  • I decided to start my day at Vyšehrad. It wasn’t too hot so I walked there as it wasn’t so convenient on the trams. Google took me down some cobbled streets which reminded me of home, Haworth.
I must have missed a turning when I wasn’t paying attention to Google and the walk ended up a little longer. Having missed the turning meant that I had to climb up the steps! Never mind, the exercise was fine and the view was good.
Vyšerhad is a historic fort in Prague, Czech Republic, just over 3 km southeast of Prague Castle, on the east bank of the Vltava River. It was probably built in the 10th century. Inside the fort are the Basilica of St. Peter and St. Paul and the Vyšehrad Cemetery, containing the remains of many famous Czechs, such as Antonín Dvořák, Bedřich Smetana, Karel Čapek, and Alphonse Mucha. It also contains Prague's oldest Rotunda of St. Martin, from the 11th century.
The cemetery is very impressive and well cared for. I am not really a fan of cemeteries, but I could have spent a lot longer in this cemetery looking at the fabulous headstones and tombs. They really were amazing. I also visited the Basilica is St Peter & St Paul. I love visiting these old churches.
