I read 'soldier Boy' decades ago....until now I never but two and two together that this was the same author of 'Killer Angels'. Now I have to go find it!
Oh my that illustrated edition of Stone's The Agony and The Ecstasy is GLORIOUS! I didn't even know something like that existed... Great. Now I'll be forever on the look-out for it, highly doubt it'll appear in my neck of the woods of Australia but a girl's gotta dream 🤞✨
The only version of The Agony and the Ecstasy I have is the Readers Digest condensed books volume 46 which also has Steinbeck's The Winter of Our Discontent, A Lodging for the Emperor, The Making of the President and Goodbye Mr Chips. It's one of the better selections they published
@@stretmediq ooo thanks for the heads up! But I can’t help but be drawn to the stunning illustrations in Steve’s new edition. The ability to read about art and then be able to see it on the next page if just too good of an opportunity to pass up! There’s nothing more distracting than reading a passage in a book and having to pick up your phone to google it.
Your volume by Guglielmo Ferrero was a real find. I've been looking for the series for ages, and only have volumes I and III so far. Whole sets are very expensive in English. I'll keep on searching though because they are, as you say, great reads and older history is my sweet tooth.
An original Pogo book is a delightful find. I have that particular book. I started collecting Pogo as a teenager, and I still have my cherished editions of _G.O. Fizzicle Pogo, Prehysterical Pogo (In Pandemonia), The Pogo Poop Book, Pogo Puce Stamp Catalog, Impollutable Pogo,_ and quite a few more.
I was really overdue for some good nautical reading, so thanks for drawing my attention to H. M. S. Marlborough Will Enter Harbor! I just borrowed it on Internet Archive!. Yesss!
This might be a long comment. I tend to add to my comment as I watch videos like this. I think I have that Lin Carter book. I might read it for GarbAugust as well. I love The Boat of a Million Years. MY first copy was a trade paperback. I sold it and regretted it instantly. So I went out and picked up a first edition hardcover. It was my introduction to Poul Anderson. Finding a book I want with a plastic cover already on the dust jacket brings me so much joy. It also saves me time and the cost of a jacket cover. Great book haul!
Stan Lee kindly signed my copy of ‘Origins of Marvel Comics’ on his one and only visit to Melbourne. For some reason I stopped buying the series and only got back on board for ‘Marvel’s Greatest Battles’. 🤷♂️
If you want to do a history or historical fiction event how about something like Ancient April or something like that if that month isn't taken already 🤔
Steve, you really seem to want all the authors you talk about to be well and truly dead, so I always Wikipedia the first one, just to see, and Spider Robinson is still alive and kicking.
That Godsfire cover is amazing. This is your best haul ever!
A 2 hour seminar on how to identify Marvel artists from the golden age? Yes please!
That's a fantastic haul of books by authors who are almost certainly still alive, if only because you said they are probably dead.

I’ve read Cruel Sea two years ago because it’s my grandpa’s favourite book and it was fantastic. I’m happy to see you’re recommending his other work.

Werebeasts of Hell looks great!! 😆

I’m pretty sure Spider Robinson is still alive. He had a heart attack 10 years ago which effectively ended his writing career.
Graham Diamond is also still among the living.
Now that's a bookhaul!

Is Graham Diamond good? The haven trilogy has been lingering in the back of my mind, but might be a hustle to track down…
Hakluyt was more a collector and editor than writer...
"Hakluyt;s Voyages" is an important source of data for the pre-Jamestown settlements...
Oh my god did you say all these paperbacks were a dollar?! A DOLLAR?!?!
We're supposed to believe that you won't make it to the Brattle til April?? Are you being teleported to South America or somewhere?
Hah! Well, I can dream, can't I?
