Thanks for posting that video. I just bought a '81 GS550 which isn't running. I am looking forward to doing what you are doing. Please keep the videos coming, cause I am new at this as well.
At least someone with a worse engine than mine... :D Last year I bought a modified 1978 GS500 with the GS550 top end and carbs - still working on it. :)
Man i also got a 500, people barely seem to know about them. Beleive i have upgraded carbs (the ones in this build) but they're a bit leaky, really weird behaviour. How's the progress after 4 years? Things i should keep in mind?
Brass wire wheels are great but if you want to remove that carbon real quick just use some chem dip and let it sit and it will come right off. Also, if you want to get the exterior metal real clean, use some ospho mixed with distilled water 50/50 and let it sit for a few and scrub with a stainless brush👍
Perdón por molestar, ¿Como se mide el aceite a la suzuki 550cc, y que numero se le pone, y si se pone quitando el tapon que tiene del lado derecho. gracias
I found a barn bike that was sitting for years but was complete. Don't know how long since it ran. Bike had 5600 miles on it should I rebuild it or try and get it to run? Its out of the bike right now so I can really test it. Any info is appreciated.
Any engine needs 4 things to start and run: compression, air, gas and spark. What I would do is: 1) test for compression 2) test for spark 3) clean the carburetors 4) get her started. Last, after you get her running check for any air leaks.
Thank you for your reply. I came upon another question I was hoping you could answer. IS there a place to get rear swing arm bearing for a 1981 Suzuki GS650G? I cant find anything online.
@@isjones2112 I was able to replace mine. You may want to also look for bearings for the GS650 or even the GS750. Sometimes it's the same bearing. However, before doing so make sure you compare if they truly are the same by looking at the part number. Google "suzuki parts house" and start from there.
Thanks for the info! I have brake question. I took the rear brake apart and the pistons were stuck in the caliper. I got them out and cleaned it all up. There is a very small piece of rust on the piston. Do you think I should replace the pistons or can I do just the seals
@@ianjones5872 if it is surface rust you can scrape off the rust with 500 sand paper. use 1200 at the end to smooth it out. if the rust is very deep and is causing pits then you'll need a newer piston.
Hey man nice video! Got the same bike, 77 gs550 but one of the carburetors seem to give out! The #1st one to e exact.. Is there any thing possible to do in order to get it working(the rest are good), or is it better to buy new ones? Pls appreciate any feedback!
Gracias mil
G'day mate you are doing a very good job, that engine is really looking like new. Well done regards John Tasmania Australia. PS is the head straight and not warped, does it need machining?
Can you plz help shed some light on the problem I'm facing with my motor? There's a strange noise coming from my engine. Video's at 'Noise - suzuki gs550'
