This paticular episode made me comment for the first time today. Kosem, as much as she had her flaws was a matriach of her family and the state. She was not greedy for power.. in fact in a past episode, she expressed her feelings to step back and watch her sons take care of the state. She expressed her exhaustion from the stressful duty to take care of her ungrateful family and state at the same time, and would step back once she sees the sultan do the same like she did during her regiment. But... no sultan was able to step up. They all failed her, themselves and the state and was therefore forced to take charge ONLY when it was necessary, risking herself over and over in the process. She is admirable and pitiful at the same time. She is a victim of their ancestral politics, demeaning customs, societal pressere and family burdens. She was born and lived in a time not worthy of her rare attributes and spirit. The ottoman empire was fortunate to have her. It wouldn't have lasted its time if it was not for Kosem.

This is a dramatic show BASED on real characters however, the truth behind the walls of the palace is different. I like to believe that all the sultans are serving the purpose of the continuation of the ottoman empire and for the reasons it was built for. Unfortunately however, this is human nature, and many just want their name to be mentioned in the history as being the most powerful and the most significant. Others want the perks of being at the top of the world, few those are the ones serving the true purpose of being an islamic caliph. From the historical information gathered about kosem and her reign, she was power and wealth greedy. Though this served the continuity of the dynasty, it came at a cost of struggle and bloodshed for power..this is just my humble conclusion after reading and breaking down the history of the ottoman kingdom.
