Some of the games here aren't RPG games per say being either Metroidvanias (Salt, Bloodstained, Astlibra), Strategy (Songs of Conquest, Xenonaughts) or Survival-Crafting games (Terraria, Zomboid). Other games worth a mention imho are: The Banner Saga, Outward, Tower of Time, Seven: Enhanced Edition, Vagrus: The Riven Realms, Sea of Stars, Cosmic Star Heroine, Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark, Banner of the Maid, Rise of the Third Power, Chronicon, Nobody Saves the World, Ghostlore, Adore, Din's Legacy, Moonlighter, Gedonia, StarCrawlers, Vaporum Operencia: The Stolen Sun, Black Book, Masquerada: Songs and Shadows, Encased, Gamedec, Black Geyser: Couriers of Darkness, Dead State, Iron Danger.
The best indie RPG is also the best RPG of all time. Unfortunately many people will never give it the chance it deserves, as it's completely 2d, but entirely free. It's called Cataclysm(DarkDaysAhead/Bright Nights).
You do realize that every single one of these games are classified as an RPG even cyberpunk 2077 is classified as an RPG even borderlands has RPG elements For me I have my own personal classification I just consider anything that's an RPG where you can gain loot and focus on mainly melee combat like dragons dogma but every single one of these games he has mentioned in this video is classified as having RPG elements This is the definition of RPG A role-playing game (RPG) is a game in which each participant assumes the role of a character that can interact within the game's imaginary world So by that definition it is very vague on what can and cannot be a RPG
Oi Joel!! Translating: Hi Joel!! Several interesting games on today's list (Lunacid, CrossCode, Astlibra and WitchSpring) I didn't really even know about. These are pleasant surprises!! I ended up adding some of your recommendations to my list. Excellent work my friend, big hug!!
Is Horizon's Gate on here? Edit: Oh, it isn't. Give it a try, it is 50% off right now and *genuinely* is the best non-remake RPG I have played in years. Its gameplay is super nuanced and amazing, and it has a lot of cool hidden mechanics that are carried over from the games before it (Voidspire Tactics and Alvora Tactics) like how you can modify and create traversable terrain in many ways. Please look into it.
I agree on this one. The amount of polish Horizon's Gate has is just incredible. Dude even keeps updating it with fixes, balancing and whatnot! I specially love the small touch of the battle music. How the "combat introduction theme" varies and can match any of the actual combat soundtracks. It was a delight that kept the game fresh and exciting up until the end for me! And I rarely finish games.
@@AzzRushman he also has a new on in the works. I loved voidspire and alvora tactics aswell. It's called kingsvein and im so hyped. I'm convinced ill buy every game he makes.
I hated the controls of CrossCode so much that I had to stop playing after a few hours. It’s basically a twin stick shooter and since I’m an RPG guy, I don’t play twin stick shooters.
You just recommend the same game over and over. You obviously like retro dumb graphics games that remind you of your childhood. You just choose games like that over and over. Make a more varied list next time. This one is a waste of time.

They don't know what an RPG is. Cut them some slack
@@standowner6979 true, but i watch the video in search on a new rpg to do, and a lot of game he talk about was indeed great game, but not RPG x)
If you dont know, there are also strategy rpg, survival rpg, farming/building rpg , Metroidvania rpg, rougelike rpg, turn based rpg, e.t.c.
Those games are classified as RPGs Steven cyberpunk 2077 is classified as an RPG
The best indie RPG is also the best RPG of all time. Unfortunately many people will never give it the chance it deserves, as it's completely 2d, but entirely free. It's called Cataclysm(DarkDaysAhead/Bright Nights).

I approve of this list, I can tell you're a man of culture.
Banner Saga is AMAZING too! For those who never heard about, i recomend a lot!
You should add Cataclysm Dark Days Ahead to this list. Kenshi is on this list, so CDDA should be right up your alley.
Of all these games I had to seek out the un-named ending gameplay and download THAT one. XD
please man... make a list of all the RTWP rpgs you know of
did ya try "Wander Hero" ?
its a good RPG with very "unique" gameplay mechanics :3
Shout out to battle brothers 🤛
There’s a fun indie game called Airoheart that every 2D Zelda fan should play.
…And who’s not a 2D Zelda fan, right?

Dave the diver IS NOT AN INDIE GAME
I hated the controls of CrossCode so much that I had to stop playing after a few hours.
It’s basically a twin stick shooter and since I’m an RPG guy, I don’t play twin stick shooters.
But as we all should know by now, Dave the Diver is not an indie game 😅
Evoland 1&2 not even in the list. wtf did u play dude 😂
@Joel pls play these two games, or at least the 2nd game. I swear to god you will love it.
