      If you watch closely, when Appa arrives in Ba Sing Se, two of the pygmy pumas are on a roof and saw him. Those two plus another are the same ones that guided Momo to Appa's footprint. Also they are symbolic of the guardians of the underworld/afterlife.

    Just a note about iroh voice actor. The new voice actor doesn’t come in until book 3, Mako completed voicing season 2 before he died, it’s just that tales of ba sing se was the last episode he recorded but not the last that he is in.

      I don't know why Avatar fans are like this. Most reactors that get bombarded with the news of Iroh's VA always end up thinking that he doesn't voice anything in the rest of book 2. ATLA fans either love to blatantly lie or are just blatantly bad at explaining things. And not just the Iroh thing.

    Hi guys. Enjoy your reactions. A few things:
    The circus was not in the city. He was sold to the fire nation. It. was likely in the Earth Kingdom but somewhere else under Fire Nation control. Maybe near Omashu or Heru's village or basically anywhere else they had conquered. Ba Sing Se is literally the last stronghold left from Fire Nation takeover so the rest of the Earth Kingdom is fair game to have a Fire Nation circus.
    Iroh does not know anything about Appa's whereabouts. He has no idea that Aang is in the city at this point nor does he know that the the and Appa have been separated. He and Zuko were on the ferry headed to Ba Sing Se when Appa flew in the opposite direction. He didn't want Zuko to know he had seen it and revert back to trying to capture the Avatar, thereby falling back into his obsession which would put them in more danger and derail their trip.

    Guys, you're over-thinking it/missing the point. The merchants had considered selling Appa to Ba Sing Se; but after the trouble he caused them, they decided to offload him somewhere close (the circus) instead.
    The circus wasn't in Ba Sing Se (Northeastern Earth Kingdom), but in the Fire Nation colonies in the Earth Kingdom (western region of the continent). Everyone in that circus audience was of Fire Nation ancestry (note the red clothing). The Fire Nation had invaded and taken those regions from the Earth Kingdom

    One thing I love about this episode is that it really showcases just how much Aang and Appa truly NEED each other. They (and Momo) are essentially their own little family unit (Same way Sokka and Katara are) and being separated messes with all of their psyche. It breaks my heart so much to know that all 3 are probably in constant fear for each other (Though Aang is the type to try not to let his pain and fear control him too much), especially after losing the rest of their people, it shows how much it impacted not just Aang but also Appa to not have any familiarity around. It also shows just a hint of what it must have been like for the other Air Nomads and Bison when the fire nation attacked, imagine all of them going through something similar to what Appa did, omg, really makes me wanna cry!

    Mako had finished voicing all of Book 2, before he passed, there are only 3 uncredited lines for the incoming voice actor in the book. People often say Tales of Ba Sing Se was the last episode he voiced, but that’s not accurate. It was one of the first episodes to be edited after his passing, and was the most appropriate to give tribute. It’s become common rumour that the episode was the last one he recorded due to the tribute being in that episode but it’s not actually correct.

    Mako did voice most of book 2, but you could already hear the new voice actor in some lines in Tales of Ba Sing Se. The new voice actor is Greg Baldwin, he is actually a voice double for Mako and took over Mako's parts in some other shows as well after his passing (e.g. Samurai Jack). The circus is not in ba sing se. After the escape attempt the beetle headed merchants decided just to go to a part of the earth nation that had been conquered by the fire nation (“the colonies” you’ll hear them referred to as later) because that area was closer to the desert than ba sing se, because they knew appa wouldn’t be calm the whole way to ba sing se

    To clarify for anyone who sees this and doesn’t know, Mako finished baseline recordings for S2, but dialogue can be added or changed after that and they bring the voice actors back. In this case, Greg Baldwin did that for Iroh as Mako died in between, so a few new or changed lines are Greg in S2, but most are still Mako.

  • @liprekt
    @liprekt Год назад +2

    Mako, Iroh's oiriginal voice actor, finished voicing Iroh in all of Book 2, I'm pretty sure. His new voice actor comes on in Book 3. The "In Honor of Mako" text was just put there because that was around the time Mako died, and it was the perfect scene to put it in.

    • @TukaihaHithlec
      @TukaihaHithlec Год назад +3

      The new actor takes over in Book 3, but is already voicing occasional lines in Book 2, even as early as Tales of Ba Sing Se. If you can’t hear the difference, you still know whenever Greg Baldwin is credited under “Additional Voices” that he voiced Iroh at least a bit in any given episode. Mako finished voicing most of Iroh, but some parts were added after his death. I think they always intended to have the scene with Iroh at Lu Ten’s grave, but it ended up being perfect for the tribute.

    To be clear, Appa's time in the Fire Nation circus was not his time in Ba Sing Se. We aren't exactly sure where he is but it wouldn't be crazy to assume Appa was in the Fire Nation at the time. The audience members and the vendors were clearly Fire Nation judging by their clothes, food, mannerisms, etc.
    However, recall that the Fire Nation has such power that they can just waltz right into any Earth Kingdom village and encounter little to no resistance. There are tons of Fire Nation colonies in the Earth Kingdom and over the course of the last 100 years there are even mixed families between the Fire Nation and Earth Kingdom if you can believe it. Ba Sing Se remains the only Earth Kingdom stronghold that has not fallen, and until it does, the Fire Nation cannot truly claim victory in the 100 year war. The Water Tribe might still be kicking but not only are they not a threat and are uninvolved in the war but they were dealt a serious blow at the end of S1 nonetheless. Nobody would call them an active member of the war.

    Here and in the swamp episode, we see very small (but badass) seeds being sewn of a very special type of bending. Energy bending. Only the most spiritual and most “in tune” people and beings can do it. It will pop up later also
    Pudgey as usual is correct about Iroh knowing the avatar and Appa are close by. They were sailing to Ba sing se in that scene. There is not a lot around ba sing se except the fire nation colonies, or the desert. And the eastern air temple way out in the mountains. So it’s not that hard to assume Iroh put two and two together and assumes the avatar / appa will be in ba sing se. It is also the biggest city in the world and the capital of the earth nation, so it’s easy to assume almost anyone you meet in that part of the world is going to ba sing se.

    Spartan wishing the sad scenes were more drawn out like in anime made feel like i need to give another reminder that this is a kid's show. Kids have a short attention span for sad things in shows, if they made this show for Spartan it'd just be another anime, but they didn't it's a kids show. I'm pretty sure it aired on Nickelodeon lol.

    There is allot of confusion but Mako did voice Iroh for all of season 2. Mako died while Book 2 was airing but he did finish all his lines weeks before in a studio.

    • @TukaihaHithlec
      @TukaihaHithlec Год назад +1

      This isn’t helping the confusion as most of Iroh’s lines are Mako but not all of them. Some lines were added after his death and are evidently voiced by his new actor.

    18:26 No, it's Sokka and Katara's father, Hakoda. I know you're referring to Bato, who was in the episode "Bato of the Watertribe" in Season 1. With the Shirshu animal tracking Aang and with the ladies with all the perfume. But Bato isn't their uncle, they don't have any aunts or uncles. He is their father's best friend, which in some cultures may be referred to as an uncle, but he is never called their uncle :)

    Guru Patik is voiced by prolific actor Brian George who usually plays fathers - he's in The Expanse, Deep Space Nine and The Big Bang Theory amongst other roles. If you want an older Indian/Pakistani gentleman, he's your guy! His role as the Guru is presumably a nod to the fact that Buddhism in China, Japan etc. is thought to have originated in India.

    I’ve wondered when the guru says Appa felt betrayed, does that mean Appa felt Suki betrayed him? There are plenty of times that show Appa understands human language, and even if not, surely he would understand that Suki wanted him to run.

      The show isnt afraid to explore the idea of someone understanding the logic behind something but still being hurt that it happened, especially later on in S3 Ep1, and I feel that could be what Appa feels about that.

      Mako does voice most of Iroh’s lines for the rest of Book 2, but there were some late stage changes to the script that were voiced by Greg. Just to help clarify. The idea that Mako voiced everything up to that episode then everything after is Greg is wrong on every level.

      @@TukaihaHithlec Oh man. After getting notified about you’re reply to me, I went ahead and started reading comments on the video for whatever reason and I’m VERY surprised that pretty much every comment I read was also clarifying he does finish S2 (well except for a couple lines I suppose? I didn’t know that till you said it.) Because this is the first time I’ve ever seen a comment section for this episode that’s not 98% of comments saying “Tales of Ba Sing Se” was the last time he voiced Iroh. And tbh I must’ve not read the comments to this video back when I made this original comment, I think I just assumed it was more of the same with the fans giving out wrong info to reactors. Lol So I suppose what I’m getting at is I’m pleasantly surprised to see so many comments trying to correct the record, this the first time I’ve seen that from the ATLA community and gives me some hope.
      (Lol Because in all honestly while I absolutely love ATLA, there’s a good degree of the fandom that drives me absolutely wild with how much either misinformation or head cannon that they like to state as facts to reactors… that and how often they will just spoil character archs for pretty much every character. *Specially* Zuko’s…)

      @@Austin.KilgoreNo worries lol I’m one of those fans who had every reason to watch when it was airing, but for some reason only finally watched recently. Unsurprisingly, I loved it! But I have noticed how weird some fans can be. I left that reply to you specifically because there’s one person in particular here insisting that the true events are wrong and that the common misinformation is correct. I just wanted to add another voice nudging anyone who reads this later in the right direction. If you e read some other comments, you likely already saw that Greg voiced Iroh in the ball through the window part in Tales of Ba Sing Se. As I recall, Mako is exclusively credited as Iroh for the remainder of the season, but when Greg is credited in additional voices it’s because he played Iroh at least a little in any given episode.

    EP 15 or Tales of Ba Sing Se is the last recording of Mako. The creator ask him in his deathbed if he want to record the episode, and he said yes. Before this, he already finished the recording of Book 2.
    another fact : In Tales of Iroh, when kids playing football and hit the big guy's window, that was Greg Baldwin, who voiced Iroh in book 3. They use his voice for that scene. Idk, maybe tricking fans that no changing of Iroh voice. Which did the trick.
