•Kids, it's been almost 20 years since that cold April night in 2013, and I can safely tell you, if I could go back in time and relive that night, there's no way in hell I'd go to "Robots vs. Wrestlers". No, I'd go home. I'd go to my old apartment, see all my old furniture, my old stuff. I'd see my old drafting table, where I sketched out my first building. I'd sit on that old couch and smell the Indian food cooking three stories below. I'd go to Lily and Marshall's place,be back in that old living room where so many things happened. I'd see the baby. I don't know if you can picture me holding your six-foot-seven cousin Marvin over my head, but back then I could. I'd go have a drink with Barney and Robin, watch them fight about their caterer or whatever it was they were fighting about that night. But none of those things is the thing I'd do first.You know the thing I'd do first?

What I find funny is that I uploaded this video almost 3 years ago, when I started my life in London. This picture is the street where I used to live. 10 Salisbury Road. And it was a shithole. But one day when I got home I saw this rainbow and it was so beatiful, and I felt like it was a special moment. And at that night I saw this episode where Ted is all alone. So I took this picture and uploaded this video. And now everybody is watching it all around the world and make comments about it. It's interesting how things can affect lives and moments.

Suddenly.. sadness hits me the moment I saw this.
I was doing a rerun of HIMYM an year back. This scene came up. It was a Saturday evening. I was sitting on my couch with a glass of whiskey. All alone in my home. Why? Because all my friends were married and I had no one to go out and meet. The scene hit me so hard. I cried myself to sleep that night. Funny how a Sitcom makes you cry like a baby.

I remember writing a comment on here about 4 years ago, wondering if and when my life would start to turn around for the better. Wondering when I wasn't going to feel so alone anymore. "How your mother met me" was the best episode of entire series, it didn't drop excitement even for a second and rendition of La vie en rose sung by mother at the end was cherry on the top. :)

First time I watched this, I thought it was profoundly beautiful that Ted wanted to meet his wife sooner, so they could ride off in the sunset that quicker. Finally, after the finale and re-watching the series again, I realized that he really needed those extra days because she's gone and never coming back. All he wants is to savor that time they had together even longer.

Ash Angel Yes, when I re-watched it was, by far, the saddest, most overwhelming moment in the whole series.

This was also horrible.
The first time I watched it I thought it was unnecessarily melodramatic and didn't really make sense. Then when I watched it again after I've seen the finale I cried like a little bitch
As amazing as every aspect of this episode was, including Ted's powerful speech to the mother, when I hear this song, that speech is not what I think of. It was well written, touching, and immensely sad, but alas it was make-believe. It didn't happen, those words, however beautiful, were never spoken, only imagined by future Ted in a hypothetical universe. No, to me this song will forever signify the most heart-breaking and real moment of season 8, perhaps the entire show. And it seems the writers agree with me, as the title of the song is in reference not to Ted's speech, but to the scene prior. When we realize that, after 8 years, Ted had not found the happiness he had been dreaming of since episode 1. That feeling of loneliness while those closest to you all seem to have what you are after, including the girl of your dreams getting married to your best friend, must be unimaginably painful. Josh Radnor does a great job in this episode, conveying that emotion rather well after Barney delivers the "You're all alone" line that feels like a punch to the gut. The scenario seems so plausible and real, as if any one of us could end up in Ted's situation, and that relateability is what makes it so heart-wrenching.

Sometimes when I feel terrible, having panic attack thinking about how my life is leading to nowhere, I just come here and I loop this song. I start to read the comments and I feel better. I'm still all alone and I know it won't change if I don't find out how to get out of this but for a reason this song soothes me.

This words, each and every single word Barney utters, hits us...and it hits us hard. It makes us recall all those stupid moments we said goodbye to someone over a silly fight. Because that someone while leaving took a part of our heart with them. And when all these someones are summed up...we feel hollow. We feel, alone. Not only Ted but probably all of us want those 45 days with our friends , loved ones, family, because we never really can't get enough of them. And manh if you are lucky and you got those "45days" ...never let that person go, find a reason to stay...with them...together...not alone, NEVER alone.
It's over. And now we know why Ted wanted those extra 45 days. A woman like Tracy McConnell is a once in 10 lifetimes kind of woman. The perfect kind that you'd cherish meeting and knowing. And someday, I'm going to have that. I know it.
That is beautiful. I think this story can really give you a bit of hope then. (I know it's fictional but still awesome) All the times he was thrown to the gutter, he kept going and he found Tracy.

This song just makes me want to cry every time I hear it. It's so beautiful, but also reminds me of so many HIMYM moments. This is off topic, but I'm currently in a similar situation as Ted has been in many times - where you just try so hard and put so much effort into people and they just don't feel the same towards you. It's both mentally and emotionally exhausting, it's truly heart breaking. This song just brings up so many emotions. I really hope the saying is true, that everything will be alright in the end. And we all find our own Ted Mosby's and Tracy McConnells.
Update : I still feel shitty and upset about this stupid guy I've been in love with for over a year and he has no idea because I'm too afraid to tell him / know he doesn't feel the same way about me.

This show never had it's big emotional parts to me. Until this came along. And I just kinda cried. This song fit so well with how Ted was all alone at this point in his life, with everyone moving on. And how he would go to meet 'The Mother' even if he were to be knocked out and beat. He'd take whatever more time he could get. That shows that he loves this woman to death. Until the end of their times.

I wrote a comment here 4 years ago. I wrote of how the episode made me cry every time i see it and how much i can relate. After I wrote the comment i met a bunch of new people who were all willing to go out and have fun with me. And when I listen to this song, it just made me smile thinking "ah yes, those lonely days..." But then about a year ago, those new bunch of people I met started to create families. And now, I'm back to where I started. Alone, on a weekend, in my living room with food for 6 people and enough alcohol to knock down an elephant. This time i don't feel sad that I'm alone. this time, i just feel disappointed in myself. it seems like everyone around was capable of growth. and here I am, stuck on a loop, growing, but growing on a different direction than everybody else. growing towards that lonesome and nihilistic life.

I came back to this song. Last weekend i was on a wedding. She is a good Friend of mine. We now eatch other for 16 years ( 5th grade like most of my friends). Her husband is great and the wedding was truly beautiful. But after the wedding and everybody goes home, they go home together. I go home alone. In the dark streets and think about the evening. I was happy. We have fun, drink and dance nur than i realized all my friends build a life. They buy houses, married and become parents. I saw everything because we all know eatchother since school. And im lucky to have them and im happy that they happy. We can have the best day but in the end, if i closed the door of my little apartment im alone. I cant talk with somebody over the day. I watch tv and Fall aslepp on the couch. Sometimes i talked about this with them. But what can they do? The only person that can change that is me. I dont know why i write this. Maybe nobody will read this. But it helps to write to strangers that have or had the same expirience. I wish you all good luck. And sorry for the englisch. Its not my motherlanguage.

Watched this around 2015-16 and rewatched it every year many times..Only to find myself at midnight 1 am unable to sleep and just lonely..I understand teds pain,cuz my life turned out like him.This score didn't hurt me before,but tears won't stop now..I have been too strong and it made me kind but also rude..I am just broken inside and no one ever asked me that.

I used to believe in "The One" But umm... Not anymore... But this letter... This letter just shows me our capacity love someone we haven't even met yet. It's incredible what love could do for someone, and with that love comes hope. It's what keeps us going and it helps us push forward through the bad days. I have lifed through more pain then I can ever handel for one life time, and I was done with life in general. I watched how I met your mother. When this song played for the first time I cryed for the first time sinds I was a kid. I love you man, you thought me how to feel again. I will always be grateful for that. Your song doesn't need any text it's perfect as it is. It sounds like the angels played this song for me. I come to this video sometimes just to remember that I'm living Ted's devastating moment of being all alone, but in my story there's no happy turn around, there's no sweet nor bittersweet ending where I find the person I've been looking for my whole life, it's all just an endless void of hopelessness that doesn't seem to end.

been crying to this for over 45 minutes now. i cant help but think about how deep this song can go. some piano songs, no matter where they're from can just affect you in such a way that it makes you think, feel, look, etc. . . Isn't this the human experience? where we discover and explore, learn and teach, be wise and merry? There's a deleted scene from the finale (idiots, it was such a necessary one too) where Ted & Robin meet up. Robin is miserable & ends up thinking Ted is unhappy with Tracy & basically wants to be with him. Ted says no, says he's happy with Tracy. The mother was always his first choice, not Robin. If she hadn't died, he'd have spent his life with her & Robin probably with her dogs & terrible finale haircut.

In many ways I'm in a slump. I don't know what I'm going to do with my life and I don't know if anything will ever come of me. If I had listened to this song a year ago, It would probably have made me feel just like Ted. Alone.
But I've made a friend. She is one of the best people I've ever met, and she deserves way better than what life has given her. She lights up my world. And I will love her for as long as I can. I will do my best to brighten her days and make her smile. Because if anyone has ever deserved to smile it's her.

I’ve been alone for most of my life. But around a year and a half ago, things started to change. I made friends, got into better shape, my grades improved, I found new hobbies. and I even got into a great college. Then covid hit.

this song, the picture the uploader chose, the stories behind both, the things people tell each other in the comment section...this is something special, in a time where most of the internet is so full of negativity and conflicts, listening to the song and thinking about the show, the characters, the attached memories and reading what so many people have to say here just made me cry like i haven't cried in a long time. an exceptionally beautiful piece of music and by far my favorite moment in my favorite episode of HIMYM.

You know many years ago, I saw this scene; the scene of Ted saying how he would want those extra 45 days. at the time I didn't understand it in an emotional sense but having having lost my late girlfriend, I finally understand it. I want those extra 45 days with her, I would do anything in the world to spend one more moment talking to her; apologizing for every mistake I ever made, not being honest with her about the issues troubling me. And telling her one last time of how much I truly love and appreciate the time of having spent with her. To tell her "I love you. I’m always gonna love you, til the end of my days and beyond. You’ll see.”

When i listen to this, I always think about the last time we held our hands, the way u loved, the last time we looked into each others eyes and told each other how much we love each other. Just a small note to myself
2078 was harsh, slow but necessary. I'm stepping into 2079 hoping for better life. I've been stuck here since 2019 and now I want to get out and pour my energy for the good, for the things that matter to me. I want to go ahead, find my people and shout at the world saying thank you for bringing us together. It's a begining and it definitely takes time. It's just that I've been stuck here forever and time isn't passing at all, even though it is passing numerically. I'm all alone, just like Ted, hoping to be surrounded by my people soon.

Im sitting here listening this masterpiece on a cold December morning watching the sun rise. For me 2018 was a struggle I had love lost and had to explore new areas of life. It was rough but the ted mosby in my soul remains hopeful for love and for the happy ending. As sure as the sun will rise its all out there waiting..
I remember watching the episode and when Barney said "You're all alone", it hit hard, like it was saying to me and I started crying, not only for Ted but also for me. It's been years since then and I still feel like that - alone. As time passes, I'm feeling less and less hopeful.

I haven't allowed myself to be in love for years, all for the sake of my dream job. I have sacrificed and I am still sacrificing time, materials and effort for it. The thing that costs me the most however is the time I don't have anymore with my family. I am 25 years old and for 8 years I have been away from home and I feel I have missed so much from their lifes. If I were to turn back time before I left home, I would spend more time with my family and friends instead of playing video games or studying too much or closing myself in my own little world. Time is the most precious gift we receive and give. And time with our loved ones is always getting less and less. It is a sad reminder but it helps me to remember to talk a bit more with my family, to visit a bit more. This is what I think when I listen to this song.

Same here. My grandma passed away a couple of months ago. She used to live with us and although I have tons of memories with her to cherish forever of my life, I still feel I could have spent more time with her during her very last days. For example, just as you mentioned I have spent an awful lot of time watching series and stuff and whenever my grama would see me watching those for hours she would ask me to come and talk to her rather than spending away my day like that.. Little did I think time was ticking and just like that she is gone now and just thinking about all those stuff makes me very sad and fills my inside with guilt.
The present is greatly undervalued and for that we should live our present to the best.

Hi, I’m currently 18, I live a somewhat lonely life, I wake up, get the bus, stare outside thinking about the ‘one’ for 30 minutes, get to college, I have too much free time in college so I listen to music whilst day dreaming about the ‘one’, I then get the bus back and again stare outside the window and think about her, at home I do nothing but re watch himym. I’m writing this so in the future I can tell you guys if it does get better, hopefully she comes into my life soon...

This was posted a day before I met the girl I love, and the playing of this song during Ted Mosby's speech reminded me of her. and it was within 43 days between being rejected by a girl I always liked, and meeting the girl I love, like Ted Mosby, in May, in New York, and in the rain.
She left for her home in Japan, but we managed to keep in touch for a while. But now it's been such a long time since we spoke, for reasons unknown to me to this day. It just stopped: No warning, nothing that would have hinted towards such a long silence. But I don't recall feeling as happy as I was when I saw her adorable face light up when hearing those stupid jokes I would tell her. I'm in love with her, and that's why I hope to see her again.
When I do talk about her, I feel like Ted Mosby talking about the mother, and I know that is not an uncommon feeling among fellow "How I Met Your Mother" fans who relate to his search for the mother. Hell, it was only after I watched the entire series in a binge watch a few months after this brilliant show ended, that I saw these similarities. These relations are strangely coincidental. Signs like these I don't take seriously, but they do serve as reminders.
I felt like posting this once I heard this song, and a rerun of the episode "The Time Travelers." And I know that this girl and I will be reunited once again, and I can't wait until that day.

I have loved her completely, blindly and irrevocably for as long as I can imagine. She decided to end things up one day because she realised that she didn't have the same feelings for me anymore. I'm David. I'm turning 16 in a couple days. I'll be back here when I turn 21. Life's been good tbh. I've changed a lot in the last year so I can't even imagine how my life will be at that point. My plan is to find new friends till then, maybe have my Bachelor's degree, or at least be on a pretty good track towards that. I want to start dating but I don't want anything too serious. Who knows.
