I have been suffering from (HERPES) disease for the last four years and had constant pain, especially in my knees. I see myself in these kids. When I was in primary school, my older brother and I used sell vegetables to help ourselves raise money in exchange for school supplies. It was exhausting but this is how we survived school in those days.
In my hometown, we have to work hard and are taught to do so at an early age just like these kids.
Surprisingly, those with decent jobs who we know have the means better than many in our neighbourhood often times asked half the price of our vegetable which wasn't really fair, and we don't have someone in our place like Basel to help us whole heartedly.
This video just reminded me of my childhood. Despite the hardship, I'm happy because that inspired me to what I am today. Not rich but satisfied because I'm inspiring hundreds of young individuals to realise their goals despite the difficulties.

Its good to teach our children the value of work & money. We live in a community where teachers, government employees & students have their training. When we were young we used to sell various stuff like soap, slippers, sanitary napkin, shampoo, baby oul, bread, coffee &, other things needed by those who attend seminars & summer school during summer vacation. After seminars or summer school we sell plants, broom & other Baguio souvenirs like keychain, strawberry jam, peanut brittle, etc. We don't bother our parents with money to buy our trade because we used to save in our piggy bank. Those were the days when we get contented with nilagang saging, nutri ban, nilupak, suman, tupig, biko, & other native cakes for our snacks & drink water so we can save some of our school money. It was fun to sell & earn more.We were not forced by our parents but we enjoyed doing it. I am surprised now because children are not allowed to work at a young age. They indulge themselves in playing with their gadgets. I still believe that we instill the value of work & money to our children so that they will learn to be responsible.
After summer we have a lot more earned & we could buy the things we need for school like notebooks, bags, pens etc of our choice. We also buy our own shoes, Greg shoes or Samson, no need to make our parents worry that much.
Today, I am thankful that I have experienced doing those things during my childhood & i learned a lot. Though we are not considered rich we're happy & contented and comfortable with our life. Teach your children even only with household chores so they'll not be hard up making their own life in the future

I grew up struggling but there were people like Basel along the way that helped me make my ends meet. My mom said before she passed away when I was ten years old, and she said Ray, "Ang kahirapan ay hindi hadlang sa iyong tagumpay." In English, "Poverty is not a hindrance to success." I treasure these words that my mom said to me which kept me energized to reach my dreams. This time, I will be back in the Philippines after I retire to help poor Filipinos.
