For twenty years I've sang this song in my head not knowing the name of this song. Glad I discovered this on RUclips.
You not the only one but I knew the name of the song.
Me too....but longer
Bro same wtf
LMFAOOOO why did they have us singing this in school 😂😂
Did you go to old town San Diego field trip in 4th grade too?? lol
I'm a full blooded Navajo and this song hits me so hard because it reminds me of my people and the legacy of my people that i have to carry. I will not let my people down. That's my mission, forever.
I am not Navajo, but I grew up all my life in Tuba City, AZ, since I was 6 months, until high school graduation and a little beyond. My parents have taught there for over 45 years. I heard this song multiple times, and it hits home, too. I remember it clearly. You will make your people proud. You are from a powerful people. Always remember who you are. I can tell in your passion in your message. Always remember how beautiful it is to be a Dine.
Oh my goodness!!!!! Elementary school days!!!! Mr. Eberly my music teacher had us sing this ALOT! I always loved it!
Cheyanne Woodard yes in my elementary school days in Hawaii my kindergarten teacher would play this song and we would do a sign language i miss Hawaii

We used to do this in elementary, our teacher was white, but he also was half native, got an education and came home to teach us. He would tell me stories and hand language. He will be missed, many teachers have passed away that were always there teaching. Making sure we understood every word. I miss them aho......

Looks like everyone has had this in their early years of education...I did too...such a beautiful song as I remember it. Thx to great music from BYU for posting it. 5/5
My 5th grade teacher taught us this song. At the time, it was just a song about a father and son, but now, after 12 years and growing up, it makes me tear up. It's a father telling his son that he can be the one who brings the change and makes the world better for himself and his people. Like a duty, a handing of the torch, from elder to young. I still think about it every now and then, powerful message. Thank you Ms. Torres.
I love this song. It brings back so many memories. I remember singing it about 14 or 15 years ago in elementary school.
Bro same
I love that song is so beautiful it made me cry
We sing this at school it is my favorite song
Me laying in bed thinking about my elementary music teacher and singing this song! Nothing can take away the influence of a good teacher . Pregnant for the first time at 42 and this will definitely be on my baby play list!!
I sang this song in my fifth grade graduation and I still remember it today. Beautiful.
Man.. as a Tongan, this speaks to me. We used to sing it in Elementary school but now as a grown man, having a better knowledge of my ancestors and where they come from, this brings a great sense of honor, pride and responsibility upon me and I gladly carry it. My ancestors will be proud of me. God bless and thanks for sharing!!!
I used to listen to this back in my Boarding School days at Tuba City. I remember my sister singing this coming home from the dorms. most of the girls were singing it all the time. it was like a theme for boarding school. It brings back lots of memories of my youth. awww. *
sniff*
I sang this song to my sons when they were growing up.
Support your kids, pay attention, listen. Blessings for all. ❤️
Love you B-Boys. So proud to be your mom. Keep climbing my sons. 🌽
Over 10 years ago the 'Living Legends' cast and crew came to New Zealand and performed this amazing collection of indigenous dances to our people and I was soooooo overwhelmed with the 'First Nations' section of it all - this song I remembered since that first night! I've never heard it since, but I've remembered it! Thanks soooo much for posting this. God bless!
Born in New Mexico, I've Native American blood in my veins. In sixth grade, I heard this song in music class and I had no idea what it meant until now. Climb the ladder means: Succeed well in life, your family and friends will be proud of you. It took me years to figure that out. So climb the ladder, earn your feather, and make your people proud of you.
❤this is a wonderful song I love this ❤song
My sport teacher in primary school taught us this song and we all sung it with him at our graduation. I really hope he lives a long and wonderful life for making everyone he meets great full they met.

For some reason I have never forgotten this song that I learned in elementary over 30 years ago! I love the calmness that this beat and rhythm creates! I just have never forgotten the feeling it gave me! Still a great song that even nowadays can still have the calming affects it did all those years ago!
when i hear this it makes me cry because i don't think i've done anything to be proud of despite my attempts to do so.
Go find someone and complement them on something about themselves. Find an older person who needs help and help them. Donate to charity, there's plenty of things to do that you can be proud of.
I can relate
Your attempts are something to be proud of.
You're trying my friend. Wherever you are today, there's lots of people that are proud of you :)
This song had me in a chokehold in 4th & 5th grade! Though I remember a man singing that version, this is still awesome!

My father was Cherokee, but I am adopted, and was born without Indian blood, so I can never be accepted as a Cherokee.
Never the less, I don't know why, but when I first heard this song, I was moved to tears of pride, hope, and joy.
As a student at Brigham Young University, I learned the song, and now you can see my own amateur version on YOU TUBE, which admittedly, doesn't begin to compare with this.
Congratulations on a fantastic production!

i recall performing this song and series of movements in my high school days. early 80s rainy river high, west fort high and community groups... we were well received. my first EVER public performance. :) it also reminds me of Garnet ... :)

This song was one sung at my Boy Scout Eagle Court of Honor. That was 20+ years ago. And it continues to be great inspiration to my children.
I remember when i was in 5th grade; i had to sign like them infront of whoole student that go in my school! and my homeroom class was singing rlly smoothing and it was great! and also im deaf and i know how to sign everything!
