- Scotty Moore was one of the first guitarists to bring rock & roll to light while playing with Elvis Presley. His guitar work on songs like Mystery Train and Heartbreak Hotel were influences to many of the great rock guitarists who came after him, along with millions of others through the years.. Here is a short documentary on his life and career.

Scotty Moore was my guitar hero back in the '50s in Miami when I was a teenager. I LOVED all those old rockabilly songs. Elvis, Gene Vincent , Carl Perkins , all those guys
Scotty created Elvis's sound that lasted through out Elvis preforming life
Scotty made his mark in the music world that will never be erased.RIP SCOTTY.
In 2013 mybwife and i visited Graceland. My biggest thrill was seeing Scotty Moore being interviewed by George Klien.
I played some shows with Pete Pritchard who played Bass with Scotty. He had some wonderful stories about him. A true legend! R.I.P Mr Moore.
One of the OG guitar gods along with Chuck Berry and Carl Perkins!! Cheers Doc!!
I realized I was getting old when I was shooting the bull with some guitar pickers in the mid 90's. I mentioned playing something 'like Scotty Moore' and they said. "Who's Scotty Moore?" sigh.
Those people you banged the planks with were'nt Guitaristd , they were "posing" for their own vanity. Scotty was a "Thinker" an engineer of " Atmospheres".
Scotty Moore's solo on That's All Right Mama was one of the first guitar solos I learned. That was about 1978 when I was 16 and I had listened to tons of hard rock music from the 60's and 70's My gut told me to learn it and play it.
i always loved scotty's playing, all three of them changed music forever,
I grew up primarily a metal guitar player, then graduated to other genres. Not so much Elvis. But as a guitar player, I appreciate the fact that this guy is phenomenal and deserves all the credit he gets.
Brilliant Documentary!! Thanks! The World of Music, even today still, owes a lot to Men called Sam, Scotty and of course Elvis.
You're welcome. Well said!
The beginning of rock and roll .
Appreciate much , your work .
👍
Many thanks! Appreciate your support!!!
Nice job! Scotty is one of the greats that started it all.
Thanks!
I grew up hearing Elvis because of my older brother and sister. Watched him on Ed Sullivan when they wouldn't show him below the waist! 🤣 Scotty was always there being the man on that gorgeous L-5. Thanks for this RD! Your videos always make my day!
Same here. I had two older sisters and one older brother. You're welcome and Thanks Ferd for your support!
River Docs, I have always been a huge Scotty Moore fan. Grew up on Elvis and love the guitar runs and licks in the music. Thank you for this. It made my day. Cheers.
You're very welcome Charles. I appreciate it!
I still love Scotty Moore's playing.
r.i.p. scotty! great doc about a great guitarist. thank you
You're welcome!
That was one of my favorite docs yet. Great details about his Gibson and relationship with the Col. Well done as usual sir. Keep it up!! Thank you
You're welcome!! Glad you enjoyed it.
I had no idea Scotty Moore was Keith Richard's inspiration.
Great video!
Take any Elvis recording and put any other guitarist in Scotty's place.....I feel Elvis and Scotty worked off each other....there was no one like Scotty on any continent....Way ahead of his time
Top quality mini documentary. This deserves many more views.
Thanks. Appreciate that!
There was a radio interview with Scotty decades ago,he saided that hound dog was ancient psychedelic, his words for sixty rock guitarist borrowed from his playing! Listen to Scotty leads on heart break hotel jazzy! To me Scotty took from big band era with those Gibson guitars revise playing them! Plus Scotty had a custom kick ass amplifier built-in Cairo Illinois that gave him studio sound on stage! Pioneer of rock guitar,Doc!
Very Cool, Thankyou. Scotty Moore has been a huge inspiration to my Love of playing Guitar. He will always be a favorite. All the Best. Cheers
Beautiful little documentary. I had heard that Scotty was given some farmland from his father and that he worked that land for a year. The monies he saved during that year he used to purchase his blonde L5. The L5 not only sounded incredible playing with Elvis but it is still considered the holy grail jazz box that Wes Montgomery also played. I would have loved to hear Scotty play those songs live or be a fly on the wall during those early recording sessions.
Thanks. Glad ya enjoyed it. Appreciate you sharing the story about the L5!
I was a huge Elvis fan starting in the 50s as a child. I remember grabbing a broom and imitating EP by strumming the broom bristles and wiggling my legs.
My mom (who adored Elvis) and my grandmother would just laugh so much at my EP impressions.
When the Beatles showed up in the 1964/65 years I hated them.
Two reasons: 1- They had (at the time) replaced Elvis musically (until he began his comeback)
And 2: I was in the 8th grade and really into girls and I hated the fact that girls were into the mop tops instead of Elvis and more importantly (in my young mind) me!
Over the years I’ve come to appreciate The Beatles (especially their early music) and still enjoy Elvis as well!
Their can be no doubt that Scotty Moore, Bill Black, James Burton and Elvis were historically important to Rock N Roll!
I’ve always felt that the Eastern European ilegal immigrant going by the phony name of Colonel Tom Parker was a real villain that cheated Elvis and anyone else he could cheat!
One of the best of the best. Thanks
You're welcome Eric.
Nice story on scotty Moore he was a pioneer that’s for sure .
Thanks!
Legend
Good one Doc,,Loved It .Take care and we'll leave the bell on.
Thank you kindly Dennis!!
Alvin Lee in Tennessee featured Scotty and other Elvis alums. Awesome "album".
Lovely documentary as every one you make. I remember communicating with Scotty’s secretary back in the late ‘90’s and buying a record from their business Sweetfish Records called All The King’s Men. Scotty was active again and working with DJ Fontana, Paul Burlison and Reggie Young amongst other greats.
Thanks. Appreciate it!
truth spoken
FASCINATING
RIP Homeboy Scotty
Nice little film on the guitar legend. Scotty' playing has some Travis and Atkins influence.
I got got into a argument over Elvis and Scotty. A guy I know ( who wasn't a guitar player) trying to tell me about the lead guitar that Elvis played on early records. In the end after some comments from another friend and guitar player he understood. But made us admit that the man (Elvis) could dance. Friendship saved and we still enjoy music over a beer to this day.
Without those guitar solos on those early Elvis Presley / Sun Records recordings from mister SCOTTY MOORE - How great would those songs have been ?
This is a lovely tribute to a great musician. Thanks.
That first bunch of records compiled into The Sun Sessions has so much Guitar Playing on it it's unreal. And Elvis Playing such solid Rhythm, all those songs are almost one offs', they just chose a Song played it a few times and decided whether to record or not. Most of what Scotty is Playing is Improve. Highly recommend it.
Excellent video. Nobody covers more (Moore) in 12 minutes
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it!

scotty moore had a unique sound. he was there for early days of elvis.
Very interesting video!
Thanks for visiting
Good video
Thanks.
It would have been nice if Scotty and the boys were more relevant in that fantasy piece by Luhrmann🙄
You going live Friday night?
No. But I am planning on starting back the lives second week of November. Thing is I will probably have to do them on a weekday night. Either a Tuesday or Wednesday night as Friday night /Weekends just won't fit into my schedule anymore. So keep an eye out around 7-8 of November for them to start up again. Thanks
Scotty played Merl Travis style.
About 1/3 of the time, yes. But he also played Chet Atkins style and . . . I recommend "The Guitars of Elvis" by Wolf Marshall, which has an included CD. He explains all the Scotty Moore runs, licks, solos, and backings. With tabulatures!
Only elvis fan answer this who is better scotty moore or james burton
Your title is wrong....Les Paul was the player who put jazz,r&b, and country guitar together first...Scottie, as such, was simply doing his Les Paul impression.....
Les Paul didn't bring it to rock & roll which is what this video is all about. He stayed in jazz, r&b, and country. So no my title isn't wrong. You are.
Did you forget to mention Merle Travis, or did I miss something?
Anybody from Kentucky or Tennessee knows Merle was the king of thumb picking.
No, not finger picking. It was called thumb picking.
Why would I mention Merle Travis in a video about Scotty Moore?? I don't get where you are coming from? This was about the beginning of rock & roll..not thumb picking.
Sister Rosetta Tharpe smoked all of those dudes, including Scotty Moore.
