When clicking on the extrude button I have nothing. Just an empty scene. I'm sure I correctly repeated all the steps from the start twice.

If we want the exact effect on another text so can we just Chnage the text so automatically everything will be changed?

Why did nothing seem to change when you enabled Shadows @8:32 ,sir?

Good catch, it is because I actually didn't add any physical lights in the scene, so the shadows would be cast from actual lights, as opposed to the lighting presets. But I still wanted to outline for the full render process for turning all the settings decently up.

Depends largely on the type of project and timeline. I'd always love to do everything in C4D but a lot of times the short deadlines don't allow it. E3D is a great tool for quick projects that do need 3D.

After Effects is not a 3D program. It has minimal 3D capabilities mostly due to 3rd party integrated software like Video Copilot's Element 3D (separate price) and Cinema 4D Lite (integrated). As Sean said, E3D is great for quick tasks right within AE (assuming you have the plugin). However, it's just a plugin with limitations.
I would suggest learning Cinema 4D as it's an industry standard for true 3D if you are indeed interested in advanced motion graphics. If not, and you just want to incorporate basic 3D titles or the like, I would suggest learning Element within AE, and/or visiting Video Copilot and Maxon to get more info.
