Dr. Collins, I have your recent book on discovering Sodom; and as I am reading it, I am also listening and watching your Utube videos. Is it not fantastic that all of this is now occurring in these very, very latter days. The similarities between the days of Sodom and today, are uncanny. As an old senior, here, in Canada, I can now really understand that we are nearly there to experience God’s Word, that, “no eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind can understand, what the Lord has prepared for those who love him”. Thank you.

yes I enjoyed it too. Archaeological evidence of the destruction of previous kingdoms according to scripture is one of the best ways of proving the existance of God. Hope to see more of Sodom in the future, probably one of the clearest examples in history to prove something very ugly occurred there. Didn't know they existed for 3000 years prior to the destruction either. Absolutely amazing.

Hint: Bible ... till last book "The holy Qur'an". it must to give a look where scientific still time to time discover things that has been mentioned in the Qur'an more than 1400 years ago. it has advantages over other Holy books which are last one, has only one copy "all the world has same copy", and many others. it is worthy to read the last message of God before die. thank you.

not as you say. God's words for all generations. let me talk about the Holy Qur'an when it was sending to the messenger of God, the Quran gave the people at that time many evidence which they can see like messenger's knowledge about future things and they happens, and many others "you can search for them". However, because this book is from God and he said in the Qur'an this book for that period and all periods after. science till these days discovers things which they have been written in the Qur'an 1400 years ago. like Pharaoh, born, mountains, moving 'running away' of Sun.... many things. I hope you think at least why people around the world leave their religion to be Muslims. Please read much in topics about why Islam is the religion of God. thanks.

@@mohammedbabusail3945 i thought ish=like and m-El = God...lots of arranging of words trying to see what's same as a lot seems to be pretty much same stories just different people with the same concepts in different languages. So like god would also be God man ? Wasn't he also Abraham's son ? Just a different mother, but Sarah was the one who asked for that son. It just seems unkind looking in a modern day, but i'm no scholar of much. I have a good heart as we all do and wonder what we might not quite be reading correctly. Anyway..i wish we really knew what all these things are about. All these churches argue and i had to do word ciphers to try to get a grasp of my own bible, due to all the languages and mixing throughout. The math all comes out though, quite interestingly enough. See what you all get, as i can't read yours. I have to listen to your english lecturers to match things up. They all sound pretty similar and so there must be a little place where some room is left out to match things up. There should probably not be two Gods but this Greek Mythology is where i see all the strange.."Myth" ????? So it seems as though we are not quite looking where we need to from what i got out of this. You know Evil will be doing a lot of tricks to take over and confuse everyone..and hiding while we all harm each other instead of finding where we all should really be looking. I think all have been tricked in a whole lot because Satan is running the world if we are killing, is what i am not seeing love in killing people, and that is very scary. Killing is not loving God's creations, so this is always "first up" in thought, when i begin about thanking God for love and creation and thanking him for life. In otherwords if we are having love and forgivness in these religions ...what is all the killing about ? I don't really comprehend it all, as i think love means caring for our brethren and keeping peace, unless someone is right up on your family. We could just have techno shields instead. There are miles and miles of plenty of lands. I thought peacemaker meant no killing. I wish there was an island where people who do, 'not harm', could just go and say thank you creator of all life, and smile with good manners, and kindly caring ways. I might just be the stange one but i thought that's what heaven was all about.

I understand the gradual progress of archaeology and the necessarily slow and careful acquisition, evaluation, interpretation, and presentation of findings to the scholarly world which, as in this case, isn't very 'friendly' toward the historicity of the Bible. I also understand the competition among various claims for the correct locations of Sodom, Gommorah, Zoar, etc. as part of not only the discovery of historical truth but also of the staking out of professional turf and credibility. I'm personally very happy to follow Dr. Collins' reading of Genesis which lead him to the Tel Hammam site he's excavated north of the Dead Sea and thinks is Sodom, and I'm also happy with the corroboration of the time period which the 'stuff' he's uncovered provides. He strikes me as a careful scholar and I value his reasoning and hard work.
I'm also wondering-based upon the general uncertainty in modern times of the various locations mentioned in the Bible relative to these infamous cities, plus on account of the general 'fit' between various details in Genesis with the Dead Sea area generally-if there's still some 'room' in the evaluation of all the available data acquired so far, including that provided about the site situated below Masada on the southwestern edge of the Dead Sea (where Ron Wyatt and others have discovered high purity sulfur 'globules'-some of which are partially burnt-IN SITU amid much landscape which appears to have been limestone 'structures' that were transformed by great heat and reaction with sulfur into the crumbling, layered material which has been shown on various videos) for Dr. Collins to be RIGHT about the location of Sodom and for Mr. Wyatt to have also been right about his below-Masada site being that of Gommorah? Do we know for certain that Sodom and Gommorah were in very close proximity to each other? Or might they have been situated at almost opposite ends of the Dead Sea (the same way that, say, Ithaca and Seneca Falls are located at opposite ends of Cayuga Lake in upstate New York)?
If one looks up the "valley of Siddim"-and I"m no Hebrew scholar myself-in what sources are available, it seems at least possible that the "valley" referred to may pertain to the whole North-South area in which the Dead Sea (or "Salt Sea") is located. Likewise, the term "Arabah" seems to apply, at least at certain times in history, to the whole Rift Valley area running from the Sea of Galilee down to the top end of the Gulf of Aqaba. The reason I mention all of this is to raise the question: Could the geographic descriptions relative to Sodom and Gommorah in Genesis be broad enough, or at least uncertain enough in some details, to PERMIT Gommorah to be in the SW location while Sodom is at Tel Hammam?
In terms of a massive meteoric event being the means by which God (entirely providentially or otherwise) destroyed these cities, and because meteors not infrequently break into pieces during their high speed entry into Earth's atmosphere, mightn't Sodom (located at Collin's Tel Hammam site, which is visible from Ai and thus matches up with the text of Genesis) and Gomorrah (perhaps located at Wyatt's SW shore of the Dead Sea site) have BOTH been destroyed by a couple of large and highly explosive chunks FROM THE SAME METEOR? Even Dr. Collins' projected direction for the meteor's path-coming in toward Sodom/Tel Harmmam from the southwest-could fit with this scenario provided that the chunk of material which in this scenario fell/exploded over the SW site contained an exceptionally high quantity of sulfur (hence the presence of the sulfur 'globules and purported evidence of high heat/burning of limestone structures there) while another chunk continued onward over the remaining distance (approximately 35 miles) to reach/explode over Sodom at Tel Hammam in turn. Unless I've missed something in the text of Genesis, only Sodom need have been visible to Lot from Ai (i.e., perhaps not also Gommorah?).
A plausible source for a high sulfur-content asteroid to 'fill the role' of the Sodom/Gommorah 'doomsday' meteor might be Jupiter's moon Io, which the VOYAGER spacecraft discovered in 1980-81 to be COVERED with different allotropes of sulfur that were being belched out of active sulfur volcanoes as the spacecraft flew by. It's not extremely likely-but still possible-that a meteor striking Io could knock off a chuck of its high sulfur-content surface material, which could then in turn escape the Jupiter system and eventually find its way into the inner Solar System to 'nuke' Sodom and Gommorah with 'fire and brimstone from the sky' in God's providential timing. Someone with sufficient science training would have to research the sulfur concentration of Io's surface material (as best as we know it at the present time) to see if its sulfur concentration is a match for that found at the below-Masada site or not, but in any case Io might not be the only possible source for such material, although sulfur is certainly 'available' there in abundance.

Im no expert on this topic and dont really care. However I had a secular not religious class in college filled with archaeology. I was stunned to see how many excavations verified Biblical geography and stories. When you say archaeology is not friendly to the Bible I think you got that wrong. I had a secular class on this stuff and made me realize whatever you say about the Bible it has lots of verifiable elements to it in terms of archaeology.

Going to School for my M.S. in O-Chem and it absolutely amazes me how hot the wrath of god was that it melted all the brick (not surprising), I think there’s much less of a chance it being something else then it not being Sodom from everything I’ve seen. I’ve been following this for many years. When I started out I was definitely skeptical about literal interpretation of biblical text. Now skeptic isn’t in my vocabulary. If these had been eyewitness accounts for a CNN story and then backed with all of the evidence we have it would be accepted as canon in main stream society

I will never understand how can a scientist be a religious person. The very essence of the field is working with evidence and not with imagination. Still this is a very important dig, that I personally have been waiting to hear of, so I’m happy Steven and his colleagues put the pieces together. The bible does have a lot of clues on how and where to look for evidence for the stories in it. On the other hand many times the research proves contradictions in the text and reality being displayed as they wanted it to be, sometimes many years after the events have taken place. I guess they were human after all. I live in Israel and have been to many important sites of the era. it is very much interesting to study the connection between the old text and the actual finds. No gods never found, believe me. just different people and a whole ark of beliefs.

That's because militant atheists with an agenda of anti-religious bigotry are the ones who push that stereotype about religion and science being in conflict, whereas this is yet one more example of science confirming biblical history and claims.
I've seen similar conclusions regarding the cosmological argument, the teleological argument, and the myth of the multiverse used to dodge around the evidence of both.
The more I hear militant artists talk, the more obvious it becomes that it is an emotion-based system masquerading as science.
In which case it is atheism and science that are mutually at odds, and this is more so than at any point in our past.
And the more scientific and archaeological discoveries made, the weaker it becomes.

Burning rock was translated as sulphur in some bibles. Burning rock could also be something different.

Highly unlikely. The fire and brimstone sent from heaven made the place a desolation as a means of warning those that Sodom was to be completely destroyed and removed nothing coming up in it's place.

Lol, you had awesome evidence to support the biblical account of a meteor impact, but then you took it to a stretch saying that god sent the meteor because sodom was a certain way. At some point you have to realize that those people had no idea what happened, so of course they’re going to come to the conclusion that “god was angry at Sodom for X, Y, and Z”, but that’s not scientific. I’m surprised you haven’t realized the evidence that Jesus was a metaphor for the sun.

@J DV they would create a myth about the sun because what is the most important thing to our species? Being able to grow food based on tracking the sun. The sun provides us light to see, keeps us warm and dies in the winter, food to eat, and heals us. It’s this mysterious ball of energy that moves around in us the sky and dictates our survival. This is a metaphor that was born of pagan origins, but like everything else in christianity, it was squeezed into the overarching story of jesus in order to assimilate pagans into society. The United Church of God admits all of this. Jesus may have been a real person, but 300 years after his death he took on the role of a metaphor for this assimilation. It’s beautiful, and ends up actually making christian symbology and tradition make more sense. How else can a man be dead in a tomb for 3 days and resurrect? Oh, cause on December 21st the sun reaches its lowest point in the sky for 3 days then rises once again (is reborn). And that’s just one example of many that have been pointed out. The thing is, the bible is not linear. There are multiple lessons and stories being overlaid on top of each other. It’s similar to how words work, where one word could have multiple meanings depending on the context you’re using it in. Oh, you want to learn how to live the best way you can? Read the bible like this. Oh, you want to know how to track the sun through the constellations for growing food? Read the bible like this. Oh, you want to know about the historical records of natural disasters? Read the bible like this. Context is everything. Cool isn’t it?
