Professionally shot Hurricane Katrina footage showing devastating wind pushing water inland in coastal Mississippi. Video shot by Jim Edds of www.extremestorms.com/
Was this a bad storm? Just kidding... I was 26 years old selling cars & tracking the storm on my desk computer at work. I felt so bad for all those people.
I was living in Ocean Springs, MS, and evacuated 3 days before Katina hit. I had been through Andrew in 92 and I knew this was gonna be bad. And it was. Couldn't get anyone to leave because most had been through Camille and weren't scared. I hope they decide to leave for the next storm. In my mind, if you have the means to get out of harm's way, DO IT. I thought they were stupid for staying. The things they told me. Talk about PTSD. I couldn't believe what I saw when I made it back to my cottage 6 days later. Storm surge crossed Interstate 10 and everything was flat. It was like driving into a movie. God bless all the ppl who lost loved ones.
This video is an invaluable record. It is still not clearly understood by many that the hurricane had first a trip across Florida--covering the entire peninsula from east to west in only 6 hours and causing more than $600 million in damages. Moving in its east to west path, and entering the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico, Katrina spun northwestward. The east side" of a hurricane swirling in a circle counter clockwise is the most powerful. The Gulf coasts of Florida, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana were all devastated. This video shows how massive the storm flooding was, as the waters were swept into the open canal mouths of the city. There were no floodgates.
The first part of the video is from Fort Lauderdale, FL - Katrina's first target. The next day I flew in the NOAA G4 around Katrina to sample the steering currents because Katrina was not sticking to the forecast. By moving SW over more open warm water Katrina had more time to strengthen into a Category 5 and greatly expand in wind field. Expect hurricanes and prepare for them ahead of time. Thanks for watching the channel.
Does anyone see the guy in this video that stumbles then gets back up and continues to Walk. In All the wind carrying a light of some kind ? Creepy lol !
indeed, remember in 2005 everything was still SD on TV. There were a few HDV (1440x1080i) cams out there but they were not widespread. I didn't get one until 2006. Laptop cards like the Sprint data card were fairly rare. I had one in Charley in 2004 which was a key to getting in the eye. If you haven't seen that one it's another good one to watch.
That's Jim Edds filming the incoming storm surge, which you can see in his main video on Katrina. He took the cue to retreat just afterwards and was fine.
I was in 8th grade then. Now I'm gonna be 33.
😢

I was wondering if a historic event like Katrina was captured live on RUclips back in 2005. Looks like this is the closest I’ll grt
