Alisa Freindlich (born on 8 December 1934 in Leningrad, USSR) is a Soviet and Russian theatre and film actress and pop singer. She was born to the family of Bruno Freindlich, a prominent Soviet theatre actor of German origin, and in her childhood years attended a drama studio at the Leningrad Palace of Pioneers. During the Second World War she survived 872 days of the Leningrad Siege. In 1957, Freindlich graduated from Leningrad State Institute of Theatre, Music and Cinema (now Russian State Institute of Performing Arts) and began her stage career, first with the Komissarzhevskaya Theatre (1957-1961) , then at the Lensovet Theatre (1961-1962) and finally at the Tovstonogov Bolshoi Drama Theatre (1962-present). She also starred in several cult Soviet movies, such as lyrical comedy "Office Romance" by E. Ryazanov (1977), sci-fi drama "Stalker" by A. Tarkovsky (1979) and musical mini-series "D'Artagnan and Three Musketeers" (1978). She was offered lead roles in the 70s only, as she was initially perceived as not pretty enough for the big screen. Freindlich sang in many of her films, as directors knew she would do it in a manner best suited to develop a character and convey the message of the film. In 1980, the Soviet record label "Melodia" released an LP with her songs from movie soundtracks, many of those are still cherished by the public. The video excerpt with Freindlich performing the song "Oй, как хорошо" ("I feel so good"), written by singer-songwriter Yu. Kim, is taken from dark comedy "Adventures of a Dentist" by E. Klimov (1965), where Freindlich played her first major role.
