Is professor Brock a Syriac Orthodox Christian, or is it just an area of study? I was Jewish and converted to Eastern Orthodoxy, but have taken an interest in Syriac Aramaic because of its similarities to Hebrew, the liturgical language of the synagogue.

I'm not sure if he's ever said. He's so irenic that Orthodox, Catholic, and Syriac folks all respect him.

Nathan Anderson Can’t argue with that. I just read a book on the teachings of St. Isaac the Syrian that was translated by one of his students, Hilarion Alfeyev. It was excellent. Whatever he is I’m glad he has been here to contribute to the richness in preserving the teachings of the Syriac speaking church.

@@joachimjustinmorgan4851 Yeah Pr. Brock is an asset to the Syriac world. He is accepted by the Syrian Orthodox, the Assyrian Church of the East, and the Syro-Malabar church in India. The Syro-Malabar Church has bestowed upon him the title of "Malpan" which is given to people who contribute and are well learned in the Syriac language.

Sebastian Brock is either a Catholic or Protestant..
His name suggests he's not Eastern or Oriental Orthodox.

Saint Isaac the Syrian belongs to the Church of the East.
