    Maksim plays this piece incredibly well, far better than most pianists who just bang it out to try and sound impressive, Maksim plays firm, but not hard, and the instrumental backing is superb, as it compliments the piece without overshadowing the piano. Not many people realize that Maksim can play better than most classical pianists who attempt this song, and he plays it with such ease. An outstanding performance, modern classical music.

    i like the fact he went wild w/this piece. And the drummer is fabulous too. I like the interpretation.Maxsim's a fine pianist. He doesn't discredit any of the musicians whose compositions he plays. He plays with respect. The old masters would approve.

    Listen, to all of the people who think that this modernized composition by Maksim is crap, don't listen to it. The original version is out there for you to listen to. To be quite honest, I don't understand the hatred that is going around about Maksim and his modernized compositions, he knows how to make the original song thrive with life by adding his own style of playing, and having an altered if not similar orchestra playing along with him. The original was thriving with life too,and this too.

    If you love Chopin you should be happy and thankful that young artists are turning to him for inspiration. Creating&recreating on the work of others is part of our humanity and of our evolution as artists.Those who criticize are frustrated (or sitting at home doing nothing). Go out and give your contribution,get a life. Or go and listen to Martha Argerich and the others, there are plenty of classical versions. I will listen to everyone and enjoy each one for what they are.So shut up and enjoy!

    This talented musician is bringing classical music to people who would probably never consider going to a classical concert , and who because of his music , may consider doing so in the future . Those who critize his efforts are those elitists ( or think they are ) think classical music should only be performed in its purest form . My advice to those people , If you don't like it , don't listen to it . As my Mother used to say , if you cannot say anything nice about someone , say nothing ..

    Exactly, and Maksim is perfectly able to play the original piece. He has won classical contests. How many people approach classical music by other ways (ex : TV, marketing at TV for goods etc) without knowing that it comes from classical one ? Maksim has found certain fans, he has right to propose other things, and this interpretation proves that Chopin was not so a "has been" compositor. It's the same thing when Pavarotti sung classical music using modern version. Who critizes him ?

    Merely a matter of perception. I personally like that he merged this piece into a collaborative effort instead of just another solo rendition of the same freaking song that geniuses like Horowitz have already dominated.

    lol@ negative comments. Sit back comfortably without being infront of an audience while they listen for one wrong note. Performance isn't about technical perfection. If it was, there'd be WAY more people up on stage. This is an arrangement if you can't think of anything better to say. Chopin is dead. This guy brings his stuff back to life. I don't think Chopin would be complaining.

  • @Ewoutersen
    @Ewoutersen 14 лет назад

    I disagree with the people who say that Maksim is an average pianist. Sure his orchestra does a lot of the work at this concert, but technically he is really good. If you watch his version of the Bumble-Bee you will see what I mean. That, the passion he has for his music and the whole entourage makes him a great musician.

  • @datmpham

    To all of you classical purists...don't come here to expect your "pure" version of the piece. This is how an artist changes the music to bring it to his own audience. You don't have to be in it .. just respect the joy that he bring to his audience. You can go listen to your more pure, more obscure classical pianist.. right? you probably have a stricter requirement for what you would enjoy or not.. well.. more power to you. Just Go ... don't bother espousing your authority here. No one listens !

    I don't understand why people think that classical pianos by Chopin, Beethoven, Liszt, and Mozart (mostly these, but not limited to these composers), should only be played as solo piano EXACTLY the way the composer wrote them! Geez give these people a break! They make a great rearrangement of them!!

    Music evolves in every generation . I read the top comment here and I think he is a narrow-minded person . You don't use your eyes to judge a musical masterpiece . You have to use your ears, heart, and your soul . If you can't accept the fact that he can play a masterpiece that is not like the ones that you traditonally knew then go listen to a record disk .

  • @Ichigo411
    @Ichigo411 15 лет назад

    you all say maksim is a horrible piano player and you hate his work, but I think that you're being close-minded here. I play piano and I love his work. There's nothing wrong with taking old songs and modernizing them, it takes skill to do that.
    If you must hate the work then don't put down the piano player, he didn't arrange the work. he plays the original versions of all these songs, you can see them on youtube. Listen to some of his other works that aren't remakes of old classical pieces.

    Dude as much as I think it is kind of a disgrace to Chopin, I think this is pretty freakin sweet. I never thought Id say this but I love the keyboard echo of the exposition/main theme. The magic about art is that it cant be confined to standards or rules or w/e. That was the whole point of Romanticism (beginning with Beethoven). It's about breaking the rules, breaking trends, and just going with it.

  • @RandyDandy114
    @RandyDandy114 12 лет назад +1

    I like the way he expresses himself (including what he wears) and I like how he plays. He can dress and play however he wants. He's classically trained but also plays crossover and changes the music to his will. You can't please everybody no matter how good you are. So if you don't like it, quit complaining and don't watch. He's definitely better than you though ;)

  • @PugzM
    @PugzM 15 лет назад

    When you buy any classical pianist's CD of recordings of classical composers music, you are buying THEIR version/interpretation of that piece of music. They aren't making any claims to it being their original composition, simply their interpretation. Plenty of other pianists include their own improvisations in classical works and that's essentially no different from what Maxim is doing here. The beauty of having this freedom is that he can play it how he likes and you can choose not to listen.

  • @Randomnessk

    @zdlrrebel I agree! Compositions are to be played with, not shut away behind bulletproof glass so that we can only gaze upon them. If this performance is part of what the arranger felt when he read the original music, more power to him for putting it out there and trying to reach a broader audience. Some people today might like this, but not care so much for the original, or they simply may not know Chopin. This does not degrade Chopin's work in any way, in fact it potentially brings new fans.

  • @nihilistism

    This is why classics should remain just that, classics. works of art like this should be cherished not decimated. But unfortunately in this society we must "update" things that are out of date, they cant be left alone for the sake of the true musical experience. If chopin intended his song to be heard like this he would have wrote it this way.

    Absolutely right! All the great composers improv'd and made translations of existing works in their time, early covers if you will. Chopin, as a great example, was seen as HIGHLY controversial in his time but with retrospect we appreciate him as a phenomenal artist. Maksim will very possibly be regarded as such, we just don't know yet. Listen, Learn & Love, dear people, there is so much beauty in the world if we will only tune into it.

    Every piece of art is liable to the viewer's opinion. Even the composer would have been smug playing his piece. If you can play the piece, you have something to be proud of. It's easy to judge a pianist but unless you're the one on the chair, facing the piano, the view is very much different. Maksim is introducing the classics in a way to ensure the younger generation learn to appreciate it like him. If he doesn't play for himself and enjoy it, how can he expect others to feel the same?

For too many people, classic is regarded as a difficult genre and very exclusive music. If Maksim didn't rearranged revolutionary etude and played it, how can people easily encounter 'classic'?

    I can lighten up perhaps your right. The thing of it is is that there are people writing good classical music in our modern times. Our society doesn't like "complex" music.
    Chopin, Liszt, Beethoven, whomever... They would not have written classical music. And if they did no one would listen to it. They all probably would have been Jazz musicians and been poorer and less famous in modern times than they were in their day.

And it was a huge disrespect to the public. until such time they accepted it. so i think MAXIM did this just like any other composers have done before. Especially about the whole-tone and twelve-tone scale. MAXIM just wants us to hear a bit different kind of music and interpretation. NO OFFENSE TO EVERYONE OUT THERE

    i don't get why everyone should negatively judge his style just because it's different. Ok it's a classic chopin etude we all know that and i guess if not all, most people have heard the classical version.
    Well that's a different version which combines classical and techno.Don't listen to it if you don't like it and I bet his technique is beter than yours.Also, why does everyone think that every virtuoso pianist should wear a tuxedo? Maksim's got a different style. Like it or not, that's it.

    Let me ask all you hateful posters a question. When you sit down to play a piece such as this, what do you see? What do you feel? If you do not see or feel anything but the notes and annotations on the page, then you've no business saying this musician's take on the piece is an abomination or a crime. If you don't like it, don't listen to it. There's no sense in being a jerk.
    Obviously there are people that like his take on it, otherwise there wouldn't be a video.
