UK is country of bans and restrictions. Just ban a venue from your list. Let them financially suffer.

thanks big feller..that has explained the diameter verses lb breaking strain thing, i always get the scales out and stretch then break the line just to see how far out the adverts are. But, a general question, just how much force are carp capable of pulling against your tackle? i know on a pole with double elastics a 20 plus carp (or cats are worse) on 12meters the force they apply on you when they take makes yu sweat lol (12 meter of leverage n all..).

The takeaway most people aren't getting is this; Breaking strain is all over the place. Diameter is much more reliable as most mono .37 lines will all break at the same amount regardless of the advertised breaking strain. The advertised breaking strain is utterly pointless as each manufacturer has different safety margins, Korda for example will have touchdown 15lb .40 lines breaking at low 20lb. Whereas some lesser-known brands will even have their lines breaking before said breaking strain.
This is why every distance caster worth their salt tells you to ignore the breaking strain. Because the diameter is universal, whereas breaking strain completely depends on what safety margin (or lack of) said manufacturer is willing to chance.

Christopher Bingle most lines break higher than their rating. Problem is ppl overload for distance casting. Many ppl have brought in much bigger fish than they thought possible on smaller lines.

Even 4oz let alone 5oz with 0.35 line is dangerous for any more than just an overhead lob.
Shouldnt be going by diameter, should be going by breaking strain.
As you said, some 15lb lines can be 0.38 or 0.40. Therefore 0.35mm of that line isnt going to be 15lb is it!!
Only way to be casting safely is using 10lb for every 1oz of weight cast.

Bet that guy was a bouncer. I bet he even asks the carp for ID before they're allowed in his net. No under 18's allowed
