I started watching this miniseries last night and stayed up until part 12 of 13 which I finished when I woke up. It is difficult to adequately express how profoundly I was moved by it. I think this miniseries should be revived and viewed by every American because of it's tremendous relevance to the state of affairs in our country today. I don't think it would be hard to imagine this happening in our country today due to the divisions in our people and our politics. A country so in turmoil as ours would have a hard time standing against an invasion. As in the movie, most Americans are so lackadaisical about being an American they don't really think about what it means-much less have the willingness to stand up for their beliefs and that is how this sort of thing could become our reality. Kris Kristofferson gave a very compelling and powerful performance as did several of the main characters. Thank you for putting this on you tube!
I wouldn't have uploaded it if it was in the stores, but it isn't... all you can get are rare VHS and some people who're trying to make money from it... the VHS for 250 dollars! That money wouldn't go to the producers or actors... So I thought it's just fair to upload it, so people can figure what it was about... There was some talking about it in interviews with Kris, which made me curious about it. I think everyone should have the chance to watch it themselves to form their opinion about it.
Good to see that this is finally on RUclips. I remember seeing most of it during the original telecast. It is a very good look at how people react to changing circumstances and how they respond to the invaders. 'Amerika' was actually proceeded in this theme by 1983s 'V' where reptilian aliens disguised as humans attempted to conquer the earth. For some reason while there were many voices complaining that 'Amerika' was unbelievable...the same was not said about 'V'. Thank you for posting it and I intend to watch the whole thing 27 years after it's one appearance on television.
About a quarter of this miniseries was shot in my hometown back in 1986. I was one of the extras (member of the Milford baseball team). We actually got out of school for a day to film the parade scene. We videotaped the whole thing when it aired the following February, but I don't think we ever watched it again after it aired.
Kris was a Rhodes Scholar, studied English literature at Oxford. Then he was a pilot in the army, later, when already trying to make it as a songwriter in Nashville, he'd fly helicopters to the offshore oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico every other week to earn money for a living, and he was a ranger pilot for just a short time, too. You're right, not many people know much of his amazing biography. Hopefully he is finishing his autobiography soon...
Without doubt, this is one of the best TV series of all time. I remember watching it back in 1987. If I'm not mistaken, it was only aired once. Thank you very much for posting the complete series. I've been waiting for almost 25 years to see it again.
Wow, I too want to thank you for posting these! I can remember coming home from school and watching these when they originally aired, it was a HUGE deal! I was young, but I can certainly remember the "hoopla" when they were shown on tv! With the new version of the movie Red Dawn coming out and another mini-series called The Americans(with the "a" in the word Americans the sign of an old Soviet Union symbol), these may get a ton more viewings in the next few months! I LOVED the 1980's! ~F.J.G.
Thanks so much for posting this on-line. I remember it was on ABC in 1987 and watched about two hours of it, the first night and saw bits in pieces throughout the week that it aired. It's nice to be able to watch it all the way through, unedited.
Thank you for putting this online. If only people would pull their heads out of the sand and see what is happening. I often wonder will we be the ones who the future will look back on and say "why didn't they listen to them?"
Thank you very much for posting this miniseries. I had never watched it, nor did I even know it existed as at the time I was stationed over in West Germany on the frontier border watching commies. I read the book back 4-5 years ago and said I would love to watch this series.
I wish I had had access to this before I spent $60 on a CD several years ago, which was poorly recorded, with sound drop-outs and many scenes edited out. Anyway, I saw the series when it aired in 1987, and it was unfairly villified by critics and bureaucrats as "improbable". We were in the midst of a cold war back then, and Donald Wrye was merely trying to get across the idea that the US could very well end up in the hands of the Russians if we did not get our act together. But, The Powers That May Be did not want to hear it. On a brighter note, Christine Lahti (Alethea), gave a stellar performance, garnering her the show's only Emmy nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Thank you for sharing this miniseries, which has never (and probably never will) air again.
On a lighter note, after this came out, Saturday Night Live did a hilarious sketch based on it called, "Amerida", with the premise that Canada had taken over the U.S.
I was living in real Soviet Union and never saw such a rough propaganda like this. Soviets did propaganda movies too but they were a way more sophisticated. USA as a country was almost never shown. Bad americans were acting usually in Latin America or Africa. Americans never invaded SU. Their capitalists and militarists were invading some poor fictive Latin American country and executing atrocities there. Americans were usually very clever, cool and smart, the good ones and soviets were honest, sheer and quite a naive characters.
Thanks for posting this. I had it on VHS, recorded from the original broadcast, but no idea where those tapes are now. I was a kid and had a strange way of organizing TV recordings at the time. LOL I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who remembers this. I even have the novelization of the miniseries somewhere. ABC has always acted like it never even happened.
Thanks for posting this. I hope it spreads far and wide. I have the old tapes, and have suggested a couple of American friends watch it years ago. Now it's more urgent I feel. However, it was not Russians per se. 66 million Russians were murdered during this "revolution" while we were being taught to hate them and be very afraid.
Thank you uploader. I have had this bookmarked for a couple of years but have never had a chance to watch it. I found the time this weekend. I remember vividly what a negative reaction ABC received and that they considered not airing the miniseries due to that negativity. Thank you again!..
I just heard Green Beret John Moore (the liberty man) on his radio show on republic Broadcasting say that the book this film came out of was started with an EMP attack on the U S which is never revealed in the movie-mini series. Very interesting.
However, the same ideas are playing out in America and the west now. Which is why we can't buy Solzhenitzyn's last book, "200 Years Together..." in the west.
"Gentlemen, Comrades, do not be concerned about all you hear about glasnost and perestroika and democracy in the coming years. These are primarily for outward consumption. There will be no significant internal change within the Soviet Union, other than for cosmetic purposes. Our purpose is to disarm the Americans and let them fall asleep." Mikhail Gorbachev, (on the coming Perestroika deception) speech to the Politburo, November, 1987
What an incredible movie. The Russian general and colonel were two men stuck between a rock and a hard place - appease the Kremlin while maintaining civil relations with the Americans. Peter Bradford, a pragmatist. Acting only with the best of intentions. Devon Millford, the idealist. These two men were friends. The tensions and conflicts between the characters are quite palpable.
I just watched this a few months ago. My dad wouldn't let me watch it when I was a kid. Wasn't bad. It was sometimes get uneven in parts but it would get back on track.
thanks for that info... I've found the vid you mentioned and learned it was his first and only Conan live concert. He passed away only 4 months later. The vid is Conan The Symphony - Part 1 (Anvil of Crom - Riddle of Steel / Riders of Doom)
@IHCNavistar I agree, it's confusing... I already thought about numbering from 1-13, but I'm glad I haven't done so as long as I haven't watched them all by myself... The vids of episode 3 are not synchronous and I must admit, it would have been much harder for me to find the right files on my PC to fix them if I had renamed them lol... Of course you're right, and I will do so when it's all finished. But actually, I made a playlist, so just use that one for better comfort. Thanks for commenting!
I saw this in its original tv run. I enjoyed it then & I'll enjoy it now. It was just a movie though I believe it was basef on a novel. Please don't read any more into this than what it is. A show made for profit & to entertain. Both those goeal were met. Sit back relax and enjoy. There is no conspiracy!!!
This movie was in response to The Day After (Not to be confused with The Day After Tomorrow). ABC tried to show two sides...life under Red Skies vs. life under Red Ground (occupation under the Soviets). The USSR threatened ABC to expel their news crew if they went through with Amerika. Fortunately, Gorbachev was in power by 1987 which lessened their Fascist character.

Wow. Never saw this in the 80s. Good portrayal of life after normalization to socialism & hardcore communism. I guess in this film the efforts at military and guerilla resistance have been effectively squashed.
@acehighpat I wished picture quality was better, but the original file I have was just too small. Though I'm just happy to be be able to watch it at all... Thanks for commenting.

@sonshinepenguin ok, it's done... btw, the following video to each part will appear at the top of the featured vids on the right as I've just noticed while adding the "0" :-)
Great miniseries. BUT, you really need to work on sequence numbering. It's (Part #) - (Total # Of Parts). Right now, I am looking at sequence labels of 1-1 of 3, 1-2 of 3, 2-3 of 3, 2-1, 5-2, 1-2, 1-2, 2-1, etc. A real pain if trying to follow them in order.....
@sonshinepenguin you want to say I should title them 01, 02, 03... instead of single numbers 1, 2, 3,... ? I can do it if that helps... But you can also use the playlist of the movie - the link is in the info box of the video under the screen.
The classroom scene in this 1st episode was so outrageous when it was broadcast, but in today's classroom that the kind of crap that was in that scene is taught to your kids as if it is the truth.
John Van Alstein I so agree with you, this whole scenario is more even more relevant today than when it was released! I think it should be re-released now to wake everybody up to a huge reality check!
The teacher is right, everybody in the western civilizatIon from new Zealand to Uk from Norway to Argentina knows that social Darwinism is the way of life in america.About the indians...well it was a genocide, nobody cant denied that
I remember taping most of this series in '87.Twenty-five years later, and it's spooky how some of this is an example of "life imitating art". Kruschev once told a US official ,"you'll be a Communist nation with nary a shot being fired." This series shows how far we've come towards that end.
In this episode, host Peter Krogh is joined by journalist and political advisor Frank Mankiewicz and William Adams, professor of public policy and public administration at George Washington University, to discuss the impact of the miniseries. repository.library.georgetown.edu/handle/10822/552584
ну где ж такие школы с такой мебелью были в России?! - деревянные ободранные парты, как сейчас помню, мы сами их драили со стиральным порошком и сами же красили летом.

Because "V" was obvious sci-fi and never expected to be perceived as realistic.

thanks for posting! my parents and aunt are extras in this movie, and i have been wanting to see it for years!!!

Have been looking for this on netflix forever
That town has not changed hardly at all since this series... I used to live in the town it was primarily filmed in. It's Tecumseh Nebraska.
thanks for posting this. i was beginning to think i had imagined it existed!
This series is more relevant today' because of recent events.
I wish I had had access to this before I spent $60 on a CD several years ago, which was poorly recorded, with sound drop-outs and many scenes edited out. This needs to be on Netflix or Hulu
Thanks so much for posting this movie. Saw it ages ago. I've referred many freedom-loving friends to it.
I just heard Green Beret John Moore (the liberty man) on his radio show on republic Broadcasting say that the book this film came out of was started with an EMP attack on the U S which is never revealed in the movie-mini series. Very interesting.
I have the book and that's exactly what happened.

Basil Poledouris's music is so awesome!
Thanks for posting this. I remember watching this series as a kid.
Thanks for uploading this great & scary Miniseries. this basically was a prediction to our future becoming a Totalitarian Fascist State.
Thanks for posting it! My wife and her family were extras somewhere in the parade scene in Tecumseh.
I just watched this a few months ago. My dad wouldn't let me watch it when I was a kid. Wasn't bad. It was sometimes get uneven in parts but it would get back on track.
Thank you so much for posting !
thank you for posting this. i have been looking all over for it. i saw it when it was on tv, and a have the book. thanks again!
thanks for posting this with all the deleted scenes! i actually paid for a copy online and they skimmed out on so much of it >.
I keep thinking of SNL's spoof of this mini-series. It was called "Amerida", it was about the Canadian takeover of the U.S. Absolutely hilarious.
Thanks for putting this up there biggestkkfan. Kris is one of those actors where I've liked everything I've seen him in.
Thanks for posting but what a depressing ending.
I agree on that...
Thanks; I've been searching for this for a long time..
The funny thing about this is that rural, small-town America is just a big a wasteland today as it is in this miniseries.
I have always wanted to see this show.thanks!
thanks for that info... I've found the vid you mentioned and learned it was his first and only Conan live concert. He passed away only 4 months later. The vid is Conan The Symphony - Part 1 (Anvil of Crom - Riddle of Steel / Riders of Doom)
Watching this because of a Politico Magazine article.
Basil was a great composer. If you haven't seen it, there is a video of him shortly before he died where he conducted the Conan soundtrack.
People, this is a work of fiction based on a novel. This was made for fun and PROFIT. Don't read into it any more than that.

This needs to be remade and brought back on television so that the public can see where our country is headed.

Both Fascism and Communism (i.e. Socialism implemented by Marxist-Leninist) are totalitarian meaning... anti-Liberty (John Locke, Ayn Rand, Libertarian Party). Got it?

THANX FOR UPLOAD! :D
You're welcome :-) The German VHS edition also is much shorter...
Thank you
I really would be surprised if there was a DVD other than a self-made copy from the VHS... certainly no subtitles, whereas chapters are no problem to make... If you ever find a professionally produced DVD, I'll appreciate if you tell me.
Is it possible to view part 2, It is private and I cannot watch. Thank you very much for posting these, They are pretty tough to find anywhere.
That was by mistake, must have forgotten to bring back this one. It's available now, thanks for telling me.
Not a problem, and Thank U :) excellent stuff.
Ironic role for Kristofferson since he was so in love with the Sandinistas.
@OmegaMan417 Maybe it's even more interesting to watch it these days, more than 20 years after the Cold War had gone. I'd wanted to watch it since I first heard of it, just because I was really curious about it. I only knew it from interviews and reviews and such, but I prefered to form a view on it myself before talking about it. So I was happy when I finally got it and thought, others would be as happy as I was... Thanks for the comment.
I...wanted...to......check........this......due...to....nostalgia....................but.....I can.t.....
PLEEEEZ SPARE ME FROM EVER WATCHING THIS SHOW AGAIN! I THANK-YOU
Thank you so much for posting these videos . The United States is heading in this path .This is a great wake up call.
dear God. after only watching 45 minutes, it's scary seeing the parallels to what is going on today.
@ASSASIN3601088,
Hopefully, the people of Russia would never allow Communism to take over again as it would destroy their country. Since Communism has been abandoned, Russia has made tremendous strides that drove their country to higher living standards.
Which "Amerika" part has the ceremony in some arena where the crowd sings the new national anthem?
watched "The Gambler" with Mark Wahlberg and I was wondering about his "Remember September" ...now i have my answer..the fantasticks longest playing broadway musical...try to remember september...maybe something going to happen in september ,last blood moon.
And no, I don't have French subtitles either and don't have the French version ( but the German)
You're welcome!
Great series. Sadly coming true in some ways.
Rollerball, Brave New World,...
donde la puedo bajar con subitulos en español? o en donde estan los archivos .srt??
i would suggest the movie Escape From Sobibor
Great mini series I see a lot of paralles with Vichy france and apartheid, as well as communism
Cool Beans, You GO !! :)
@watersprite44 Don't know who has flagged this as spam... It wasn't me. You are very welcome. I just hope they won't remove the vids.
I don't know if there's ever been a Spanish subtitled edition. I can't help you with that.
I agree with you .
Not a fiction anymore...
@IHCNavistar the link to the playlist is in the info box of each vid under the screen...
you're welcome :-)
@sonshinepenguin you want to say I should title them 01, 02, 03... instead of single numbers 1, 2, 3,... ? I can do it if that helps... But you can also use the playlist of the movie - the link is in the info box of the video under the screen.
Tried but quality is just too bad to even enjoy it a little.
its... hard... too.. keep.. track.................. i need to............. watch this in fast forward.
The classroom scene in this 1st episode was so outrageous when it was broadcast, but in today's classroom that the kind of crap that was in that scene is taught to your kids as if it is the truth.

Yeah of course, all the native tribes were fighting united against colonists. Keep believing that drivel
@burlearth,
There's always been a free-market. Parts of it have always been illegal, but more of it is illegal now than ever before in the US.
@burlearth,
We've become less capitalist in the "free-market" sense of the term.
Oh my God, I love Sam Neill as much as the next guy but his Russian accent is so fucking forced it makes my ears bleed.
What year is the story set?
I remember taping most of this series in '87.Twenty-five years later, and it's spooky how some of this is an example of "life imitating art". Kruschev once told a US official ,"you'll be a Communist nation with nary a shot being fired." This series shows how far we've come towards that end.
In this episode, host Peter Krogh is joined by journalist and political advisor Frank Mankiewicz and William Adams, professor of public policy and public administration at George Washington University, to discuss the impact of the miniseries.
