1:35 I love that IG players still have the ability to choose the direction you're moving for each individual action of the aerial combo. Like in Rise, this shows that you can do your air dash in one direction and then do your air flurry after doing a 180 without focus mode. This way you can basically stick to one spot constantly. You can attacking the head exclusively by; vaulting at the head, dashing away, attacking towards the head, and keep doing that to make your attacks focus the same spot without passing by it as much. That or, if it's moving, you can just adjust angles of both dashing and attacking on the fly. I assume this means, like Rise, doing consecutive vaulting dance combo will buff each following attack up to twice. Odd that it's not 3, like Rise was. Rise you would do 3 vaulting dances and end with diving wyvern to give that move the max buff. I guess we won't be buffing 3 times and doing descending thrust. We'll have to see what the better DPS option is, in the air. Will it be; 3 vaulting dance, 3 vaulting dance into descending thrust, or will it be 2 vaulting dance (for the buff) then descending thrust and reset? My only criticism for IG is that they didn't even bring up the fact that you have to claw grip to aim kinsect without focus mode, charging descending thrust is a more minor issue here. Reminder, focus mode is marketed as an optional thing, on all weapons, but this doesn't feel optional for IG. "You can try to fight a military helicopter with a rock, I won't stop you." Claw grip is dumb, especially when Iceborne had a better solution for this kind of control issue and no ohter weapon needs to do that. I'm also curious, why was the original plan to not give IG and offset? What was the reasoning for not giving IG any of thse new mechanics (perfect dodge/offset since it can't block)? 10:27 The poke and blocking the bite right away. Seeing this footage for lance, I'm so happy that my biggest gripe was addressed. The flow between pokes and interrupting the combo with guarding looks fantastic. In the beta, it felt awful, like lance had stolen everyone else's hit lag. Hmm he does a power guard or something then does a back hop into a leaping triple thrust. That attack reminds me of a move from 5th gen after guard dash. After the hop with your shield in front of you for, for the entire hop, then you would do a triple thrust like that where you could get hit. I just hope full release isn't the only play style, hope the damage isn't too tipped in its favor. I like the idea of it being the more damaging/finisher move that is a little more risky and ZSD being still damaging but less so/a lot safer. That gives you 2 great potions for using meter and each has situational value/use cases.
->perfect guard return thrust seems faster ->counter thrust is back ->charge counter thrust can be done after a normal thrust now, charges up faster, double thrust seems faster and it *might* auto block (last part i think was not needed) ->power guard gets an instant lvl 3 boost after blocking stronger attacks (aka power guard is op now) ->New heavy drill thrust attack after power guard/perfect guard (LET'S F***CKING GOO!!). Kinda like a jumping forward corkscrew jab...kinda ->they also said it had other changes too (from some stuff we have seen the high thrust are faster and they said something about rrefined moveset and guard advance being faster)
I think you might be slightly misunderstanding the Bow changes a bit, the first sentence is not an across the board damage buff. There are 4 categories of shots, Normal, Power, Arc, and Special. Normal refers to the R2 input shots (and the quickshot), Power are the Circle inputs during a combo, Arc is obvious, and Special refers to all the unique other shots like thousand dragons and possibly the jumpshot. Arc shots and normals shots had much lower damage output compared to the other ones during the beta. So I get why increased the values for them. Tracers were the bulk of the neutral damage anyway so them getting a hard tone down is warranted since they're supposed to be more utility than damage. The really big change though is the way the focus shot works having to charge up each individual target will significantly slow down how quickly you can get the move off and still pull off the massive damage. During the beta that was the main source of big damage
From what I seen it looks like they brought back the traditional guarding for Lance which is nice while making Lance more mobile and faster. New Charge Counter looks better while the shiled bashes look damn good. The New move looks powerful and fun. I don't think anyone will be upset to it. I'm looking forward to seeing Guard Dash speed up and maybe they added some new options to the move set of Lance which would be nice. I find it funny that IG got a offset and Lance didn't XD
Sadly I didn't see any fixes I needed to start back using the insect glaive. That side step lunge and none charged combo speed wasnt addressed. Adding a bounce was incredibly low on my list
i think not having a newer demo/beta build is a great move. spend all resources on polishing game and we dont need to experience any more lest it take away from the launch experience
I think the changes they made to S&S, while simple are just what the weapon needed. One of my primary complaints with the sword and shield from the beta was that the perfect rush was basically pointless. It did less damage then other combos at your disposal, it was less interruptible than other moves and its range was so bad only half the combo ever hit. I'm glad they've changed it to be a more reasonable option when faced with the rest of the moveset. I'm also quite happy with the small tweeks they made to the movement regarding things like the side step. I think specifically for monsters like Doshaguma who had quite large hitboxes (fair, just big) that the mobility of the S&S on certain moves was just not enough. the backstep and side slash are very welcome and I think will amend issues I had with it in the beta. Evasion and reliability are the bread and butter of S&S, and these changes are just right to allow for new players to have that ease of access it's known for, while also allowing us S&S mains to find windows to get damage dealing combos in.
My big question is whether power guard still takes increased chip damage because that's going to be very weird to juggle with it's bonus from taking big hits
Its the full release slash I am worried about. I like it but I dont want to just be building up to Full release slash over and over. I prefer my zero sum discharge. Hope I dont have a huge dps loss by not spamming FRS over and over.
Loved that they went into detail with the handful they'd called out before+Bow (LS was mentioned briefly too I think, but it didn't come up here), but wasn't a fan of how they just slid right past everything else with a vague 'other weapons' category. Why have this be an hour and a half and not give us ALL the details, y'know? Hopefully we get a full write up soon. Also not a fan of a 'mostly buffs, little to no nerfs' approach to rebalancing, since like you said it ends up with situations like Bow being overtuned but the response is to...make the moves it wasnt already using to be busted stronger, so now it has even MORE tools to be busted with? How's that a good idea? With any luck though (since they did say without saying that it IS getting at least a few nerfs) they're just avoiding discussing nerfs for PR reasons because they know a lot of players dislike them. Sometimes, they're necessary guys, you can only buff everything but so much before it just doesn't do the job nearly as smoothly as a simple nerf or 2 can
Not a main weapon, but I'm willing to give Lance another chance. I'll have to try and learn the guard counter style. Samurai archetypes rise up! (Bow+LS)
Never really been a fan of the aerial “playstyle” for IG in World, but it sounds like they’re improving what was there so I’m all for it returning in Wilds now! I’m really happy and excited for the changes IG is getting before launch, even if I was gonna main it whether they changed it or not.
The Lance commentary was funny as hell. Tokuda simply said that people were too dumb to use the new moves accordingly, trying to play the old style so bad that it felt clunky to them, so they changed it. I liked the new Lance, my only gripe with it was the new counter after double poke, too risky and too much investment to pull off and i am glad they fixed that. Other than that i actually enjoyed it a lot, i hope they didn't change too much.
People are not "too dumb" to play the new style. It's that conforming to the new style make ppl feels bored. They literally said that the new gameplay falls to a default combat flow 9 out of 10 times, and that lack of skill expression depth is boring to play. They've made the change to charged counter to exactly address that.
Loving almost everything I am hearing. I do hope with switch axe I am not expected to just constantly build up to full release slash though. Its cool and all but I prefer my zero sum discharge and sticking to the monster :D

I'm not so sold on the swaxe, the dmg reduction on the counter is pretty much the same as far as i can see
It might be they're saying because overall damage was increased, they had to reduce the counter damage so it didn't scale up.
