I once attended a class on jo. It was in return for letting the jo class use our hall.
Anyway , for the back hand stance, the teacher kicked the bottom of the staff forward. So as to get the end of the staff up to head height quicker. Very tricky though!

I missed you earlier ... I love this weapon .. I can't get enough of it .. I am increasing my flexibility to make the forward thrusts and then the wrist strikes a fluid movement .. I am increasing my confidence and comfort level with this weapon . ZOMBIES BEWARE .! Great lesson, thank you Sensei .!!

Yeah go online and look for hardwood dowels and pick your favorite type (oak, ash, or hickory should be good)
