Traffic lights are placed on the near-side for several reasons: the placement forces drivers to actually stop at the stop line and not block pedestrian crossings, in addition it helps draw driver attention to where where they have to yield to people walking and cycling when turning. If you find yourself struggling to view the lights, just stop a few feet sooner.
The "problem" with fairy tales is that Mr. Walt Disnep skewed our expectation to what a fairy tale is. Modern fairy tales all have a happy ending where they lived happily ever after. Classical fairy tales as collected and written down (but not invented by) the Grimm brothers were life lesson and warnings about the dangers of the world (don't wander off alone into the forest, etc.) The original mermaid in Hans Christian Andersen (a Dane) basically dies at the end of the story.

The pumpkin festival in Ludwigsburg changes the theme every year. I can remember being there recently prior to 2018 when the theme was various sports.

After driving in the US and Germany I usually prefer the US version of traffic lights but there are a few problems: If you turn left, you drive thru the red lights for the other direction. In Germany, you never drive thru red lights, you always have to stop if a red light is in front of you. If you have a crossing other than 90° and you have more than 4 Roads it gets hard to see which light is for what direction. In Germany it's obvious because the light defines who is allowed to enter the crossing at the point where they have to stop.
@@MrJust2times No it is room. You are supposed to drive up to the white line in front of the traffic light. I know a few traffic lights where you can wait endlessly when you do not drive up to the white line. You are simply not detected by the induction loop in the road.
@@nielsdebakker3283 If they cant see the light they are way too close. Thats what i was saying. At least in my world ^^ An no you really dont need to hug the white line. And if, it is not right. All sensors are a good meter behind the line. I mean its a coil under the first layer of the street. It detects your car not just stright up in a line. So you dont even need to drive over it with you whole car.
To a traditional german sozialisation belongs a fairytaillandTRAUMA :) These figures and puppets are so spooky and on top their creepy voices ... A good nightmare foundation for very child.
Kind of sad that I missed you visiting my hometown, maybe you'll get the chance to visit Ludwigsburg once more, especially in the summer there is a lot (!) more to experience. If you ever get the chance to stop by once more contact me, I would be happy to show you around :)
Putting traffic lights on the opposite site of crossings only really works for rectangular crossings. But Germany has so many crossings with more than four roads meeting or at very weird angles, that in many cases, it would not be clear for which road the traffic lights at the opposite side of the crossings are.
I like sweet-sour pumpkin so much. My wife allowed me to buy two pumpkins from a local farmer, not more. There I found "it". The farmer and I had to roll it onto a blanket and lift it into my car ( 'Citroen C3) by grabbing the four corners of the blanket. My car sreamed with pain when we lowered the pumpkin into its back. My wife was angry with me, I do not know why. If anyone is interested in our recipe for sweet-sour pumpkin please feel free to ask. In a nutshell: Sugar, water, vinegar, ginger, other spices, two days of work and sterile jars is all you need.

the traffic lights are on the near side because there is less confusion if the streets aren't at perfect 90° which there are a lot of in germany

They often ended pretty badly as a warning for the children.

If you have a crossing other than 90° and you have more than 4 Roads it gets hard to see which light is for what direction. In Germany it's obvious because the light defines who is allowed to enter the crossing at the point where they have to stop.
@@Ulrich.Bierwisch Yes :)
At least in my world ^^
An no you really dont need to hug the white line. And if, it is not right. All sensors are a good meter behind the line.
I mean its a coil under the first layer of the street. It detects your car not just stright up in a line.
So you dont even need to drive over it with you whole car.
You should go around Halloween to the Europa Park in Rust. Gorgeous.
The bloody traffic lights. Honestly.
I love the few seconds, twice?, of drone footage. How do you do it? Magical powers…
Nice to see, that nothing changed in "Blühendes Barock" since I was there the last time - 20 years ago :-D
Massive secret is that the Christmasmarket in Ludwigsburg is out of this world! In my opinion one of the best in Germany!
I live in Ludwigsburg lol. Didnt expect you to go there
Putting traffic lights on the opposite site of crossings only really works for rectangular crossings. But Germany has so many crossings with more than four roads meeting or at very weird angles, that in many cases, it would not be clear for which road the traffic lights at the opposite side of the crossings are.
In the UK we have the traffic lights on the near side AND the far side. Don't tell me this is actually something we do better than the Germans!
You are. But also you are still using the wrong side of the road, though. :D
@@MHG790 But as long as we all stay on the wrong side it works! 😂
Pumpkins aren't "berries", they belong to the squash family though. LOL
It's probably the "two days of work" that got her angry. But enjoying it over the winter should make her feel better.
@@ericminch Why should she be angry about her husband spending two days in the kitchen?
