I think as a kid I definitely would've wanted the modern doll because I was always very picky about things being movie accurate, and I think the extra articulation would make her much more fun to play with. Now though I think the calypso Ariel would make a much more interesting collection piece. I ADORE that outfit.
The 1997 dolls are treasure! Best line ever for Ariel. And I loved the idea of comparing old and new ones. I would love to see Pocahontas and Mulan also.
Tyco Ariel's are great too. They are very cute and I love the fashions of the dolls from the late 80's/early 90's. The first Ariel you showed is so pretty and fun. I agree I wish Disney would do more fun things with the princess dolls
Princess Mermaid Ariel is my all time favorite! Had her as a kid too and I loved changing her fins into a dress. Also my favorite face mold from the time.
I recently found again my Calypso Ariel that I got as a kid for Christmas and restored her hair back to old luscious beauty. It was so nice to see her in her original package again. Bringing back memories. Thanks for that. Greetings from Germany.

I am obsessed with Ariel so I have a lot of Ariel dolls. My favorite ever is the early 90’s doll. She’s supposed to be 16yo, so that doll captures perfectly the age and sweetness of Ariel.
Tyco Ariel dolls are absolutely the best! The face is so cute and movie accurate and her fashions are incredible and so creative. Beautiful Hair Calypso has a special place in my heart as she’s first Ariel I ever had!
Tyco vas so cute ❤️ the problem was the legs quality. And the Eric from Tyco I like him. I have bride and groom from my childhood. I think their were my first "Barbie sized" dolls ever
Also keep in mind Ariel was only 15 in the movie so it would make sense she has a Skipper body. Also Joey I own over 30 Tyco Ariels in my collection and they are quite solid quality, don’t be afraid with playing with her.

I just noticed that Mattel's Ariel face mold from 1997 dolls is the same as early Mattel's Tangled Rapunzel dolls :O As for my fav... Well, it's difficult! I love the long length doll in Tyco Ariel do. But i also love the hair color skin tone and clothes from Disney... Aaaaah I'm going with both lol
I actually really envy kids in the early 90s who got to play with the later Ariel Tyco dolls because they are so interesting and beautiful and full of those bright happy colors and all these accessories and I love how every doll from back then has its own story and a different outfit to match the occasion.I know I would be ecstatic as a kid if I had these dolls. Nowadays most Ariel dolls have close to 0 clothing because everything is molded on and they usually come with just a hairbrush so yea I believe that 90s Tyco dolls are underappreciated gems!

Great video! Enjoy the Tyco Ariel guilt free, I think that if a leg falls off, it's really just an inevitable fate. A leg fell off both my Arista and deluxe Ariel back when they were brand new. The fin can hold it in place, it's not really noticeable.
I remember the original Ariel dolls and having conversations with friends about how she has changed over the years. Great video! Also, what about Disney dolls that were made by Mattel, then Hasbro got the license, and how much those changed? My friend hated what changes Hasbro had done and wouldn't buy those versions lol

The Disneystore used to change the Patern and Fabrics of Ariels Tail every Year or other Year. The curend Design is out a while now. I don´t know why. But you can still buy some of the older Tails from China (Aliexpress, eBay...). There was one Tail in a Spandex/Lycra like Fabric which was great to take into the Bathtub. No Glitter and things. Now they all ouse ths fake satin that can not get wet and also the Glitter would wash off. "My Sister" had a 1997 Ariel from Mattel which was great. only Downside was that the green Color of the Tail would rub off and turn the turn it in a dull silver Color. She also had flat feet because of the Teen Skipper Body but better than the old Skipper Body from Tyco. Im so mad that the Disneystore doesn´t make a Ariel with a solid Tail. I cross my fingers for the Live Action Movie. But since Cruella and Mulan each only got Collector Dolls and no Playline Doll my hopes are not high. And from Hasbro im a little bit afraid what they will come up with. They allread ruin the classic Ariel and other Disney Princess.

I love this series. For me Tyco Ariel dolls are very special and cute, they had a lot of details and quite good quality, also they made tons of them with different outfits, themes, different skin tones like the Calypso ones, long haired dolls, dolls with small toys, dolls from the TV series like the one with Spot the whale or with the two mer-babies, a doll of Pearl... Wish they'd made a doll for Gabriella and Urchin too... Mattel Ariels are the best, amazing quality, movie accurate facesculpts, beautiful dresses too, and Disney Store has pretty good faceculpts too, but it has lost a lot of charm from the previous dolls, the quality is cheap very basic, the heads are quite big, the bodies don't look very proportionate, the arms and legs are too thin with ugly articulations, but still beautiful and the best we can have nowadays, because Hasbro dolls are awful especially in the last two years... I wish Disney Store would put more effort and care and quality in their classic playline dolls even if that would need rising the price a little.

90s Ariel is giving me some Totally Hair Barbie vibes, lol. In terms of articulation, the Disney store doll wins hands down, but I think I like the 90s version a little more as far as the face and hair (like you said, Ariel needs her fringe).

I had one which was more movie accurate (green fish tail, purple sea shells) and I loved that very much, though you're right, the disproportions between Ariel and Eric are sad, Tyco should have made Ariel bigger/larger. Nevertheless, the Tyco tails, especially the fins, are much more beautiful then later ones. I think, the Tyco Ariel dolls are fine to play her life under the sea. The Tyco Eric was handsome in my opinion. When I first saw the commercial of the 1997 Mattel Ariel, I thought, she looks so much more like Ariel than my Tyco doll does (grass always greener etc), but when I bought her many years later on eBay, I was disappointed: the Face is surely pretty, but somehow also out of proportions ... No, I'm a huge fan of the Tyco Ariel, but for the human & grown up Ariel, I'd rather use the Jewel Hair Mermaid Midge 😂
Something I appreciate about the older Mattel dolls, is you can put Barbie fashions on them since they shared a body type with '90's Barbie. Face sculpt wise though, I vastly prefer the Disney Store because one look at the face and your brain says 'hey, this is the movie brought to life'. It was a fun video and I would love to see you cover other princesses in a 'Then and Now' style. Perhaps Esmeralda since this year is the anniversary of Hunchback?

I today cleaned my old Ariel doll from 1997. I was so mad at myself that I cut her hair shorter and also her fringe! I lost half of her pink dress and I cut her purple tail. Too bad I cannot find the outfit anywhere to buy 🙁. OMG!!!! THIS IS HER 7:21!!! Oh, how much memories have been woken up! My mom is still angry that I cut her hair 🤣

Comparing your fave which seems to be a lot of peoples fave Ariel doll to the new one would be interesting. Is that one everyones fave cause of her crown? I prefer sea pearl Ariel's tail and fin, the iridescent shine is cool. I prefer Disney stores hair and face, though.

Never liked Mattel`s Ariel head sculpts. I always wondered why they didn`t used Barbie Superstar facemold for Ariel? I think its a perfect choice. For me Tyco`s Ariel is the best, face is so cute! But yeah she`s too young. Ariel is my favorite princess and still no perfect doll for me

Comparing your fave which seems to be a lot of peoples fave Ariel doll to the new one would be interesting. Is that one everyones fave cause of her crown? I prefer sea pearl Ariel's tail and fin, the iridescent shine is cool. I prefer Disney stores hair and face, though.
I like the newer doll, I think she's really pretty but i'm not a fan of the cheap fabric that's been used though. This is really interesting, hope you make more vids like this one.

Never liked Mattel`s Ariel head sculpts. I always wondered why they didn`t used Barbie Superstar facemold for Ariel? I think its a perfect choice. For me Tyco`s Ariel is the best, face is so cute! But yeah she`s too young. Ariel is my favorite princess and still no perfect doll for me
