      No one calls a backflip a 360 but a backflip counts as 360 degree rotation.
      For example a backside rodeo 5 is basicly a backflip(360) with an added 180 which makes it a 540.
      Same cocept for the quad underflip.....

    • @cole_butter
      @cole_butter 9 лет назад +1

    • @smaug86
      @smaug86 7 лет назад +1

      You can't count vertical flips as horizontal spins. That's basic physics. That would be like calling a double kickflip in skateboarding a 720 shove-it. It's a quad backflip 180. Nothing more.

    • @cz1239
      @cz1239 7 лет назад

      But its not skateboarding. Its snowboarding, and thats how they calculate rotations. I didn't make the rules.

    • @ST19859
      @ST19859 Год назад

      @@cz1239 Thats not how they calculate rotations though except in circles that want to sound more impressive. "Rotations" on a snowboard means on the yaw axis, period, thats how its been done as long as boardings been around. Also this is not an underflip, its a backflip plain and simple, just 4 of them and a late 180

    Yeah its a quad backflip but not a 1620. That really does not count as rotations. Look at the board. Its not spinning at all. I mean its somehow a little bit corked but no spins.

    • @ImTweeZy
      @ImTweeZy 7 лет назад +9

      no because when you count ehse king od rotation you have to add 360 for every flip too :) so you're right it's either a quadruple backflip 180 or it's a quadruple 1620 underflip ( 360x4 + 180 )

    • @fredericlaviolette5041

      Freestyle snowboarding and newschool freestyle skiing count rotations in a bizarre way. Flip counts as spins if you use certain trick names like ''rodeo'' and ''underflip''. Also, Shaun White's double McTwist is not 2 McTwists chained together. It's more of a McTwist to Rodeo or something. Snowboarding seriously has the worst nomenclature. I remember having many debates about trick names. The thing is, we were all correct. This is a Quad Underflip 1620, a Quad Eggroll 180, a Quad Backflip 180... Just depends where you grew up.

    Holy fuck the amount of people who have no idea what they're talking about makes me cringe. Doing a backflip is a 360 degree rotation vertically, as opposed to the tradition "360" which is horizontal. Therefore, 360x4=1440, plus the 180 making it an underflip, adds to a total of 1620. It's painful to see how many people complain that it's not a 1620 because they didn't see him spin.

  • @abc123prichardgmail
    @abc123prichardgmail 9 лет назад

    @Justin Jones you couldn't be more wrong. I'm a skier and I still get it. If you do an underflip five, did you really do a five? Yes. 360 degrees of flip with a one eighty. All max did was four 360 degree flips with a 180 at the end. Common core leads me to believe that equals 1620.

    So much debate as to what this trick is/should be called. I think we can be fairly safe in saying it's not a 'cork' as that is more difficult and as such would be included within the description + a corked underflip would probably look like an out of control helicopter. So, if it's not corked, what two different x4 rotations are happening to warrant them both being described separately?

    Anyone else like to talk about physics and reality and know that he is just spinning on the Yaw Axis by 90* frontside - Then performing 4 backflips "pitch" (snowboarders call underflips) - Then doing another 90* on the Yaw and landing.....
    Anyone else see the problems here with uneducated people thinking he spins on two different axis at the same time??
    Sorry to burst the bubble. But his left arm shows the entire trick... Meaning he never changed position on the Yaw Axis.....

    • @hawkintelligence
      @hawkintelligence 7 лет назад

      NO one wants to comment, after a sport scientists says it's 100% bullshit calling this a Quad Underflip 1620"? lol okay.. It's like all the stoners can't think or something.

      @scottphaneuf3426 7 лет назад +1

      But if you follow the tail end of the board it looks as if it does 4 full rotation. It does look a little weird but each flip counts as a 360 and he ends the trick with an 180.

    • @hawkintelligence
      @hawkintelligence 7 лет назад

      I'll teach you..
      www.tech-mp.com/TH-2_manual_figures/FC_AXIS.gif
      www.snowboard-coach.com/Snowboarding-Tricks.html
      So, moving down hill in your stance. Means that you are twisting at the waste to look forward, while your feet are (left foot front, right foot back). Your body is following the x axis.
      So when he Hits the ramp, his right foot rotates to be parallel to his left foot. Putting his board perpendicular to the movement. (like when you stop, you twist the board to the frontside or backside to catch the lip in the snow to slow yourself or stop)
      So he Twisted his body on the Z axis, which is a frontside 90* spin, to get his body so that his front is facing down range. He does NOT spin more than 90*, he stays at this exact Zaxis and then Rotates on the Xaxis to do 4 backflips.... That's all he is doing. He did a frontside 90, into a quad backflip rotation, never spinning on the Zaxis again, until right before his landing, to finish another 90* for a total of 180* spin on the Zaxis....
      That's why you can see his Army patch and nose the WHOLE time when he is spinning, becuase he is ONLY spinning on ONE axis............. Sports Science.

    • @scottphaneuf3426
      @scottphaneuf3426 7 лет назад +1

      Oh my, I was just looking at the tail end of the board the whole time. But you're right when looking at the patch the whole time it just means that he only finished the 180 at the end. It is still a very impressive trick though. I wonder why the whole monster snowboarding team is recognizing it as a 1620...

    • @hawkintelligence
      @hawkintelligence 7 лет назад

      Because most riders are literally stupid when it comes to education and common knowledge. So to make it more exciting, they name the trick twice, then pretend it's more than what it really is.. :D
      It's a Quad Backflip, still cool, but has been done back in the 60's. :D

    There was nothing 1620 about that. I feel like you have to spin to claim 1620. There was no more spinning in this than in a regular underflip, so it's a quad 540 (actually a quad backflip 180).
    No one would be that excited about a quad backflip, but you throw in a 180 and suddenly it's a legit quad?

      Æzen everybody expects something different if they read 1620. Trick names are rubbish in snowboarding. But this trick is still sick! It doesnt matter how the trick is called. If u take it very serious, he did a 90° at the takeoff :)

    • @IdeasAboveStation
      @IdeasAboveStation 9 лет назад +1

      ***** Yea, I don't really like it either tbh. I think it'd be better just leaving out any call on degrees if there's no horizontal part to a trick. There's only ever multiples of 360 you can throw in a flip trick... unless you wanna face plant the landing haha. So yea, I'd prefer just callin em dub, triple or quad flips if that's all they do. Same with cork spins. Call the degree they do horizontal + cork, or dub cork, etc if they put in some vertical spin. Though it doesn't seem to be the way they count em.

    • @IdeasAboveStation
      @IdeasAboveStation 9 лет назад

      Tyler Hildebrand Well yea, but you did see rotation. 4 x 360 vertical (flip) rotations and a 180 = 1620. I think it's fair to give it the 1620 title. Rotation is just in a different axis to a 'standard' spin.

      With off-axis or inverted spins you count the degrees of spin on all axes. So each flip is 360. It's easier to see and understand from less inverted ones like a cork. This is why there is no rodeo 180; it starts at rodeo 5

      +ScottWarnerMusic How?

    • @ScottWarnerMusic
      @ScottWarnerMusic 8 лет назад +1

      tompatompsson In every other sport which names tricks based on rotation, rotations along the vertical axis are counted separately from the horizontal axis. A flip is a flip, a 360° is a 360°. In skateboarding if the board flips once, and rotates horizontally once it's a 360 kickflip. In diving, if a person flips twice forwards landing in a dive and spins once it's a 360 two and a half.
      Adding the horizontal rotations to the vertical rotations is moronic, and redundant. If you take out the preface of calling it a quadruple flip saying quadflip already accounts for the vertical rotations, all that's left is to describe the horizontal rotations. Saying a Quadruple flip 1620 leads one to believe that there were four vertical rotations, in addition to four and a half horizontal spins, which there weren't.
      For those of you arguing that he's not rotating along a vertical axis, you're just as shortsighted. He begins from a standing position and ends in one. That's vertical, and the perpendicular axis is always used to describe the other rotations.

    • @tompatompsson
      @tompatompsson 8 лет назад +1

      ScottWarnerMusic
      Well it doesn't work like that there is a reason why you say for example 540 rodeo even though it can be a 180 backflip. Saying quadflip 180 in this case would be 4 backflips and then a 180 saying quad 1620 is the correct way of saying it when it comes to skiing and snowboarding simply because in tricks like triple 1620 the rotation is in the flips saying that it's a triple 540 is wrong

    • @ScottWarnerMusic
      @ScottWarnerMusic 8 лет назад

      tompatompsson I appreciate that that's the method for naming tricks in snowboarding and skiing. I'm saying it doesn't make sense to do it that way, because if you're counting rotation in any other subject in the world, you count rotations on whichever axis you're rotating on. If there are multiple axis of rotation, you count those separately and describe them separately. It's not the convention in winter sports, but that's the only place where rotations are described by combining separate axis of rotation into a singular number.
      To me, it's redundant, as you're qualifying the rotations as flips, and then adding the perpendicular rotations to the total, which means in order to figure out the horizontal rotations, you need to subtract the vertical ones from the total. It's easier, more descriptive, and simple to cut out that step and just call it a quadruple under flip 180, because he made four vertical flips and a one-half horizontal rotation.

    Snowboarding takes its tricks from skateboarding. As a skater for 20 years this is not a 1620. Yes its slightly corked, yes its a quad flip, but in no way did this guy "ROTATE" 1620 degrees. Spins and flips are different. They can be combined, yes, but there was no spinning in his flips. To call this a "Switch Quadruple Underflip 1620" is completely wrong. It's a switch quad backflip front 180. Please enlighten me snowboarding community in to why you think one flip should also include a 360 rotated spin when clearly there is no rotation. This is more or less just a dumb way of monster energy and this very talented rider trying to name a NBD. Yes I understand if you cork a backflip 3 its gonna look like you dont spin but SPINS, FLIPS and CORKscrews are different axis of rotation. This is a striahgt up shift back flip movement, a corkscrew is left or right this is clearly back. GET at me HATERS!!!
