Keep doing it and your son will gain monumental knowledge. Great pair of guys who love each other to boot. I’d have loved to have been taught like this, up close to nature.

Absolutely wonderful teaching aid John. You and James could go around schools and show young kids what’s on their shores! Love the idea and James is so lucky to have a Dad like you! Well done mate, much appreciated. Graham👍👍👍🐟🦞
I live in literally the middle of the United States, and I'm starting to identify different types of species found along your coast. I'm glad I stumbled across your channel.
Absolute joy seeing parents spend time constructively with their children. Great video and I absolutely love to see when James is involved in your filming. Our family is looking forward to your next one.
This reminds me of a Marine Bio class I took in college, a bunch of students running around with notebooks and laminated guides trying to identify species! So much fun! Glad you and your son could get out and enjoy some tides today!
Riveting video, I was engrossed. I remember hearing a phrase many years ago that said something along the lines of, a subject of study is only as good as the teacher leading it. This is you! You have an infectious enthusiasm that make these videos a pleasure to watch.
This reminds me of being a kid at our holiday caravan near seahouses and bamburgh. Spent hours trailing the rock pools at low tide to see what I could catch. Usually small grabs and some cockles!
Great video John and James. Very intresting and educational. I have been using the tide times for several years now, useful for walking the dog. From what I've seen with my nephew the education system is diabolical. Wrapped up in red tape and health and safety. No longer allowed to play football incase someone gets hurt. 👍
Always a joy watching you and the family. Also you are always full of delightful information about your area for those of us on the other side of the pond. Thank you

What a wonderful little vid, young James really is a chip off the old block. I bet his teachers at school love hearing what he has been up to during a half term. 👍
I grew up in Hawaii and I'm not a big fan of opihi either 😝Loved investigating tidepools as a kid, this brings me back to those fun days on the shore. Great video!
I've just recently made exactly the same thing for my niblings! With stickers to stich in the squares. Good idea, getting them laminated. I used sticky back plastic (Blue Peter style, lol). Extra points for knowing which plants and animals are edible. Also an ice-cream prize for spotting an ice-cream van.
Aw to see James grow. You all are family goals. I wish you had a pic box to send a care package. I would love to send one to you guys from New Mexico. Not Mexico lol. In a way we have adopted him lol. ❤❤❤
Hello John! Greetings from Ontario, Canada. So refreshing to see young James outside and learning about the wonderful things that can be seen during low tide and high tide. Creating the Bingo game keeps kids focused and such a great idea. James just may be a botanist one day!!
Looks like great fun. Reminds me of a book that I had as a kid, that gave scores for different things we'd spotted in rock-pools, based on rarity... and btw, the pedant in me can't help pointing out that there's no such thing as a "Sea Gull". :)
What a brilliant idea! My Uncle and Mum (his baby sister fishing companion!) instilled in me a passion for all things of the sea, and I now love sharing what I love about nature and marine wildlife with my own three little monkeys. And there was me thinking I'll have to try Rockpool Bingo wifor them - I could get in touch and ask for a copy of the sheets - and of course you'd already thought of that! There can't be many other RUclips channels that actually make the world a better place. Thank you (and James) for everything you do. :-)

One of us would act as 'Dr Perry Winkle' as we led the children through the intertidal zone.
Yes, John...opihi are definitely an acquired taste!-lol...Also, another reason for different tasting shellfish/limpets could be because the Pacific/Atlantic oceans have different salinity levels, resulting in differing phytoplankton? Dunno maybe? Am just guessing!-lol...Good to see you/James running around in sunshine & dry reefs.... ALOHA
