Kapton tape works pretty well too. I use that for a 3D printing base material when I use ABS and as a protective barrier when I do hot air rework on circuit boards to keep the plastic parts from melting. That's what I have around so that's what I use for welding when I need it too. Never used PET tape for that but it appears to work just as well with just as little adhesive residue.
There are others that work well. I just use PET since it is what I was introduced with. If the others work well please let me know so I can let others know as well.
Terephthalate -- tera-fa-thal-ate As a textile engineer, I was required to learn how to spell that. It _was_ on the test; every test. :-) Also, PET will burn, but you'll have to get it really hot. I use painter's tape -- cheap, always around, leaves no residue, but will "flame vigorously"
Thanks to the FAA [thought I'd have to dig up a textbook] ( www.fire.tc.faa.gov/pdf/05-14.pdf ) ignition temperature of 407C. PTFE would be best, but no one puts any adhesive on that stuff. (aka "teflon tape")
I've been using this since the 90's....... I started using this tape in the electronics field and thought it worked great for heat on the boards.... I ended up using it on small parts to hold pieces together since late 90's
3 years later and this proves useful, thank you! Is there a specific thickness reccomended? Also thanks for the videos as a whole. Im a beginner and picked up an alphatig 201xd thanks to your recommendation!
Well, damn. I've had a couple of rolls of this from my carbon fiber experiments sitting on the shelf for 2+ years and never thought to use it for this. Woulda saved me throwing tape across the shop a time or two. Sub'd
this is a goooood tip. thankyou very much. i works with electronics so i has some "kapton tape". its heat resistant. it works very good. thankyou very much again.
Brilliant man! I've always used masking tape, out with the old in with the new good tip man always good shit coming from this channel I love learning new things you're the man
hey man love the videos! it would be cool if you could make a video explaining how you started up your fab shop and all the stuff you'll need to do so.
It's an enemy with all. It's really bad when you have to clear residue with mirror finish parts since scrubbing it off will scratch and fog the finish. Thanks for watching!
Hey have you ever tryed this stuff it's good for up to 752degs and a lot cheaper.. 1 Mil Hi-Temp Kapton Tape; 2 Roll Set of Polyimide Film Tape for 3D Printing, Soldering, Insulating Circuit Boards & More only cost $9.99 you can get it in 1/2 wide 252 feet long
this looks like a good deal www.amazon.com/Powder-Coating-Painting-Hydrodip-Sublimation/dp/B00UCBIX1A/ref=pd_rhf_se_s_cp_7?ie=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00UCBIX1A&pd_rd_r=1P7HHCB191F6WPXA3951&pd_rd_w=ZEE5N&pd_rd_wg=uDJEj&psc=1&refRID=1P7HHCB191F6WPXA3951
when I worked at vance and hines we used hose clamps with holes in them.
Two hose clamps and a piece of angle iron. Clamp the angle to the pipe with the clamps. Works a treat.
I have a couple but the tape is faster for me. It also doesn't scratch mirror finishes.

WOW!
this is a great tip. i'm using the PET on my carbon fiber projects, never thought of using it for welding.
Many uses for it. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for sharing! I always struggle with stainless as magnets don't work, this will work great!
Very useful stuff. Thanks for watching!
I've still to find any magnets that work on aluminium. I'll need to use tape for now.
That is very cool , Thank you .
Thanks for watching!

I've set PET on fire before, but I was really cooking it haha.

Right on.

Thanks for the tip and another great show.
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
i could use this tape for holding the ends of fuel tanks on while i get them tacked.
awesome!!
Many many uses for sure. Thanks for watching!
Well, damn. I've had a couple of rolls of this from my carbon fiber experiments sitting on the shelf for 2+ years and never thought to use it for this. Woulda saved me throwing tape across the shop a time or two. Sub'd
Haha, that sudden reality! Thanks for the sub!
Super informative. Had no idea this existed. Thanks.

Kapton tape just takes more temp which is nice but its harder for me to source in the size I need. Thanks for watching!
just perfect, Thanks.
You're welcome.
Excellent tip! I lost a hand in Iraq, will most definitely be getting a couple rolls!
11Bravo2P It will definitely help! I'm out of stock right now but should have my replenishment order early next month.
Brilliant man! I've always used masking tape, out with the old in with the new good tip man always good shit coming from this channel I love learning new things you're the man
Thanks!
just got some, thanks
Awesome!
Thanks! Great tips!!
Thanks for watching!
awesome tip man!
Thanks!
Awsome vid. Wish you would of put the ez zone tape against the others.
brilliant, ever day is a school day
Thank you!
Good idea
Thanks for watching!
The Fabrication Series hey you give me great ideas and for other car stuff I hit up Eric the car guy
hey man love the videos! it would be cool if you could make a video explaining how you started up your fab shop and all the stuff you'll need to do so.
This is an extremely common request and I will be getting into it in the future. Thanks for watching!
The Fabrication Series awesome thanks man!
residue is your enemy with ally welding

Nice!
Thanks!
Can you cut the bottle of colapette and connect it to each other? Is it possible if I use a soldering iron?
if i got the chance to wish myself an extra body part, it wouldn't be a third hand...
What width PET tape do you use? And where do you buy yours from?
Not only have I wished for three hands but sometimes wished for elbows in the middle of my forearms....
If there is a powder coater near you, they use the same stuff to mask things that they don't want powder on.
Yup.
i use this tape in powdercoating
Hi for welding fab could I youse paynting tape?
I don't ever use tape or have someone hold something for me to get it tacked, when your good enough you can speed tack aluminum quick
Then you're not the demographic this video was intended for.
Thanks for watching anyway!
Is PET the same stuff they use in fiberglassing? Looks like the stuff they use that fiberglass doesn't stick to
Most likely. PET is used in many industries.
Bottles, mostly
I had to use the foil tape to purge tube before not the greatest smell.
It smells awful haha. I only bought the roll to shoot this episode. I can't stand the stuff.

Most "affordable or cheap" products (such as Kapton tape) are not even close to their so-called ratings.
Where is the Cheapest place to buy the pet tape?
this looks like a good deal

Just do a quick Google search and filter it for the least expensive listing.
