Absolutely wonderful documentary. Bravo and many thanks for creating it, and a hearty BOO! to those on certain magic forums spreading negativity about it.
Great documentary! Thank you for putting it on RUclips! As I got into sleight-of-hand as an adult, I became a big fan of Vernon & “Expert” was my first instructional book! Such an amazing treatise & the mystery if who Erdnase was is always fascinating!
Echoing the sentiments of most commenters, this documentary was just incredible- the content, the storytelling, the "experts" consulted with their intimate knowledge and insights. Unforgettable. Thank you for creating and sharing! Loved it!
The video at 4:20 (B&W video of someone laying and cutting a brief in Bee deck), does anyone know what video that is from? Would love to see the whole thing.
Excellent edition of expert at the card table by Joe Crist with photos of the hand positions and a story about S.W. Erdnase passed down from Joe Artanis . Well worth checking out
Absolutely fascinating! I've never actually owned a copy of Expert at the Card Table - but I'm very familiar with what it is. Might seek out a copy or one of the Revelations/Annotated versions!
Enjoyed this! It occurred to me while watching that the Bible on con games, "The Big Con," was written by an expert in linguistics who learned everything he wrote about cons by becoming friends with con men. Possible that Erdnase used the same approach? I, too, am happier leaving the true name of the author a mystery.
Who is the first guy to speak? The guy with the beret. There was no credit. It's as if the documentary started several seconds into the actual film. He looks and sounds familiar and I'm wondering if I knew him from the San Diego magic scene in the 90's.
Whoever wrote the book, he should have known Houdini's cards moves since the famous Erdnase transformation was developed by Houdini years before the publication of the book. Do you concur?
@1:35:10--Why spell your name backwards when "...that isn't any way to successfully disguise a name..." But it was successful. The publisher had to tell people that it was spelled backwards. People weren't figuring it out.
Much as this book is considered by many THE book on card table magic, I do believe The Royal Road has had way more impact in terms of pedagogy and cardmanship.
$10 says it was actually a black gay trans woman with downs syndrome but everyone was too racist and closeted gay to realize her IQ was actually 1 billion

An amazing documentary. I really wish more people could appreciate this art.

Awesome. Didn't expect to watch the whole thing in one sitting but two hours later, here we are.
This is a phenomenal film!
Love everything about mysterious, old books!

Fabulous documentary. Well worth rewatching. 😊🎉😂😅❤
This was riviting, when I started the video I really did not expect to do the full 1.55, well presented and well researched. Thanks

Absolutely brilliant doc, enjoyed it from beginning to end.
This is a beautifully made reapectful documentary about magic, card expertise , enthusiasm and passion for finding things out and mystery.😊❤
Really great, the first good documentary on Erdnase I've seen. 💯
This was a fun watch! Thanks to everyone who put this together.
Very well done. Long live the mystery!

Artanis Bottom Deal is a great deal.

Truly facinating and very well done, but I think my vote goes to Edward Gallaway as the author. His case is very strong if you look him up.
That was great. Thank you!

Enjoyed this. 👏🏻
Anyone knows where can i buy this book in hardback ?
Without Dai Vernon we would not have the absolute master of cards that is Richard Turner.
more like this!
That was fucking awesome. Even bought a copy of Revelations, the second edition.
Eu muito desse tipo de mágica
The famous and hardest book in the world.

OK, everyone. How far did _you_ get before you started yelling, "Get on with it, already! Geeze!"

What about Wesley James?? He even filmed a full DVD tutorial which covers all the moves and tricks from the book.
Why beat around the bush? He’s George Santos. When George lowers his cameo price. I will prove it! Ty rudy, here’s an hour 44 out the window.
Everyone knows Erdnase was really Irma's grandfather
David Alexander's hypothesis sounds a bit like those "Illuminati confirmed" memes.
I like to think e.s. Andrew's was just dyslexic
Erdnase died on a train with Kris Kristofferson.
ES Andrews
Es Andrew S
“is Andrew S”
Had anyone looked for an Andrew S.?
I agree with Andy The Jerx. "Expert at the Card Table" compared to today's publications is trash.....
Anyone else deeply unsettled by the gray guy who talks like an alien?

$10 says the writer's a woman who perfected her technique and showmanship but, the era being what it was, was refused gigs/representation.
Problem is the illustrations are done from real life and those are obviously the hands of the male. The illustrator also confirmed that he is a man.

Excellent documentary!
