  • Mansheya Nasir, also known as "Garbage City", is a slum settlement of around 60,000 on the outskirts of Cairo, home to mostly Coptic Christians. Many of the residents here work as unofficial garbage collectors throughout the city, collecting garbage and transporting it via donkey carts or trucks for a small fee and then sorting it for recyclable materials once home. Join me and Kata as we walk from the center of downtown Cairo to Garbage City, meeting a large group of children along the way.
    Welcome to the channel! I’m surprised no one elder tried to stop the kids and asked them to behave.

      @Gventures  7 месяцев назад +2

      Ahaha, well a few of the elders tried, but at a certain point it was just a mob of children and there was no controlling that amount of kids 😅 We sought refuge in that little shop and the shop owner did shoo some of them away 🤣 Although it was really chaotic, it was funny and the kids were cute (just INSANELY energetic), but it's a good memory 🥰

      Ahaha I am sure. We were in a neighborhood where not many tourists go and with my red hair and Kata being tall and blond, we definitely stuck out. Although the children got to be a little crazy, it is a fun memory and everything was fine, the kids just got a little wild. Cheers man, and thanks for watching!

    Lmaooo how did y'all eventually even manage to escape the kids? It seems like they were adamant to follow you wherever you went lol. Super cute though and they're obviously just excited to see foreigners ☺

      We didn't, actually 🤣 Not until we crossed the bridge over the highway into City of the Dead, that's when they all stopped following us, but up until that point we had quite a few stragglers 😅

    Hello darling, I am Egyptian American live here in America for the last 40 years. I salute you and I thank you for this beautiful channel but I feel bad. Do you have to deal with these kids anyone bother you or anyone touch you make sure ask the people to call the cops, Egypt has low , prohibited such an act I will give you credit and I'm proud of you❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

      Why feel bad? These kids were cute! We went into their neighborhood, 2 foreigners, one with blond hair and the other with red hair and a camera, of course the kids are going to be curious! And we could have chosen to ignore them, but because we didn't the crowd of kids grew until it got out of control 😂But this is a fond memory and I laugh about it still. Thanks for watching my channel though I'm glad you are enjoying it 🥰

    Do you find it difficult to come back to the US and nobody really even says hello?

    • @Gventures
      @Gventures  Год назад +1

      Whaaaat.....I have never wanted fame or to be a celebrity, so no. Actually, you will encounter a lot of curiosity from locals depending on what country you are traveling in, I had a lot of people asking for photos with me when I was in India, for example. I do not live in the US now, I actually live in Cairo. But even after traveling for years abroad and then returning to the US for a brief stint, no I did not difficult at all find it difficult. I don't mind curious and friendly people saying hello or asking for a photo, but I certainly don't crave it either.

    • @laurajaye9

      @@Gventures I didn’t mean that you “wanted” that. I just meant I wish people were more friendly here. I meant did you miss the warmth and friendliness of people. I think it’s beautiful the way people are there. I myself think I might miss that coming back. Thanks for responding. 💗

    • @Gventures
      @Gventures  Год назад +3

      @@laurajaye9 Oh 😆I guess I misinterpreted that. Yeah people are pretty friendly here, the warmth I am (and others are) received with in some countries around the world is astounding. Being invited to families homes I barely know for dinner, invited to sit down and have tea with people I have barely spoken to. Americans have a reputation of being friendly (especially in Europe), but it's a surface level friendliness. We might say hello to people or speak with them randomly in an elevator, but we aren't inviting any strangers into our homes for dinner. I don't miss the US, but it's not so much for the lack of friendliness as many other things 😅 Thanks for watching, my bad about misunderstanding

      Uh, who said anything about "wicked" in this video? You are acting offended but have no reason to, I did not say or do anything offensive in this video. And why are you mentioning America like "Look, America is so much worse!" ?!
      I never said Egypt was worse or America was worse, I am not and would never even compare the two countries. And I live in Egypt and not in America, so clearly I like living in one place more than the other. People like you need to relax and stop taking everything so personally and getting offended because I went walking around the streets filming. I am nice, I am not talking badly about anyone, I had fun, and that is it. If you have a problem with this video then that problem is within yourself.

      Sensitive! It's literally called "City of Garbage People" in Arabic, and you have a problem with me calling it simply "Garbage City" in English? 🤣 And I don't have the power to "ruin tourism" in Egypt. Many people have made videos about this place, they have even made movies about it. Relax.

    Why did you go there for ? It is same going to bad neighbourhood in your country. At least no body hurts you which
    That is not the case in your country !!!
    You. Could of save your trip by going to your ghetto

      I went there because it sounded interesting. I woke up in my hostel one morning and a girl below my bunk bed asked if I wanted to go to garbage city. I'd never heard of it before and thought "why not?". I'm glad I went. I wouldn't compare the neighbourhood with something from the US, because it would be dangerous if I went to a bad neighbourhood in the US. Most people were friendly here, the kids just got kinda crazy. Hope you keep enjoying the videos, thanks!
