  • Line M1, officially referred to as the M1 Yenikapı-Atatürk Airport/Kirazlı metro line, is a rapid transit line of the Istanbul Metro. Opened in 1989, it was the first rapid transit line in Istanbul and Turkey, and its opening started the revival of mass-transit in Turkish cities.
The M1 consists of two train services, M1A and M1B. Both services run on the same line from Yenikapı to Otogar, where the M1B branches off to Kirazlı, while the M1A continues on the original line to Istanbul Atatürk Airport. The M1 has 23 stations in service, of which 11 are underground and 3 elevated, and has a total length of the line is 26.8 kilometers (16.7 mi). Even though the M1 is fully grade separated, it is considered a light metro line, due to the relatively low passenger capacity compared to other lines of the system.
Since this line is the oldest modern rail line in İstanbul, it has relatively old vehicles, produced by ABB in 1988. These cars are slated to be replaced as part of a major modernization program planned for the line. Enjoy!

Huh, these trains look a lot like smaller versions of Vienna's old metro trains !

Some of them used to operate in the T4 high platform tram line. After the M1B branch opened they ceased operating there.

Yeah infact they are not german theyre austrian. Made by SGP and are the small brothers of the Vienna Type U and the Vienna Type U is the small brother of the Munich Type A, cuz the Type U got developed out of the A

@@can0913 I was about to ask if these trains were made also by the same company that built the Vienna Type U, because they're very similar xDDDD It's almost the same model, with the exception of the power supply, I see. Because in Vienna is third rail and in Istanbul M1 line is overhead wire.

@@TheRailwayMermaid 😂 Yeah they are. Infact the original Type U even had the same motors and electrical parts like the munich type A. But since the original Type U got modernized into U2 they lost all they charm :(. But you can have the same feeling still here in Munich :D

Fun fact: M1a branch is similar to a light rail system but the M1b branch is similar to a metro system.

Interesting formation of trains, they appear to be made up of articulated cars, like the DLR, however unlike the DLR the trains are formed of four units, and also unlike the DLR there are only 3 driving positions in the formation.
