Loved this passage. Lots of excellent sailing footage. Must have been something of a relief entering Minerva Reef though. I've never experienced visiting an Atoll before, let alone two submerged ones! It certainly looks like a strange and surprising, mid-ocean phenomenon. And more excellent original music with sweet blues harp and harmonies ('Million Miles'). Love your work, guys. Thanks for sharing. Cheers, David.

Thank you, David. Your lovely comments always make our day. Yes entering Minerva Relief was such a welcome respite after a pretty tough crossing. Definitely a surprising phenomenon and super grateful for modern navigation equipment and GPS. Very happy, too, that you enjoyed Million Miles. Next week you’ll see us in beautiful Tonga 🇹🇴 Sam is recording an original for that episode as I write this 😊⛵️

Minerva is a sweet spot, when we were there the remains of the "Swimming Pool" from the Republic of Minerva era were nearby the Navigation Marker. That was quite a few years ago now so both of these features might have disappeared. The Republic of Minerva was a micronation consisting of the Minerva Reefs. It was one of the few modern attempts at creating a sovereign micronation on the reclaimed land of an artificial island in 1972. The architect was Las Vegas real estate millionaire and political activist Michael Oliver, it all ended in tears I guess.

That is very interesting! Thank you so much for sharing as we had no idea of the history of Minerva as a micro nation. Such an ambitious project. Not sure I’d want to live out there full time despite it being an amazing place to visit. Really appreciate you taking the time to share this and for watching our channel 😊⛵️

Not suprised at the shackle at the top of the mast, typical stainless shackle. Always have a good selection of galv shackles on board to replace the stainless ones that will fail!

@danielhicks7141 very sound advice. Thank you 🙏

@SailingNorla A good friend of mine sailed a small square rigger from New Zealand up to Japan, by the time they got to Japan all the stainless shackles had been replaced by galv. Had the galv ones not been on-board, they wouldn't have had a rig.

@danielhicks7141 that’s a very scary thought. Luckily your friends were prepared. That is super helpful advice. Really appreciate you sharing this with us 🙏
