-dah-doo-doo) The sun is shinin'-oh, happy day No more troubles, and no skies are gray Ever since you said those words to me (Dah-doo-dad-doo-dah-doo-doo) You said you loved me, I know it's true My life's complete, dear, for now I have you Oh happy day-o-oh, lucky me (Dah-doo-dad-doo-dah-doo-doo) The moon is shinin'-oh, happy night Come to me, darlin', and hold me so tight I need your lovin', really an', yes, I do (I need your lovin', indeed I do) You said you loved me, I know it's true My life's complete, dear, for now I have you Oh, happy day-o-oh, lucky me (Dah-doo-dad-doo-dah-doo-doo) Oh, happy day-o-oh, lucky me
My grandfather Kenny Trimble is right above Larry's head playing trombone. The guy with the flat top. Not sure if this is true yet I have a childhood memory that Larry was Lawrence's milkman and discovered his voice in a chance meeting. Any truth to that I wonder? Thank you for posting. I have seen and heard videos of my family I never would be able to if it wasn't for youtube. Thank you!
I've been looking for THIS SONG SUNG BY THIS GUY. I last heard it in High School (in 1951) when I was a "little less mature" and certainly a little less musically knowledgeable. I loved it then. I don't now. Can't even imagine WHY I liked it then. I guess I did a little growing up since 1951. But for those who LOVE it now, try the 9 minute (repeatedly singing the same 2 verses over and over again and again and again, etc.). It is on RUclips at this same SEARCH listing "Oh Happy Day - Lawrence Welk song" TRY IT YOU'LL LOVE EVERY BORING MINUTE OF THE 9 MINUTES
LARRY INSPIRED ME ENOUGH I DEVELOPED 4 OCTIVE RANGE. UNFORTUNATELY I DIDN'T KNOW HE WAS JUST OVER DUBBING, SHORT OF A LIVE PERFORMANCE. I'M 73 NOW. SO MUCH FOR FANTASY
I’d be much more inclined to watch TV (and maybe pay for cable, too) if they had quality programming like what was on between 1960-1980. Not necessarily reruns, but the style and substance of the shows set in today’s time. Art imitates life, and life imitates art, for good or ill.

Yes! As a kid of 10 he fascinated me. Myron Floren as well, and of course JoAnn Castle. Welk was a great entertainer!
Love this guy. I wish to get such a voice...
Smoke a carton of cigarettes a day, you'll get such a voice.

I feel unmasculine next to his voice.
