Robyn, you deniers have a particular problem with science. You see, we’ve known about the science of global warming for over a century. The physics is very well studied and understood. Add too much CO2 to the atmosphere and the climate warms. Heat up the climate and terrestrial ice melts and water expands and seas rise. Hotter air holds 4% more water per degree F of rise. Hotter oceans make for hurricanes that intensify more rapidly and do more damage.
Fl has the 4th largest economy amongst the American states & it's completely unsustainable as the ocean rises. Building a wall around it or putting the whole state on pilings is a fool's errand.
48 million people live in Florida too many in one spot too much building large high-rises putting strain on the coral that's underneath the state spell disaster
I always thought there shouldn’t be any homes or people living on barrier Islands or on keys around Florida because it’s mother nature’s not ours. We either live further inland or we just get out of Florida. We live in Venice so I’ve lived through both back to back storms. I can’t imagine what all the keys look like in person siesta, lido, longboat,Anna Maria etc.😮😢
I have family in Clearwater and Naples Florida, none of them want to move,I left in 2017. I dont understand how they do not see reality! There is no denying the extremes concerning natural disasters getting more frequent and super powerful!
As someone who lives in Lee co. Fl. the young lady about the mangroves is right, we keep building on our barrier Islands taking away the natural protection of the mangroves, sea grapes seagrass those kind of things. just look at the Sanibel causeway without any live protection it went under in Irma. we reshape our Islands so that they don't protect the mainland from storms the way they're supposed to, not not just be a playground for humans to remake.
This problem is more world wide than most understand. No matter what the weather does we are not going to stop oil rich countries from selling their oil. There will always be consumers until the oil is gone and the trees along with it.
That what George W. said and then started 2 wars. Florida should be the place to use extensive solar but from what I have seen in SW FL very little is used. Personally I believe lobbyism stand in the way once again. It costs us all dearly unless addressed.
I try to compress the urge to say "I told you so" because so many people's lives have been ruined. But to say climate change is not real defies belief. Insurance companies believe in the science, just check their response to claims and cancellation of policies. Not to mention the premiums. Which leaves the rest of the country having to fund reconstruction. I'm afraid Florida is a write-off. If you live there, you assume the risk that goes with it.
Pay poorer people to move off the beach. Only allow highly fortified homes to be built, and farther back from the beach. Make all beach zones common areas again

The more record breaking weather events we see, the more we should start working on reducing green house gasses. People should not vote for anyone who wants to add to use of fossil fuels just for their own greedy aspirations.

I'm a lifelong resident of Florida and 5 hurricanes in 2 years is a game changer especially for the West Coast of Florida which has been severely affected.
Rising sea levels are a serious concern for Southern Florida. It's tough to think about how this could impact future residents and property values in the area.
I heard how the waters will rise back in geology class 3 grade back in Catholic school in Havana, Cuba , in 1967-69 HS New York City, again the science teacher mention how the atmosphere will change, the waters will rise and islands in the Caribbean and the state of Florida will disappear, I’m now 73 years old maybe I will get to see this fenomenal sad event unfold in my time.
The government? You man little Ronnie? No actually Florida comes and goes every Ice Age cycle and now it's on it's way out again there is nothing the government can do to stop it but yes little Ronnie has made it worse.
The housing market is much, much too expensive ,...you buy homes that the insurance companies cannot afford to rebuild ....these insurance Co. have to rebuild homes that may cost $ 300 - 1,000.000 more in cost of if destroyed...!!! 😱🥴
“Yes, dry land can exist below sea level without being submerged by the ocean, as long as there is a barrier, like a natural geological formation, preventing the water from flowing in”
I was born and raised in Florida, but my family are about to join the herds of families moving north due to the increasing heat, oppressive humidity, and the strengthening hurricanes that are causing us to not even be able to get our homes covered by insurance. This year, our house came a few feet from flooding, something we’ve never seen in our immediate area. My kids will not be able to buy a home here without seriously considering the future and how long it will realistically last. So we out. 😘✌️
Also, as someone who lives in an area very much built to accommodate seniors, I can tell you that THEY DO NOT CARE. They don’t go outside enough to experience the impact. They only notice if they are directly affected, flood, or lose power. But there is such distrust in the media, they still think climate change is a lie being used by our government to take power and make money. Plus, they will die long before Florida sinks, so they have this idea that it will NEVER happen. So my childrens future, their grandchildren, they’re not willing to sacrifice for. It’s easier to deny that there is a problem, or to shrug it off because “if it’s as bad as you say, there’s nothing that will stop it now anyway.” 😢 So the old stay, the young move north if they can, and the children will pay for the sins of previous generations of selfish indulgence.
Everyone looks at the ocean to check for SLR not realizing it’s coming from behind and above “Sea level hasn’t risen an inch my entire life” as the ground under their feet becomes soggy
Much of the planet is becoming inhospitable to human life, We are shredding our habitat. We need to focus on that issue. We refuse - collectively - to face reality. Best to create communities of mutual aid and let civilization continue to collapse in a self-made mess. Who knows what ultimate outcomes will be? Human leaders focus on war , not solutions. “We do not ride the railroad. The railroad rides us.” Henry David Thoreau.
Maybe make FL a complete return to nature? Have desiignated camping/caravan parks/RVs, but not overcrowd them (in case of another catastrophic event) 🤔
I have been in Miami for almost 30 years, and this area has become over populated. Don't know how this developers are building properties with AA few units all over town. This doesn't make any sense! Traffic is horrible and all those insurance companies you're mentioning have been making HUGE profit here. Now, I'm just interested in what Patty is saying, the only one making sense in this echange.
Much of the worst damage to homes & other properties occurred on Florida’s barrier islands. The state should have never permitted developers to build homes on these barrier islands. Because of the massive destruction, there should be no future or rebuilt homes on the barrier islands-to do so, would be throwing good money after bad. -a total waste! (I live inland a few miles east from Tampa on a small hill-the winds were relatively high & it was mostly oak trees in my area which were damaged.)
Climate change heated oceans genersted storms that impacted interior lands In GA, SC, NC and Tenn. This puts to question where would one go to avoid flash flooding like as struck those places. If we contiinue to warm the planet by ever growing green house gass emissions such super storms promise to strike further north as well. A personal decision to make is how can a family cut back on gasoline and methane gas use, including electricity made by utility companies. Even when that is done, our society is entirely wedded to plastic products, a hydrocarbon ladened industry. It is a challenge seniors need help with determining.
Florida needs to go back the way it was100+ years ago when it really was beautiful. Native Americans lived on these coastlines for 1000s of years, survived these storms and flourished without technology, concrete, asphalt, ect! Now they are thinking of paving over inland now? FL is in ruins but not from storms!!!

Add too much CO2 to the atmosphere and the climate warms. Heat up the climate and terrestrial ice melts and water expands and seas rise. Hotter air holds 4% more water per degree F of rise. Hotter oceans make for hurricanes that intensify more rapidly and do more damage.
That’s true in some areas, but you also have to take into account the above normal amounts rainfall that is causing lakes, and rivers to overflow.
@@vltruan seasonal rains are not above normal
I would not place my bet on Florida.
Fl has the 4th largest economy amongst the American states & it's completely unsustainable as the ocean rises. Building a wall around it or putting the whole state on pilings is a fool's errand.
I swear the US has an unhealthy obsession with walls
Jesus i am so glad my father sold all his houses and land 3 years ago in Florida.
Amen To That! Got triple my property value in 2005, after 8 years in my first 🏡 & came back to my paid off 🗽💘🌆Brownstone in Brooklyn, NY!
I can’t imagine what all the keys look like in person siesta, lido, longboat,Anna Maria etc.😮😢
yes a barrier island is literally a barrier to lesson storms - why would we build there
I have family in Clearwater and Naples Florida, none of them want to move,I left in 2017.
In the end not doing anything about climate change is all about the money. ( it costs to much to change) Plain and simple
That what George W. said and then started 2 wars. Florida should be the place to use extensive solar but from what I have seen in SW FL very little is used. Personally I believe lobbyism stand in the way once again. It costs us all dearly unless addressed.
The world will not stop polluting or chopping down rain forest.etc. Justn have to keep prepping for the worst.
Unfortunately prepping for the worst is limited.
Right so only rich people get to use the beach……you are deplorable
Half of Florida will be under water by 2100. There is no getting around that.
Tuvalu as well. So?
Americans are big consumers of energy and resources. In fact the biggest on earth.

Vote all Republicans out of Florida
Pick your method of going blue.

@@adamvivona81Florida was best when it was purple. It’s been a shitshow for 2 decades. Desantis and Rick Scott caused a lot of damage to this state
Overpopulation is the real problem but we won't ever talk about that. Smh greedy humans.
Over population is the excuse given by overpriviledged people who won't accept their part of the responsibility and don't want to lose their privileges. Curbing population growth is part of the plan for sustainability, through equality and education, but you all dismiss that as Marxist communism because you haven't bothered trying to understand.
Did you do you part by not having kids
There’s plenty of room for more folks over population isn’t a thing atm
Over consumption by the US and Europe, and now China and a few other countries is the problem.
Not according to Felon Muck
Horrifying! May God have mercy on us!
Historically, when everything melted, the sea level in Florida was 80+ meters higher. The only part below Ocala above sea level was the Lake Wales Ridge.
This is an example of abject stupidity and greed...No one in their right ind deliberately moves to a hurricane zone...
It's almost willful ignorance. My sister wanted to move to Miami just this summer. I tried to talk about the impact of climate change but it felt like she wasn't taking it seriously. If in 2024 people are moving without considering climate change implications....that's on them.
You know Disneyland is in Florida, they fire fireworks every night, do you see how much they pollute the air?
...you underestimate daily pollution from humans on global scale by far...?
@@volkerengels5298 No, what Im trying to say is... Just by being there and just stand there in front of fireworks watching, and feel the heat of the sun in the morning, not even a 0.5 bottle if water is enough for the whole entire day of walking, ofcourse all countries pollute, I won't say Norway doesn't pollute because I know they do too
Disneyland is in California. Disney World is in Florida.
@@daveassanowicz186 Thank Dave, I was coming to type that also....
Disney is in Kissimmee Florida aka Orlando. They're completely safe from flooding. They strategically placed Disney world there years ago.
During the last Glacial Maximum 20k years ago Florida was over twice the size it is now. Tampa bay was a lake about a 100 mile from the gulf. During the last Interglacial peak 120k years ago the Ocean levels were 28' higher then they are today and less then 30% of the Florida we see today was above water. We are rapidly entering the next Interglacial Peak so yeah Florida is about to go under again.
Fund, yiu mention historic climate change over tens of thousands of years. But physicists tell us that we are now pumping so much CO2 into the atmosphere that heating and cooling that previously took place over thousands of years now take place in decades.
It's Florida It's been known for 300+ years It's a hurricane area. Unfortunately alot of people living in trailers and being poor. Couldn't afford to leave
And now hurricanes are worse

Painful as the moment may be, there will be joy in the morning. Because it's just a test, also a preparation for what's coming ahead of us. So we must continue to have faith that our prayers will reach Heaven and be answered promptly by our father. Eventhough, it may seem painful to us, but we know that God is in control and He's bigger than the powerful storms that are raging before us. Hallelujah!!! 😔 ♥
Why is the international news only covering Florida
Thats why i moved feom Florida Years ago Global 🌎✈️🌎✈️🌎 Warming 🙏
The more record breaking weather events we see, the more we should start working on reducing green house gasses. People should not vote for anyone who wants to add to use of fossil fuels just for their own greedy aspirations.
You should have been listening BEFORE !!! You like pain as teacher.... Fine - but don't think about behaving like this related to climate change.
You would always be too late - until it is too late.
Sadly your words will just enter one ear and exit the other for many Americans, southerners mostly 😢

They should have never opened up the southeast for people to come running in greed greed sick of the greed
I'm a lifelong resident of Florida and 5 hurricanes in 2 years is a game changer especially for the West Coast of Florida which has been severely affected.
Rising sea levels are a serious concern for Southern Florida. It's tough to think about how this could impact future residents and property values in the area.
I don't think that people are getting it because you messages are just direct enough; --I mean that the combustible engine is a huge problem...
Big developers in Florida and elsewhere are going to deny and resist anything that affects their bottom line which is money.
Floriduhans are kinda special. VOTE BLUE!
Your comment is "special" 😅 what is a Floriduhan? This is exactly the type of crap I imagine blue voters think and say.
I heard how the waters will rise back in geology class 3 grade back in Catholic school in Havana, Cuba , in 1967-69 HS New York City, again the science teacher mention how the atmosphere will change, the waters will rise and islands in the Caribbean and the state of Florida will disappear, I’m now 73 years old maybe I will get to see this fenomenal sad event unfold in my time.

developers in the US are out of control - here in Texas theyre building on one farmland at a time evwn tho we are running out of water
It’s the insurance crisis that underlies the whole mess - and the Gov has done nothing
Your style is exceptional!
How long have we known this? A long, long time.
“Yes, dry land can exist below sea level without being submerged by the ocean, as long as there is a barrier, like a natural geological formation, preventing the water from flowing in”
We in the small countries of the world are suffering the impact of climate caused by big industrial countries like the US.
Tony. I agree with you
I was born and raised in Florida, but my family are about to join the herds of families moving north due to the increasing heat, oppressive humidity, and the strengthening hurricanes that are causing us to not even be able to get our homes covered by insurance.
THANKS
Everyone looks at the ocean to check for SLR not realizing it’s coming from behind and above
“Sea level hasn’t risen an inch my entire life” as the ground under their feet becomes soggy
Another major issue is MOLD caused by all the massive flooding... serious health concerns abound!
Im moving to Vancouver Canada, as a digital nomad.
Not a good joke.." Florida Sinking future "..funny it may sound...but oh😢
Much of the planet is becoming inhospitable to human life, We are shredding our habitat. We need to focus on that issue. We refuse - collectively - to face reality. Best to create communities of mutual aid and let civilization continue to collapse in a self-made mess.
Who knows what ultimate outcomes will be? Human leaders focus on war , not solutions.

Maybe make FL a complete return to nature?
Have desiignated camping/caravan parks/RVs, but not overcrowd them (in case of another catastrophic event) 🤔
😂😂😂 u clearly under estimate Florida
Because of polluting corporations! Don't blame us!
Too many cars burning oil to get around. We need to implement a wide reaching electric train network.
Lol 😂
Much of the worst damage to homes & other properties occurred on Florida’s barrier islands. The state should have never permitted developers to build homes on these barrier islands. Because of the massive destruction, there should be no future or rebuilt homes on the barrier islands-to do so, would be throwing good money after bad. -a total waste! (I live inland a few miles east from Tampa on a small hill-the winds were relatively high & it was mostly oak trees in my area which were damaged.)
Scientists and folks who weren’t in a state of denial knew 40 years ago that Florida was a disaster waiting to happen and here we are.
I think , if the CEOs make a bonus at the end of the year, the rates shouldn't go up for the people.
One word for all those people in Florida,,,,,MOVE!!!!!
Okay, will you buy my home?
Miami is the place that I love and want to visit in some day I hope people better soon.🤗😇😊
It’s not a nice place I went there a few months ago. It’s very crowded and people are not nice there.

Anyone living on the coast should be excluded from government assistance.

Basic geometry here, folks. There is more "beach" at the bottom of the cone than at the top. We already know Florida is going away. It won't happen overnight, but, like a tsuname, it won't stop coming. The destruction of crop land by salt water intrusion has been a big problem for decades.
