    Thanks to Home Depot and DeWalt for providing a review sample.
    The DW065E is great for area and volume calculations, but having to jump through hoops for continuous measurement mode is a big detractor.

    Looked at a bunch of these reviews you are the only one who actually explains how it works, Thanks, Good Job!

    Anything in the less than 2 foot range is easy to do with a common tape measure.
    I got the Dewalt DW099E NIB in a $5.00 auction box plus a lot of other useable items in the same box.
    The actual cost was pennies.
    Thanks for the thorough review!

    If I'm staying and pointing out of my chest(1.6m) to a point 5 m horizontal to me,is it will show 5 m or more (pythagorean theorem)?

    • @DoresoomReviews
      @DoresoomReviews  3 года назад +1

      It will show the straight line distance to where the laser dot is, since it has no way of knowing what angle you're aiming it. So if your point is on the ground and you're holding it up in the air, it will give you the hypotenuse.

    Caution when the batteries get low it also gets very inaccurate!
    An entire inch off when making very important measurement
    Went back to metal and AFTER changing batteries was spot on accurate

    • @DoresoomReviews
      @DoresoomReviews  5 лет назад

      Thanks for pointing that out! I've noticed that with my Bosch laser distance measure too, but that one has the decency to be so far off that you know it's not an accurate reading. I think I was getting something like 8' for a measurement that I knew should be 18-24". Only one inch off is enough to really screw you over, but not be immediately obvious.

      Glad it was helpful! I personally prefer Bosch laser distance measures over this one. The older 50' Bosch GLM15 I compared this DeWalt one to in the video is still my go-to - I'm not even sure where this DeWalt one is in my tool box right now. Bosch has a newer 65' version for less money than this DeWalt anyway: amzn.to/3tuy0GD (but it doesn't do automatic area and volume calculations)

      @@DoresoomReviews Thanks for the quick reply. It would seem that automatic area calculations would come in handy for estimating paint jobs and other DIYs around the house would come in handy wouldn't you agree? Have you tried the Milwaukee one at all?

    • @DoresoomReviews
      @DoresoomReviews  3 года назад

      Yeah, it depends on what you want to use if for, but area calculations can be really handy for paint or flooring projects. I haven't used the Milwaukee, sorry.

      @@DoresoomReviews Thanks for the response.
      Just wondering since you're dialed in pretty good with Milwaukee future tool releases, do you know if they are considering developing a Gen2 for their M12 Rocket Light? They been doing a lot of updates with the M18 Rocket, but none for the M12. I'm considering purchasing a M12 due to how light and compact it is, but if they are going to update the LEDs/light output/battery efficiency with a new Gen model I'll hold off.

    • @DoresoomReviews
      @DoresoomReviews  3 года назад +1

      I haven't heard anything about a Gen 2 M12 Rocket Light. I actually went to college with one of the engineers who designed the first one, but whenever I ask him about any upcoming tool releases I just get a "I can neither confirm nor deny" for an answer. 🤣

    is there anything out there that is recent , simple and calculates sq ft?

    • @DoresoomReviews
      @DoresoomReviews  5 лет назад

      This is one of the simplest laser measures I've found that calculates area. Most that do have a lot more buttons. The Bosch GLM 35 is a pretty close competitor to this one price and feature-wise, with better max distance: amzn.to/2Vvspjq I haven't used it myself, but I've been very happy with my Bosch GLM 15, so I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

      @@DoresoomReviews Thanks for your reply, I ended up getting the Bosh GLM20, really happy with it, I just wish it had an option to calculate sq feet too, then it would be the ultimate measure tool for the money.

      I'm not aware of any. To be accurate for linear distance, it would have to have a pretty awesome gyro in it.

      The manual says "Received signal too weak, measuring time too long." What distance and surface type are you trying to measure? If you're at the upper range, or on a matte surface that could be the issue.

      Yep. I wouldn't recommend it if you plan on using it outside at all. The Bosch I'm comparing it to isn't much better, but I've been able to make out the laser dot from about 8' away when outside with that one.

    Inches - its 2020 - how come America uses inches - my Grandad in 1950 used inches .

    • @DoresoomReviews
      @DoresoomReviews  4 года назад +1

      In construction it's an easy answer - every existing structure uses inches and feet based standards. Distance from center of stud to center of stud is 16". Width of a sheet of drywall is 48", which is conveniently exactly 3X stud placement. I'll agree that the metric system is a lot more easy to use, but converting would be a nightmare that would have significant economic impacts.

    This thing sucks! Can't even calibrate it either. Its constantly 1/8 to 3/8 out. Going to add 1/8 shim on the bottom so it's more accurate. Pretty stupid you have to do this.

    • @DoresoomReviews
      @DoresoomReviews  4 года назад +1

      Mine wasn't that far out. If you just got yours, I'd return it as defective. DeWalt's spec is 1/8" accuracy, so if it's not meeting that it should definitely be covered under warranty.
