  • Demeter is a prominent figure in Greek mythology, revered as the goddess of the earth and the guardian of all crops and vegetation. Her blessings ensure the abundance and fertility of the land, allowing crops to flourish and all living beings to thrive. In Roman mythology, she is also known by the name Ceres.
Demeter is the mother of Persephone, a beautiful daughter who one day mysteriously disappears. In her desperate search for her beloved daughter, Demeter traverses the earth, shedding tears of longing. Her grief is intertwined with the desolation of the earth itself.
With the help of Hermes, Demeter discovers that Persephone has been abducted to the underworld by Hades. Despite her anger and sorrow, Demeter eventually negotiates with Hades to retrieve Persephone. However, Persephone is bound to spend part of her life in the underworld, alternating between the surface world and the realm of the dead. This arrangement results in the earth losing its fertility and becoming barren due to Demeter's sorrow and Persephone's absence, a fate that remains an integral part of their destinies.
