I have both types. I agree the Black Rapid is more bulky so don't tend to use it whn travelling, preferring instead to use the Peak Design. I find the Black 'rapid strap more comfortable when carrying my DSLR with a long lens and I feel it has a more secure fitting as I'm quite security conscious. Other than that they both have their advantages in my view. Great video by the way!
Good comparison, and still valid in 2022. I gotta say, I don't understand the hype around the Peak Design strap. Having to rotate the entire strap along with the camera starts to feel annoying over time, and flipping the strap around to get some traction when you want it is awkward. The anchors are good, but now they're permanently attached to your camera, sticking out like unclipped guitar strings, and I find they get in the way of things, especially when you're using your camera without the strap. When you're active, the anchor system twists and tugs on the strap. Even just walking, it's something I found myself constantly being aware of and thinking about. The BlackRapid on the other hand slides effortlessly along the strap on its own, which feels much more natural and easy. The camera and carabiner is able to rotate freely, independent of the strap. The whole system kind of disappears from your mind and you can focus on your work. And it's just as easy (if not easier) to unclip. BlackRapid with good D-Rings for your existing mounts is the way to go.
I can see your points as well Jared! I enjoyed mine when I had it as well. I guess it all boils down to personal preference. I don't like how the anchors stick out either. Thanks for checking out my video though!
Black Rapid strap with Peak Design anchors would be perfect. The BR may be bulkier but it’s actually padded. And it comes with a storage bag too. What might be the winner is the new BR strap with the Magpul quick-release fittings that work on RRS plates. Just snap in one time, one place.
The BR strap with the PD anchors would be sweet. I did like the padding on the BR strap. I'll have to check out that new Magpul quick-release fittings! Thanks for checking out my video! 😊
I just made nearly the exact same switch! I had a BlackRapid Sport strap since 2010. I just got a Peak Design Slide (ash color too, looks great and better than everything always black). I find it so much more stable because the Slide's two points of contact compared to the BlackRapid's single point. Peak Design did a great job with this new version of the Slide!
I have the Peak but with the padded strap and it too falls off my shoulder when I lift my camera...like your Black Rapid did. I might have to change it to the one you have, but then I lose the soft cushion. Because the padding is stiff, it (usually) ends up around my waist. I wish there was a combo strap, with the best of both worlds. I like the idea of the sliding BR, but love the anchors of the Peak. Nice video.
Thanks. Use now the Peak Design Slide Black. For my two Nikon F5. my two Nikon D4 and for my two Nikon Z9. For that i use the BlackRapid for a long time. Why so many cameras because i use different Nikon 85mm lenses. Have more lenses but i use the 85mm the most. Than the 105mm than the 135mm.
I just bought a Slide LT. Man, I love this strap, everything about it. I replaced a security sling and the factory strap that came with my Fuji X-T2 with it. I can't recommend it enough. Great video!
Just ordered the Slide . Hope it's not too big for my XT-2 :-) The strap that comes with the XT-2 is not very comfortable I found especcially in summer it scratches and hurts your skin.
@@acousticsong-guitarco964 I don't think it will be "too big", but the thinner Leash seems too small to me, so I think you're good. I rarely take mine off my X-T2 and actually wear it more because it's so convenient and comfortable. I wanted to like the Fuji strap, and it's better than many kit straps, but I hated taking the strap on and off. Peak makes really nice stuff, and I think Ronnie did a great job of showing that. Now if they could make guitar straps...... :)
With the black rapid I use a plate with a d-ring. Then you font need the quick release plate. Only a little bit more difficult to unmount and mount again
One year later this is still my favorite strap. I have added two more, for another camera and binoculars. The easy connect/disconnect system makes these straps super convenient. So lucky to have found your video last year.
Great video I have this system and I have to say it’s the best strap and anchor system I have ever used what a fantastic design. I use this system with the thicker strap with my D4s-D500 with 300mm 2.8 or 500mm F4 with no problem.
Hey Thanks a lot Shaun! Have to say I am still loving this system very much! I love that I can switch to different cameras so easily too. Good to know it can work with even heavier set-ups using the thicker strap! Thanks for checking out the video. 😊
I have also both systems and use both. What i dont like about the slide is that when you detach the camera the strap is not "closed" anymore and it can just slide of and the ends dangle around. I attached one of the ankers to one of the ends so i can click that in to the other end to close it when the camera is not on
Nice set up. But, consider a Kirk or RRS plate or L Bracket. They both have a QD quick release connector. Straps with the required connector are available. Go from strap to tripod with ease.
Thanks for video. I already had a black rapid rs 7 and just got a peak design clutch cL 3 and was looking for a way how both could work out. Thanks for ur video I now attach a monfrotto base plate to my black rapid and everything is as I need
Thank you for a wonderful video! I too am ready to leave my Black Rapid strap behind. Don't trust the Black Rapid RS-Sport 2 "Slim" Sling Camera Strap with BRAD, ConnectR-2 & FastenR-3 . Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. The first one broke and my camera and lens came crashing to the sidewalk and needed repaired. Black Rapid did pay for the repair and replaced the strap. After lightly using the second one, the connector pin slipped through the socket and came apart. Black Rapid said their one year warranty does not cover what they called normal wear and tear. Due to two failures, and the company's failure to replace the second broken strap, I cannot recommend the product.
I'm a working photojournalist with a daily news media outlet: I like Black Rapid products, they are made well, however the slide models such as the RS 7 become awkward and cumbersome after a certain time of use - having to constantly reset the bulky shoulder pad across the shoulder becomes a drag. - like shown in this video. The bottom tripod mount catchment work great with rain covers such as Aquatech. Looking at the Peak Design, I may give it a try but it is overpriced considering webbing and clips are not expensive to begin with, but hey, every company wants a super-sized profit margin - the strings attaching the Peak Design strap to the camera rings look insufficient and would probably break or frey easily with extreme use - walking around like a tourist it should be ok. Currently, I use simple Tamrac (N17) anti-slip/quick release strap for two cameras, its time to replace with something similar - not available anymore which is a shame because they have functioned great. Thanks for the awesome review and comparison.
Thanks so much for stopping by and checking out my video! Thanks for sharing your thoughts as well. Always good to see read about other opinions and experiences. Cheers!
Thanks for the review! One thing you didn't mention was the comfort of the slide strap. How does it compare to the black rapid? Do you wish you would've got the regular slide vs the slide lite? I prefer the narrower slide lite, but is it comfortable enough for a full size DSLR and long lens?
Hi there! Thanks for checking out my video! For comfort, I actually find the Slide Lite to be much more comfortable than the BlackRapid. And I don't wish that I would have gotten the regular Slide at all. I have used it with my D850 with a lens as big as the 70-200mm F2.8 II and had no issues at all. The slide lite is still my go to camera strap at the moment. Hope that helps!
Good stuff. I also used the BlackRapid strap back in the day. Am thinking to upgrade and found this video. I subscribed, so I'm looking forward to seeing your other content.
Nicely done, pal!! I'm using UpStraps right now, but occasionally still use my BlackRapids, especially my Double Breathe strap for events. Oh, and for anyone having that tripod mounting problem with the BlackRapid, the FastenR Tripod screw or their Tripod Plate solve that problem! Love the size of the Peak Design, I'll have to check that out!
There is a connector made. by Black Rapid similar to the usual connector to the strap, only it retracts when attached to the Bogen tripod via its quick release. It costs an extra $25, lol.
Hi Hans, I have not tried it with a backpack myself but I'm sure if you had your back pack on you can just put it on top and should work. 🙂 Thanks for checking out my video!
Ronnie, thanks for your review. I also have the D850 with 70-200mm lens. Do you feel the Peak Design anchor clips are designed so that they will not come loose from the anchors? Will the string/cord material stay anchored into the design and not come out? Thankyou!
Hi there! Thank you for checking out my video. Yes there is a satisfying click that lets you know the anchors are secure. :) I've never had issues with it coming out at all.
I dont like the thin straps that come with my Nikon Z6ii, they twist far too much, and they get in the way when I want to use a tripod, and the Z6ii and a lens is quite heavy when out walking up a hill. So I am going to buy one of those Peak Design slides, I'll probably go for the wider one.
@@RonnieRabena They are great. I have the wider one for my Z6ii and the thinner one for my Zfc. I always feel great with them round my neck. And they d nto get twisted up like the straps that came with the camera.
Cancelled my Black rapid due to the reports of people having the bottom anchor unscrewing itself as they walked. Too risky for me. Ordered the peak design slide strap due to it directly connecting to my Sony a6400s sides instead of needing to attach the bottom.
@@RonnieRabena came in today and it actually looks more stylish in real life. If i had to be picky, the bad for the strap could have been better because you can't lock the string when you tighten it. Very happy with it. Have the hook thing on my eos rp and 7dmk2 for the one strap.
Thanks for a great video! I have a question regarding the difference between the two PD straps. The regular slide has some padding according to PD's website (maybe it's woven in?). Does the Slide lite have the same padding?
Hi there, The Slide and the Slide Lite are pretty much identical. The regular Slide is just wider. They both have a rubber grip on one side in the central area of the strap to prevent slipping when it's on your shoulder. Not sure about any extra padding on the regular Slide. It has not affected comfort for me though and I use the Slide Lite with a heavy Nikon D850.
I was watching a new video from Peak Design that they posted just a few months ago, and they are now selling this strap with version 4 anchors. They say the strings are much thicker and more stable. B*H ( store ) still selling the older V3 anchors even at this point, until their stock runs out. ( disappointing I will admit ) Peak Design though supposedly will send you out the newer V4 anchors if you purchase and get V3 models.
Just out of Curiosity why do you put you Camera on a Tripod? we shoot Weddings and Special events and never use a Tripod its pretty fast paced we don't have time and have been using the BlackRapid with Nikon D750 & D810 with 85mm 24-70mm & 70-200mm with out any issue we use Sony mirrorless for video without any straps of course on gimbals tripods mono pods etc...
Hi There, I will put it on the tripod on studio shoots and when I'm doing any long exposures such as shooting stars or northern lights. I will also use a tripod for some video work. The BlackRapid is a great strap and used it for a long period. I just needed something more like the Peak Design strap for my style. 🙂
It seems to me if you don't use an L-Bracket you have the same issue. I guess you could attach to both upper connections then, but it seems like the camera would not sit stable on your hip then. Of course my answer could be to get an L-Bracket, but that's just adding more weigh to an already heavy camera. I'm conflicted, but I'm still using my D750 strap and that thing has got to go.
There are different types of custom plates that allow for the red quick release button to attach to. Here is another alternative - ruclips.net/video/6j1cU2CYGcM/видео.html :)
I have a black rapid and dislike how I have to screw it in the bottom. I really like the Peak Design strap, just not sure if to buy the slide or slide lite. I have a Mark IV with a 50mm, 24-70mm and in the near future I’ll be purchasing a 70-200. Please help!
E PM Hey man! Thanks for checking out my video! For me I use the lite with a Nikon D850 with a 24-70mm and find great! I like the thinner strap. I highly recommend it. If you want a thicker strap then definitely go with just the Slide.
Hey Tyler! Thanks so much for checking out my video and the kind words! Let me know what you think of the Peak once you get it 😊 I still have mine and still love it. Cheers!
Create & Appreciate, love that line. Great video, been considering which Peak Design strap to get, but the Slide Lite seems like a good choice. Is it comfortable enough for an avarage size DSLR?
A nice review! I use both straps. For Blackrapid, you can also attach the strap to a BlackRapid FastenR Tripod FR-T1, and use the T1 to attach a suitable plate in the bottom of the camera! BTW, what was the plate in your camera bottom with the Peak Design strap, visible at 7:40 of your video?
Hi Seppo! Thank you! Thanks also for that tip! That plate is just a mount for the strap if you aren't able to attach it to the plate somehow. I had issues finding a place on my L bracket so I used it there. 😊
Nice comparison video. I don't have either strap but I am considering the Peak Design Slide Lite (it's for a Sony a7iii so the Lite should be enough) and I've got a very nice Carry Speed (I'm guessing the FS-Slim Prime MKiii) right now. It's a comfortable, nice slide and feels solid. It looks a little bit like the BlackRapid. But it's quite big and since I switched from my Canon 70D to the smaller Sony I rarely use it and prefer the Peak Design Cuff. For going on trips it might be nice to have a comfortable strap that's not too big and can be easily detached. This is a nice video that goes over the pros and cons of both systems! The only worry that I have it the comfort level of the PD Slide. It doesn't have a soft, stretchy bit at the shoulder so doesn't it eventually start to hurt after one day with a heavier setup? Even my Sony a7iii with a 24-240mm lens has some decent weight.
Hey there! Thanks for checking out my video! In terms of comfort, I have never ever noticed it being uncomfortable, even when there is a heavier lens. Part of the discomfort in some other straps that I have used is that it would slip off when I am just carrying it on my shoulder. Peak's grip on the one side of the strap really works great in preventing the strap from sliding off my shoulder. If you decide to get it, let me know what your final thoughts are!
What if you're wearing a jacket and a backpack? From autumn to spring I always have the strap inside my jacket and I'm not sure this would work with all the friction.
Yes it might be difficult to wear inside a jacket, in that case maybe the original strap might work better. Thanks for checking out my video! Let me know what you end up using!
I thought I was the only one with issues with the Black Rapid strap falling off my shoulder and having to re adjust each time I put the camera down! Even with the Black Rapid Sport which does have the extra strap to go under the left arm, the strap still lifts up off my shoulder. It could also be due to the fact that I am using a CAMS plate to attach to the strap but it's still really really annoying!!
I totally agree! I found it very annoying as well. I also thought I was the only one with the issue because no one else had mentioned it. It hasn't happened to me yet with the Peak Design Slide. 😊
Yeah I love the design of the Peak Design strap, I'm just a fan of the anchor links (for my purpose) Only reason I've stuck with my Black Rapid is because I wouldn't be able to use the CAMS plate on Peak Design I kind of miss my Spider Holster though, should have maybe stuck with that system :( But GREAT video!
I got this over the original only because it was smaller. The original one would probably work better if you are carry very large lenses most of the time. I believe the Slide is slightly more comfortable as well.
I'm thinking about it too. On sale now at Adorama. That tripod issue with the BR has been bothering me for years...also the moving shoulder pad is annoying.
Instead of using the plate attached to your L bracket, just attache the slide lock between the L bracket and the camera around the mounting screw. Works perfectly.
You can buy this screw: www.amazon.com/BlackRapid-RFH-1E0-Fastenr-Tripod-FR-T1/dp/B0049H89F8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1525460585&sr=8-1&keywords=blackrapid+manfrotto You screw it in a manfrotto plate and keep it always on the camera, to use the tripod you just need to release the carabiner.
This was a great review but I believe that you were missing an accessory which seem sort of bias. While looking at your setup of the Black Rapid, I notice that it didn't look like the other reviews that I saw of the same exact product. I believe that you were missing what was referred to as the (Brad Accessory) I also believe the Brad Accessory eliminates the issue that you were having at 3:53 of your product review. I'm not leaning towards any one particular product but I would have to rate this as an incomplete and not a full review. You still get a thumbs up.
Thanks for the props Kerwyn. You are correct in the fact that I did not have the Brad Strap in this Review. I was just trying to review both straps without having to add extras. But definitely a fair point. Thank you!
Hi! slide lide is stong enough for holding your d850 with a bigger lens? 70200 etc. As i see slide version is padded.. you dont miss this comfort from lite version with the big body? thanks!
Hey Gergő Szűcs, For me, I just find the regular Slide too wide. I haven't missed any extra padding so far with the lite so far. What strap are you using at the moment? Thanks for viewing my video by the way! 😊
Thanks for your answer Ronnie :) i bought yesterday one balckrapid sport breathe and a wrist strap for my D850. BUT. Carabiner is big and clapping on the boddy (could be noisy etc in the curch), and im not sure 1point hanging gonne be good for the batterygrip later. Anchors looks more confortable and lighter, and has more variations for use. With blackrapid its not confortable riseing the camera above your head.. but for normal shooting position is great how the carabiner slides in the leash without moveing the strap around your body. thats why i thought its better instead of the peak design which mooves in every direction.. but in your video ot looks moves smoothly...

So I am going to buy one of those Peak Design slides, I'll probably go for the wider one.
How do you like it??
@@RonnieRabena They are great. I have the wider one for my Z6ii and the thinner one for my Zfc. I always feel great with them round my neck. And they d nto get twisted up like the straps that came with the camera.
Cancelled my Black rapid due to the reports of people having the bottom anchor unscrewing itself as they walked. Too risky for me.
Ordered the peak design slide strap due to it directly connecting to my Sony a6400s sides instead of needing to attach the bottom.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who worries about my BR unscrewing itself. Ordered the PD for this very reason.
just ordered Peak Design Black Slide Camera Strap SL-BK-3 (Black) should come in tomorrow. Can't wait to replace my Canon RP strap. I
Awesome, let me know how you like it!
@@RonnieRabena came in today and it actually looks more stylish in real life. If i had to be picky, the bad for the strap could have been better because you can't lock the string when you tighten it. Very happy with it. Have the hook thing on my eos rp and 7dmk2 for the one strap.
@@bedevere007 I totally agree! I wish you could lock the strap as well. Maybe the next version, lol.
Great video. Very informative.
Thanks a bunch! Cheers!
That is true. I previously had the V3s and they sent me the V4 anchors free of charge 😊
@@RonnieRabena Hi Ronnie ! ah that's good to hear ! Thank you for letting me and others know !
@@FrostyTheBeerMan No problem at all! I have now included it in the description of this video. Thanks for bringing it up. Cheers!
Great review, thanks!!!
Hey Thanks Paulo! Appreciate you checking out the video!
Ronnie Rabena, thank you for the reply! I just ordered the slide because of the padding. I appreciate it
Hey no worries at all! :-)
Great review Ronnie. I'm getting this.
Awesome Joakim! Let me know what you think of it! 😀😀😀
Great video brotha, been looking for a new strap and I think I'll go with the Peak after watching this video.
Heyy, Thanks so much for checking out my video! I use the Slide Lite with a Nikon D850 DSLR with no issues at all. Hopefully that helps you! 😊
Let me know what you end up using!
great review...just ordered mine also in grey color. thanks.
Thank you for taking the time to watch! Much appreciated! Cheers Efrain!
Yeah I love the design of the Peak Design strap, I'm just a fan of the anchor links (for my purpose)
Only reason I've stuck with my Black Rapid is because I wouldn't be able to use the CAMS plate on Peak Design
I kind of miss my Spider Holster though, should have maybe stuck with that system :(
But GREAT video!
may be you should use extrastrap cross over body and not over same arm where main strap is?
Useful review....thanks!
Thanks for checking out my video Jonathan! I'm glad it was useful to you. Cheers!
I've been using the lite strap too, love it! It looks like you've got the v3 anchors. Did you get the notification about the v4 update for those?
Hey! Thanks for watching, I just recently heard about the update. I'll be getting the V4s right away 😊
Any good reason to get this over the original slide?
I got this over the original only because it was smaller. The original one would probably work better if you are carry very large lenses most of the time. I believe the Slide is slightly more comfortable as well.
Keep up the good work.
Moving to Slide Lite now.. from Black Rapid simply because of the tripod issue.. Great vid.
Thanks man Much appreciated! I am still enjoying the Slide Lite immensely.
I'm thinking about it too. On sale now at Adorama. That tripod issue with the BR has been bothering me for years...also the moving shoulder pad is annoying.
Nice !
Cool, Thanks
No problem! Thanks for watching!
Instead of using the plate attached to your L bracket, just attache the slide lock between the L bracket and the camera around the mounting screw. Works perfectly.
Steve Awesome thanks for the tip man!
Of course! Great review by the way!
Thank you! Really appreciate it Steve!
Great review
Thank you! Really appreciate it.
Nice
What is the amount you have on your camera when using the Peak Design Slide Strap?
I have used a Nikon D850 with a Nikon 70-200mm F2.8 II with the Peak Design Slide Strap.
@@RonnieRabena I wanted to know that mounting bracket you had that allowed you to hook up the strap too?
@@servispg Oh Sorry Mike, I misread your comment. I used a small generic arca swiss quick release system. Just bought mine off of Amazon.
This is NOT the RS7, I can’t find your model anywhere
You can buy this screw: www.amazon.com/BlackRapid-RFH-1E0-Fastenr-Tripod-FR-T1/dp/B0049H89F8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1525460585&sr=8-1&keywords=blackrapid+manfrotto
You screw it in a manfrotto plate and keep it always on the camera, to use the tripod you just need to release the carabiner.
Leonardo Varuzza Yes definitely! Mentioned it in the description 😊 Thanks for checking out my vid too. Cheers!
Gergő Szűcs Yes it is very smooth on my clothing. Very easy to move camera up and down. You should definitely try it! 😊
Hi Ronnie and what a Nice well Done Vary informative Video,,
QUESTION,
I Want to Go with The Exact Anchors Brand You have Already Proven Strength Tested.
THAT SAID...What Brand Are They Exactly? & Or Where Can i Be Sure To Buy These Exact Ones You Are Using?
AS I have Always SAID..a Process Or Setup What ever it May Be
IS Only as Good as Its Weakest LINK
And That Surely Applies Here :-)
THANKS In Advance,
Signed New Permanent SUBSCRIBER :-)
Thanks for the kind words! The legit brand is Peak Design. And you are right, I wouldn't use any imitation versions of the anchors. Really appreciate the support. If there are any videos you would like me to create. Let me know!
Are the anchors on the peak design strong enough?
What camera set up are you using? I used it with my Nikon D850 and 70-200mm F2.8 with no issues.
Ronnie Rabena, thank you for your quick response. Currently I’m using a Canon 5D Mark iii and my biggest lens is the 70-200 2.8
@@PeacefulMoments1844 The anchors won't have any issues holding that set up. You could get the regular one instead of the Lite Version if you want, as it's wider and could offer more comfort. Just make sure it has the latest version of the anchors. I believe there are 4. I think Peak Design will still replace any old anchors too, free of charge.
Ronnie Rabena, good deal! Thanks again 👍
@@PeacefulMoments1844 No problem! Thanks for checking out my video! 😊
Peak Design Slide Strap is no good for attaching to the tripod foot of a big telephoto lens. Black Rapid has that market covered.

Your title is replacing Black Rapid Strap to Peak Design then why you ever showed people how the Black Rapid Strap Work?
Hey Anthony, Thanks for checking out my video. I was just giving my reasons for switching. It wasn't meant to be a full out comparison. Lots of videos showing how to use a Black Rapid Strap.
As someone who hasn't bought a third-party strap yet, I enjoyed him giving a quick overview of the Black Rapid strap :)
looks like it is super easy for thief to snap and run or cut and run this anchors
severgun same for any strap. So what’s your point?
