  • Teachers Must Avoid this AI Detection method at all costs!
⚠️This video is a response to a highly controversial video posted on Instagram by a teacher about identifying if their students have used ChatGPT for their homework. The video sparked a huge discussion among the members of the ChatGPT for Teachers group on Facebook, so I decided to state my point of view on the matter.
ChatGPT for the classroom is super beneficial for both teaching and learning, but if you follow this approach, your authority will diminish and your students' trust will fracture.

👍🏼Do you agree with me? If so, be sure to leave a comment and let our voices be heard!
    -----------
By the way, do check out the teacher's Instagram profile. She is doing good work overall, although I highly disagree with her approach to using ChatGPT this way.

Tricky one this one, the world is still finding its way with AI, students and teachers are no exception. I do agree with you, though, that it has to be addressed head on by the education system and if we work on the premise that a teacher's role is to prepare their students for life in the real world, it is a teacher's obligation to education students about the advantages and disadvantages of its use and the ethical considerations too.

Thank you Louise for sharing your perspective :)
It's crucial for educators to address the nuances of AI and its impact on students. Teaching them about the advantages, disadvantages, and ethical considerations is indeed essential.

Yeah that's dumb. kid's will find out and spread it among themselves. You'll lose all your cred. And some students may cut and paste the instructions into their own document for reference (as I'd typically do), and then they'll see those sneaky instructions and follow them, with no ChatGPT involved. This is seriously playing with fire.
There are way better ways if you want to get them to do the work without AI assistance.

I wholeheartedly agree with you. If any teacher resorts to this method, it will unquestionably undermine their credibility. By the way, I'm curious to hear your thoughts. Can you suggest alternative approaches to completing homework without relying on AI assistance?

@@Educraft Hey I did over on the facebook group! :) I actually have since played around with the idea a bit.... have students write their essays in a program that records all edits and can play them back (sped up typically, and where you can skip around through the timeline). Teachers would only look at it if they were suspicious or otherwise curious about the student's process. Sort of like how we used to have to turn in a rough draft, but this is more of a continuous rough draft.

@@robbrown2 Sounds like an interesting approach! Thank you for taking the time to repeat yourself

It's clear that you're not a teacher and you have no clue what it means being a teacher nowadays, the things they have to do, the limited time, curriculum they have to complete, the objectives for the students, marking, discipline, special needs, students and their parents that lack manners and respect towards the teachers and the institution already from day one.
I think your video lacks in real deep thinking and proper consideration. And in practise, you didn't actually offer a solution or an alternative and if you did it, I failed to grasp it.
Perhaps you think students nowadays are like when YOU were going to school. But I can assure you. It's not the case.

I understand your point and agree with you. However, are you certain that the best way to tackle the problems you've mentioned is for a teacher to attempt this secretive tactic, risking their credibility?
