  • Caribena versicolor, also known as the Antilles red tree spider or the Antilles pinktoe tarantula, is a species of tarantula native to the island of Antilles in the Caribbean Sea. This spider is known for their bright colorations, and this makes them a must-have tarantula by all tarantula keepers. Its jut one of those spiders where you gotta have one in the collection.
Despite being somewhat delicate, Caribena versicolor tarantulas make amazing first-time pets for tarantula keepers due to their super docile and calm nature.
They do not show any signs of aggression, nor do they kick hair - both which are super sought after qualities in new tarantula keepers.
They are arboreal species, meaning they live in trees and make webs, which makes them visually striking and interesting to observe. Additionally, females have a lifespan of around 10-12 years, providing a long-term commitment for those who want to care for them. They are also hardy eaters and are not picky about their diet, which makes them easy to feed. Overall, their bright colors and docile nature make them great conversation starters and a perfect addition to any collection.

The male’s death could’ve EASILY been prevented by taking things slow. Not only having two pairings at the same time, but rushing them is what killed the poor little guy. What a waste of a perfectly good C. Versi!

I'm by no means an expert, but all the other spider pairings I've seen on youtube, the male get's put a good distance from the female, just outside of their home web so the male can smell the female, start drumming slowly and let the dance begin. It can then take hours for the spiders to have contact with each other or even properly acknowledge each other, it concerned me just how close the male was put to the female, and then not being allowed to put distance between himself and the female.
I don't agree with him at the end when he says it happens and there's nothing he could have done. Time and space is what he could have done

I truly wondered if the female had been double fed before the pairing? It seems as though he wasn’t expecting to breed Big Bertha, so that makes me wonder if she was hungry the way she took him down so fast? Also, that male had to be a bit worn out after chasing the first 4 females all over the cork bark and table, plus all over the hands of the handler. This seemed like a VERY rushed, unprepared, unnecessary death! 🤔🕷🥲💔😞🤷‍♂️

@@alexanderbickford7536 I think you are right about him being skilled at a great many things. It’s obvious just watching him handling these super fast Tarantulas that he has a great deal of experience. I just think he made a mistake or two with the last male breeder. Everyone has their own way of doing some things, but even those with extensive backgrounds & great reputations can make a mistake or two. It might have just been the speed with which that male was placed with a 5th consecutive female (in under 15 minutes)? Perhaps she hadn’t been feed super well just prior to breeding since he had absolutely no plans to use her that day until the prior 4 failed? It doesn’t make him a bad breeder or keeper. Things happen, and when they’re put on camera & then uploaded to RUclips, people have the right to question those things, and outcomes. 🤔🕷🤷‍♂️

Was the female even primed before putting the male with her ? She should have had a good meal before putting him in there. After so many fails he should have been put away and tried at another time. Hate to say it, but this is what happens when a man doesn’t listen to, and pick up on the clues given, my a man. He was REJECTED. Not once. Not twice. Not three times. But four times. FOUR TIMES. Then, after FOUR FEMALES REJECTING HIM, you put him in with a massive predator. Not only was he jacked up, after trying to breed four times, so he wasn’t taking his time, but did you ever consider, after talking about how amazing they are, how they JUST KNOW INSTINCTUALLY what to do, that if you see a male getting repeatedly rejected, no less back-to-back-to-back-to-back that maybe, JUST MAYBE, the females sensed something was wrong with him? Maybe they sensed he wasn’t strong enough to provide them with healthy offs[ring? Maybe they sensed he had a genetic defect of some type? Or, maybe they sensed he just wasn’t right in the head?
Either way, after the second rejection, you should have just pulled another male, not another female because when different females are all rejecting the same male…the way to confirm it’s the male is not continue throwing new females at HIM, but to try a different male with THEM. Had they accepted another male after rejecting him, you would have had your answer. Unfortunately, she gave you the answer by not even messing around with him & giving him the chance to run from him. She’s too old and mature to waste her energy and she sensed prey, not mate. All those clues put together should give you the answer.
Hopefully, next time, you’ll pull the make & try a new one because it might just have been that they didn’t like his immaturity. Now, you’ll never know. 😮Bummer. RIP, Little Buddy.

I have a female GBB that's about 6-7 inches. I'm wanting to breed her just having trouble finding a male without buying one

Kinda fucked up I'll admit you did try to force them to breed which in the animal kingdom whenever the female is stressed they'll end up eating whatever they can

Are they not aggresive? Never once see one try to bite you or kick hairs. I hwve a baby one right now.

I'm a novice and you're the pro. But I was wondering. Could that have been avoided had you fed all the females first? She seemed very hungry to take him like that. Just a thought on my part.

I saw on another comment that he feeds his T’s once a week. Which is really good. When breeding I’ve noticed that some keepers will feed the females a bit extra a day or 2 before, but he never said what day he fed these girls… 🤷🏼‍♀️😬

Avics are probably the most harmless tarantulas i have handled. They shoot poop rather than bite for the most part.
