I kind of hated them haha. How tf does Peter forget that many backpacks, when you use a backpack every single day for school. Like, his school books should be in there. Did he just buy new books and redo homework for all 25 or so backpacks lol. It came off as lazy. If you think about it for more than a few seconds you realize how ridiculous it is to think Peter lost that many backpacks. As if every time he received an important item from his history, he just left it under a bridge lol

@@inyrui true. I hate how unrealistic Spider Man is.
      -_-
The important momentos left behind sure. But I think it's actually funny that Spider man has to quickly stash his shit and then go off and fight crime. He swings all over the place in a big city. I can definitly imagine him losing his backpacks, not having time to go back for them or not able to find them.

@@lucaleone4331 yeah I can see what you mean, I tried and I honestly can't think of a better way they could have done these kinds of collectibles. The backpacks were a clever idea, I just always thought it was funny how he had like 30 backpacks with important mementos and just forgot about them haha. It does fit Peter's character pretty well

About JJJ radio show, I think you missed to talk about how he is right sometimes. Most of the times he is over the top stupid like "maybe he hired people to kidnap your husband" etc but sometimes he talks about how pointless some of the actions you took like in the helicopter incident and that is true. Also, I liked his show after the bombing.

Ok, so after multiple sessions, I've finally finished this video, (not because the video is unengaging, but because of my own time constraints) This video was very engaging, and as someone who just completed Spiderman for the first time a week and a half ago, I agreed with about 99% of what you had to say in this video. This game was just "good" nothing more, it needed a lot more depth, but kept me engaged long enough to complete everything but the thug crimes.
The only thing that we disagreed on strangely enough, is the token system. I didn't mind completing all that padded out fluff because it was ultimately progressing my character, giving me a little buzz. every token was worthwhile in a way, made those activities feel worth doing, as boring as they were.

Features wish list for a sequel:
    Traversal:
Honestly, you hit the nail on the head with the freedom bit. Since their focus was on accessibility, I’d prefer to see these in a separate "complex swinging" option à la Spider-Man 2.
-Allow Spidey to touch the ground while swinging
-Double-handed web-zip by holding X instead of tapping(which launches you further but uses both web-zips)
-Upwards(vertical) web-zip perhaps by double tapping X with *no directional input*
-No line breaking if you hold onto R2(allowing you to perform full loops)
-Give wall-crawling its own button(as well as better, more responsive wall-crawling)
-Wall clings and rebounds(as in WOS)
-Consistent momentum physics(specifically, I mean that entering some animations causes you to lose momentum since they can start playing at a preset speed not always consistent with your momentum, thus feeling unnatural)
    -Allow running down walls
    -Classic(manual) pole swinging
-Web slingshot(Could use the move to point reticle system, “Choose two points, blast off!”)
-Allow web zipping to point from a wall crawl
    -Few more air tricks
    -Line climbing
    -Much higher speed cap
-Allow the charge jump to hold(and release) a charge while in the middle of the parkour and perching animations
-Charge jump should give different heights based on how long you hold it
    -*Option* for fall damage
    Extras and gimmicks:
-Hang enemies off street lamps and poles
-Web attach to a helicopter going to Ellis/Liberty Island
-Create a web hammock and lay in it
-Simply sit down on a bench, fire escape or perch point and chill
-Web attach to the back of a speedboat and skid across the water(only with the Symbiote suit)
-Enter Peter's apartment whenever(with perhaps a few interactable lore items lying around)
-Allow Spidey to pet a dog
-Allow you to change the weather effects(Option for heavy rain and/or thunderstorm would be nice)
-Remote control Spider-Bot in free roam(to a certain distance)
-*Option* to set the crimes frequency via a slider(sometimes you just want to swing peacefully without any alerts popping up)
    Side Activities:
While the crimes were great, I also personally wanted to see some _inconsequential_ interactions with the world, small stuff that gives a bit of charm to the world(that don't involve using fists)
-Rescue a cat from a tree
-Help up a fallen elderly person up off the ground
-Rescue a floating balloon for a kid(that tests how quickly you can gain height, not speed)
    -Donate to the homeless
--Stop a lone thief/mugger and convince him to stop and re-evaluate his life(limited # of times)
-Grab a quick hot dog from a hot dog stand or a drink from a diner or coffee shop(like in Mafia 2)
-*Rarely* rescue someone from a burning building, with firefighters just arrived on the scene(so you can justify that they'll take care of it if you skip it)
-*Rarely* bring someone directly to the hospital from a car crash or injury/collateral damage, with ambulances already heading to the scene
-*Very rarely* rescue civilians from sinking boats with rescue boats already heading to the scene
-More web swinging races and an option to submit scores to a leaderboard for them
-Ability to create your own drone challenges and race them!
-Special missions with the wider Marvel universe(Avengers, Moon Knight, F4, DD, etc.)
    Combat:
    -More combat finishers
    -Double (non-heavy)enemy finishers(using 2 focus bars)
-Allow slight camera control during finishers to begin targeting next enemy
-Web of Shadows AOE swing kick(Would love to knock criminals down like bowling pins again)
-Endless wave mode for the combat challenges and hideouts(with optional leaderboard)
    -Web strike bouncing(as in WOS)
-Slightly more responsive gadget wheel(remove the half-second delay)
    -Use left/right D-Pads for gadgets
-Allow you to complete the hideouts with stealth only
-More interesting and fleshed out stealth mechanics
    Suits:
-All of the suits from this game carry over to the next game
-My personal pick for an original suit: www.reddit.com/r/marvelstudios/comments/8bmv35/spiderman_wakanda_vibranium_armor_concept_art/
    Graphics:
-Spidey's reflection always showing on glass(Just real-time for Spider-Man himself, not everything)
    -More car variety
-More NPC variety, also, kids, cyclists, etc.
    World:
-All boroughs of New York explorable

Honestly, my favorite stealth segment was when you're playing as MJ and can call Spider-Man to take down enemies. I think the stealth would function better if web rush takedowns alerted enemies and they added more takedown variations. Also, after finishing the story last night, I had no idea you could quick swap between gadgets until I saw this video.

I think you pretty much nail all the major criticisms on the head here, but I will disagree with you on one thing: the inclusion of the Sinister Six. Their reveal felt pretty natural to me because we DO see set up for them. When Otto is shut down by Norman and he comes back, saying that he had found funding from other sources, we see him 3D printing armor pieces, mapping out the Raft, we even see the apparent cure for Vulture’s spinal cancer. On the screen over by the spectrograph mini-game, you see a display of a syringe. Peter even tries to wave it away by saying, “Maybe it’s for the neural implant, but that seems pretty big.” It wasn’t a massive ton of set up, I’ll grant you, but the fact that they constantly bring up the Raft, the fact that all the villains are there, JJJ even has a few episodes talking about it, and how Otto has clearly been setting up for their release for a while all seems pretty organic to me. Now, I didn’t watch much marketing, so I didn’t know they were in the game, so their inclusion was genuine shock for me (good shock, the “oh SHIT” kinda shock) because I knew the Raft was important to this universe, I knew Spidey had dealt with a lot of these villains before and to me, I didn’t need the game to dive into them much because I know them from the comics (kinda like how the Arkham games dealt with their villains), and because I knew Otto was up to SOMETHING, I just didn’t quite know what yet.
I do agree that Otto and Li sharing the same, generic plan was really lame though.

Thank you for pointing this out, this was one of the main things that annoyed me about his critique. I feel like the point also was to show aSpider Man deep into his carrer. It was almost a love letter to the fans or long time viewers of SpiderMan. (The "useless" backpacks also help because he talks about his past) The game sets up that this is a spider man with experience, and a past. I Liked how the Sinister 6 was brought in, I didnt need a HUGE build up But as you explained they still did a good job with subtle hints.
Also you WOULDNT have seen marketing for it because it was kind of the point how subtle it was. I even got a special edition of the game that came with a statue that labeled it as a spoiler warning bc it shows Spidey on top of all the bad guys armors in a victory pose.

@@hopesy12u4 Otto and Li working together wasn't bad, I liked it too, but it was more that we go through all the trouble in the game fighting Li to get the Devil's Breath back, where he keeps threatening to release it, yet Otto turns around, steals it *again* for like, the ninth time, then just releases it anyway. I feel like it would've worked better in a purely narrative pacing kind of way if the Devil's Breath just never turned up after Li's first arrest. I get that it was going for a subversion where we think we've hit the return to normality at the "end" of the story, which did surprise me on my first playthrough, but I was expecting Otto and his plotline to be saved for a sequel anyway, so having that lingering question of what happened to the Devil's Breath after Li's first capture would've aided that feeling of shock when the second half of the game hits, rather than a complete redux of Li's plan, except it worked this time. It's not awful as it stands, I absolutely love the game, but my point is that once you get over the initial shock that there's another 10 hours to the game, it's a little strange when you stop to think how Otto just gets the Devil's Breath after all the security breaches the Oscorp had *and* that any time Li went after the Devil's Breath, he needed an army just to get to it.

    • @beancheesedip8337
      @beancheesedip8337 4 года назад +9

@@lucaleone4331 yeah, that's the thing, considering how relatively small the Sinister Six's role is in the overall story, the story didn't warrant a huge amount of set up. If they were going to be the main villains of the entire story, sure, it would need at least a little more explicit set up, but with Otto and Li being the main baddies and the Sinister Six being supplementary, how they're handled was completely fine, given they're obviously established villains for this universe's Spider-Man, who's been a hero for like, 8 years. Otto and Li are sufficiently built up as villains, so you understand who they are without the context of the comics and the rest are built up enough so, even if you aren't entirely familiar with them from the comics, you at least know that they're threats from Spider-Man's past exploits that we just didn't need to see.

In regards to the criticism about the swing kick not having a function: I find that it's actually very useful depending on your playstyle. If you're someone who prefers to spend most of their time in the air and on the move it's an extremely important utility.
    >It let's you launch dudes into an aircombo without needing to touch the ground first (the only other way to achieve this is to pull enemies towards you while in the air however this is slow and leaves you stationary which means you're vulnerable).
    >It's a good way to quickly move larger distances without having to ground yourself in front of an enemy like the webstrike.
    >It's vital for maintaining altitude, you can go an entire fight without ever touching the ground if you use the swing kick right.
On the higher difficulties being in the air is pretty much the safest place for spidey since you only have to worry about damage from ranged enemies. The swing kick along with the air dash are pretty much your core tools for staying in the air.

I think a really small tweak to the story could've been Martin Li being close with Otto - so when Otto looses his funding, Li starts funding - and when Li's almost beat, the emotionally unstable Ock turns to villany because he needs Li - he needs that funding, so he orchestrates the breakout.
From that small change Ock goes from our main villain to our tragic villain (even more so than in the story we got) where Li is still calling the shots but when you think it's all done Ock's still holding on to the villany after Li's down because he's too far gone - so we end up in a similar place but without a serious villain shift.

After playing DMC i think Spider-man could benefit with a style bar system. The more vary your attacks the better the score. So at the end of encounter you will get an overall rating. The higher the rating the more exp you gain, this could encourage the player to vary their attacks and strategies intern adding a layer of difficulty.

I play DMC too, but I've realized theres another action game franchise that is more hand to hand grounded fights. It's called Yakuza. There;s a meter called the "heat meter" and it's like a style gage that fills up the more you land hits and perform taunts. you can use them to perform "heat actions" which are context sensitive moves that are like SMPS4's finishers. Later on in the series, they introduced the red meter which is like the highest you can go with your heat meter and it powers up all your heat actions. Also in the Yakuza series, you can use up heat meter for certain action like using it to extend your combo or inputting a throw in the middle of your combo or countering an attack(while guarding). Generally having a higher heat meter gives you a better status but you can sacrifice them for heat moves and such.

Swing kicks do have utility. They are more of a crowd control that throws people off buildings, or pushes them away. You can go to one enemy to another that is relatively close just by swing kicking. I like to punch enemies in the air jump off them and then swing kick the next guy. Hope that makes sense.
You also run out of gadgets. Early you don’t even have the good gadgets. Later you have so many enemies that you run out of gadgets. You can’t win big fights with gadgets. You also run out of throwable objects. This is when air combat and swing kicks come in

    • @Whitelight
      @Whitelight  6 лет назад +11

There's few crimes in the game that you can't cheese with gadgets. It's true, huge fights in the story or hideouts cannot be cheesed entirely, but certainly made far easier. I know what you mean with the swing kicks. They aren't CC, but you can use it as a transition, although I don't see how that's exclusive to the swing kick. You can transition with the web strike and jump off too if you're in the air.

If you see someone near the edge and don't want to use a gadget, then jump + swing kick is the single fastest way to knock them off. And it has a greater range than the uppercut launcher.
Swing kick also is the non-gadget, balanced quick and long range attack to pin a webbed target that is just far enough from the wall for a basic web shooter not to stick them down. It is second fastest behind the close ranged throw. The third fastest is web throw (which has the longest range) and, finally, the basic combo is the slowest.
Lastly, swing kick can sometimes extend the amount of time you stay airborne while maintaining a combo.
I really did appreciate the aerial jump-off tactic, I hadn't used it before to knock enemies off of ledges. What's extra nice about it is that you choose the direction they go, so you can corral them easily or disperse them at will.

I'm about halfway through the video now, and he just mentioned that air-combat was basically pointless. This is a great in-depth review but this point really irks me. It feels very incorrect because air-combat actually provides 3 incredible bonuses:
      1. It gets you off the ground. If you're surrounded by enemies and getting hit from all sides, fighting above the crowd is better than fighting in the middle of them.
      2. *Focus builds significantly faster when dealing damage in the air than fighting on the ground*
      3. *You deal MORE damage with more focus*
Air-combat is extremely beneficial. It gets you away from tons of damage, it makes you build focus even faster than normal, and as an added bonus, you end up doing more damage after you're done doing a combo on some poor thug in the air. I don't know if these points are going to be mentioned later, but I really do hope they are.

The reason why the game had problems is because Activision forced Teyrack to release the game too soon. Web of Shadows could have been great, if developers had more time to finish the game. They even showed some concempt arts during the credits and we could have had a Moon Knight symbiote boss fight in the game as well.

This game was a blast from start to finish on my initial play through. The story was so amazing, and I only fell more in love with it while the plot was thickening.
The word I would use to describe all aspects of the gameplay: streamlined.
The traversal is the simplest it has been besides Spider-Man 2000, Enter Electro, and 2002. All you have to do is hold down the go button and press X or L2 when you want to jump or zip to a perch point. The transition from wall to air to ground traversal is nearly seamless. Therefore, it does not contain complex button presses to do the cool stuff. You can just hold R2 and watch as Spider-Man swings about the city. There are more options, yet less freedom. I love the traversal of the game, but will admit that there were some tricks that I wish they brought back.
The combat is very simple on the surface. You've got your staple web-strike, melee, dodge, and web buttons. However, it's how you can mix these together and string together long combos that makes it so satisfying. If you are really good at not getting hit, you can easily rack up a 200-hit combo with ease. The extra challenges (such as web-throw x amount of enemies, or web x amount of enemies to walls) helps to get rid of the monotony that you speak of. To me, the way to best enjoy the combat is to use all the tricks you can at your disposal. That's something that the Arkham games have taught me, since you were ranked by how much variety you used in combat. They should have implemented that grading system into the combat here for the challenges, replacing it with the timed challenges.
I much prefer the combat in this game over the Arkham games since you juggle enemies with multiple hits rather then mow them down one by one, however I do notice the severe lack of gadget variety and uses that you have mentioned. With Arkham, all gadgets work together to be best suited for different situations. You can bat claw someone to put them closer to you, or you and throw a batarang at them to stun/incapacitate them from a distance. And the combat is best when hopping from enemy to enemy. With Spider-Man, it's more about keeping your enemies at bay while you focus on one specific target. The gadgets all seem to strengthen that principle. Web shots can lead into web-throwing enemies and crowd control. The concussive blast is an area effect, whereas insta-kills with the impact and trip wire are for dealing with individual targets, and so on. You can uppercut and enemy into the air allowing for you to get away from all the others that swarm you. With that being said though, I find more entertainment in Spider-Man's more acrobatic animations. and also more satisfying than Arkham's combat, and a lot of that is due to the focus meter. And it most resembles the combat system from Spider-Man 2 in that respect.
Exquisite thorough analysis. I thought you were a tad harsh on the game, but I understand that it was only because of what a Spider-Man game means to you. I love how you went on to say this the best Spider-Man game for the general consensus. They laid the foundation for a very approachable Spider-Man game from all fronts: story, combat, traversal and collectibles. I believe it truly is the ultimate Spider-Man experience due to how much it got right, and I am expecting great things from the sequel.

My problem with the combat system is how unchallenging it is there are barely any hard enemy combinations save for the whip guys which are more annoying then hard to fight and how the healing destroys nearly all the difficulty also I really don’t like how the game doesn’t emphasise combos and combat variations like Arkham does in this game you can easily just cheese the enemies and you won’t suffer any reprimands there should have been more rewards for using different combat styles it would be very easy to implement and would fit perfectly into the game

She is just Lois Lane and is pretty much a name only version of MJ and every interaction with her feels the same with her alwasy mneitoning the breakup and not sharing much chemistry with Peter. The fact that her sections are boring doesn't help.

That’s a lazy excuse insomniac uses. While some people do actually (idiotically) believe that, insomniac was just lazy when it came to writing her and Peters relationship. In the comics (before the dark ages of modern 616 Spidey comics) MJ would emotionally comfort Peter. They were in all of this together. And their amazing relationship didn’t require MJ’s occupation to be closely related to Peters superheroics. Rather than just writing and performing scenes that require MJ and Peter to have real human conversations with each other, they decided to turn her into a reporter and have MJ complain about being a damsel in distress. Giving love interests of superheroes certain professions that automatically string them close to the protagonist (journalist like Lois lane, science major like Gwen Stacy) has always been a contrived plot device. And Insomniac decided to go with that.

My ideas for car chases in the sequel:
Police radios in. There's at least 1 (or more) car tearing through NY at crazy speeds. You need to be at your best to catch up to the vehicle, because it's not only fast, but there's goons firing machine guns at you. If needed, you might be better off hitching a ride on the Police car to catch up to the crooks. Getting on the car requires a manually-aimed web zip, and you'll latch onto the car in different ways depending on the type of car. Sedan, convertible, truck, the variety adds a new wrinkle in stopping their rampage. Once you're on the speeding vehicle, the occupants within will do everything they can to get you off and/or squash you. Crooks can lean out the window to shoot at you, or even fire at you through the roof ala Spider-Man 1. If there's 2 cars in the encounter, the one behind the car you're on may even try to ram it to shake you off. You have the choice of either performing a vehicle takedown immediately that I'll detail in a bit, or incapacitating the crooks first, depending on how skilled you are as a player. In regards to taking out the thugs one by one, you have the option of: 1) flipping to either side of the car and having a brief fist-fight with them ala Spider-Man 3 The Game, 2) flipping to the front of the car and webbing their windshield up ala Amazing Spider-Man The Game, in which case the driver will take evasive action to try and throw you off, 3) breaking into the car and performing a QTE event to take down the thugs from inside ala Deadpool. Now for the vehicle takedowns. The trick to all of these is that they're completely player controlled, and you have to think fast to pull it off. You have the option of 1) Ripping the hood off and smashing the engine, 2) Channeling Spider-Man 2 and slowing down the car with multiple web anchors (that can break easier depending on where you fire them), 3) Performing a small QTE and producing a web net to catch the car, 4) jamming the tires with webbing. Did I mention that the scenarios can vary depending on how many cars are being chased or if the thugs have a hostage with them?

The swing kick can actually hit multiple enemies, so you can sort of use it for crowd control. There's also a funny combination where you [swing kick + jump off] enemy back into swing kick and repeat ultimately stun locking that enemy, works best on jet-pack dudes.

I love how this game emphasizes and rewards mastery of the Perfect Dodge mechanic.
By giving you challenges during Base Missions to use perfect dodges, they teach you to use them and give you more experience with them. And then rewarding you when you achieve mastery with Instant Takedowns and more Focus, they make the game more cinematic and more efficient. With skills like the Equalizer, the game becomes quicker and easier and really makes you feel accomplished.
I just wish the game had more air combat than “basic 4 hit combo” and had some Wall Combat.
Actually, overall the game’s combat feels a bit repetitive and boring. Disregarding finishers and environmental attacks (which, granted, are large parts of skilled gameplay,) there isn’t really much diversity in combat, at least visually. It’s still great, but could definitely have been better.
I’d say that, for as good as the combat is (and it is good, no matter how much I may criticize it,) the best parts of this game are... well, everything else. Except for the “puzzles”. Those suck.

Excellent analysis of the swing mechanics. Touched on a lot of the issues I personally found troublesome, such as not being able to touch the ground when swinging and hovering as a result, not being able to achieve maximum speed after diving from the tallest building, and unrealistic momentum from web zips.
These problems, along with the fact that you are essentially invulnerable when swinging and not able to take damage from smacking into walls, trees, the ground, suffering from friction burns, ie get penalised for being unskilled or careless, took me out of the game. Every time I see something that ruins my suspension of disbelief, web swinging as a plausible concept in real life weakens. If the core essence of Spider-Man requires the bending of physics to make it work, then the possibility of gaining spider powers one day is now much less appealing to fantasise about.
Perhaps making the web swinging as realistic as possible was never an option. Perhaps realistic swinging would not only be no fun, it would also make the game utterly unplayable. Perhaps realistic swinging would ruin the game. But certainly I think insomniac has the ability to make a more believable swinging engine at the same level of fun.
Reviewers who don’t bother to address these problems and invariably claim it’s the best swinging system ever as if it was perfect, whilst ruthlessly bashing, or worse, ignoring older Spider-Man games that had better mechanics drive me nuts. So thank you for pointing out these issues and making me feel like I am not alone in being not 100% happy with them.

Great video, dude. I love the game as much as anybody, it's one of my favorite games of... probably ever, but definitely of this generation. But that doesn't mean I didn't also have a ton of annoyances and nitpicks, and you pretty much covered all of them! Music being generic, mechanics being shallow and guided, the story doing this awkward villain shift and spending most of its runtime just looking for devil's breath/mr. negative, you're not alone at all in feeling that way. I appreciate some in-depth nitpicking now that the devs have already gotten their deserved praise.
In terms of villains for the next game, Venom and Green Goblin have got the big bads covered, and Sandman, Kraven, Mysterio and Chameleon if they wanna reach for other big name Sinister Six members. I imagine they're gonna pull in Miles' dad as Prowler, too. It's like the only villain he's got that anyone remembers. Bit of a reach here, but I wanna see Spot in a sidemission or something, either in the sequel or DLC. Emotional weight? No. Super fun powerset, iconic suit, funny dude? Absolutely. This swing is easily the smoothest and most intuitive swing system we've ever had. Yet compared to web of Shadows you can literally only move forward and backward and jump off. In Web of Shadows you could zoom straight up you could do loopy loops you could go around buildings. I want web of Shadow speed & style but with this game's smoothness and rumble feedback. Also add many more swing animations like the kind we see in the cutscenes. also add grinding and skidding and wall grabbing and improve wall-crawling to make it more manual. Add a more consistent and more fluid webtunnel move that can be used more frequently and doesn't kill momentum.
I would literally do nothing but swing for hours and hours. Add the ability to swing off of poles with the wall grab button. The jump button should never make Spider-Man just jump in the air but should instead be a point to point system like web grapplehook.

Traversal: The best web-swinging system we've had, but not nearly as perfect as I would've liked it to be (it does get me excited for what Insomniac is going to do with it in the sequel). I hated that there was no fall damage, the devs said they don't wanna punish the players for messing up, it takes about 10 minutes, and I'm being generous here, to pretty much perfect your swinging. I don't think they realize that there are no toddlers playing the game.
Crimes: Overall great, but it did get a bit bland after doing the same crimes 50 times each. Car chases though are boring and uninspired, the thugs somehow manage to not crash into anything while driving through the streets of New York!! And if you chase the car around you'll notice that they take the same path over and over. Somehow when you take out the thugs, including the driver, the car will still manage to do a perfect 90-degree turn. It feels more like an interactive movie rather than a game if you get what I mean.
Story: Great and mostly predictable with the few exceptions. The predictability doesn't take much away from the story though, it's one of those "it's about the journey, not the destination" type of thing.
Combat: Same with traversal in that it's one of the best combat systems in any game, but it could be much better. After reaching a certain level you can literally end fights in seconds.
Boss fights: Arguably the least impressive and most disappointing thing in the game, apart from maybe 2 boss fights, Electro/Vulture fight, and the final fight. Also, the supervillains don't come out to play until late game, so you're stuck with shitty thugs, demons and annoying sable soldiers.
Science mini-games: Why? Yes, you can go to the options and turn on skip mini-games, but those mini-games combined are a good chunk of the game, but if devs felt the need to add the option to skip them, then that probably tells you that they're not good enough to be in the game.
MJ/Miles Stealth missions: All boring, repetitive and basic, all apart from one, which was the Rhino stealth section (Which was still repetitive and basic af but it still served a purpose). Going from playing as the amazing Spider-Man to a helpless powerless teenager really put things into perspective, first time playing through that section with the behemoth almost mythical looking creature that is the Rhino looking around for Miles really made me scared for him.
I loved MJ throughout the game and her relationship with Peter, but I hated when she kept getting herself into dangerous situations then saying shit like "I got myself in this mess so I'll get myself out" to Peter and also complaining about him trying to save her. I understand the need for strong female characters in all forms entertainment and I'm all for that honestly, but it shouldn't get in the way of common fucking sense. Motherfucka you keep infiltrating militia bases full of trained soldiers that will probably shoot first and ask questions later, and you have the gall to bitch about Peter trying to get you out of a situation that you could've never gotten yourself out of, he's literally saving your life. I hate when games or any form of media try to overcompensate on the progressiveness, and ye she did explain her attitude later on but that doesn't really excuse her being difficult and push Peter away like that, that just comes off as petty and childish.
Side missions: Were ok, but again, could've been way better.
JJJ: Shit character. The only good iterations are JK Simmons's and the Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon's JJJ, both are great and lovable, Marvel's Spider-Man's JJJ, however, can go suck a fat one. Thank god I found out about the option to turn his annoying ass podcast off.
I would've liked more Taskmaster challenges.
Overall, definitely the best Spider-Man game in almost every aspect no questions asked. Seeing how well Insomniac did on their first attempt at a Spider-Man game makes me really excited for what they're gonna do in the next game.
I doubt anyone will read this whole thing, but if someone did. Hi, good job, you did something I would've never dared to do, you get nothing for it though.

Despite the old school and repetitive design of the boss encounters, I did think it was a wise choice to make almost every single one of them incorporate web swinging in some fashion due to the large vertical arenas. In my opinion, this offered a little bit more freedom and helped to make the fights feel like a authentic Spider Man brawl. You can argue Web of Shadows had this to a degree, but it was mostly web strike than web swinging.
The sad thing about adopting free flow combat is that while it works great for hordes of enemies, it starts to show its limitations tremendously whenever you’re fighting someone one on one.
Why do you think every boss fight in Asylum and City was against a big brute with groups of thugs or a giant monster because when it’s one on one with someone your regular size, it just becomes a sequence of boring QTEs or just waiting for them to get dizzy or stunned for you to wail on them.
Web of Shadows and even Shattered Diemensions’ combat had far more in common with the likes of Devil May Cry or God of War to where you had more options in going up against a boss or a group of enemies.
It would be nice for Insominac to add more to the combat systems they already have in place and attempt to try to make their boss encounters feel a little less repetitive and simple.

I hardly used the gadgets in combat aside from the spider bots unless I was doing a challenge or intentionally mixing things up.
I preferred the web shooters for their versatility.
That said, I really enjoyed the combat. I would go to crimes just for the fun of trying out combo ideas.

    So, what's the takeaway here?

My only problem with the taskmaster stealth challenges is that to get ultimate you basically have to just memorize the enemy's positions and the correct order to rapidly take them out

That's basically every stealth challenge ever. What makes it interesting is the execution, which is fairly shallow in spiderman.

I loved "ninja-ing" across the city in ultimate and arbor shadows, basically traversing the city by wall running jumping bouncing etc everything but swinging and zipping. You can't do that in this game at all.

Can't wait to watch your critique on Marvel's Spider-Man 2 (if you're gonna do it). I hope you do it close to the same way you did this video. This video just flows so well and is so very enjoyable. I have watched it 10+ times now, just because how good it all is.

Om the subject of gadgets, I agree with everything except the spider drones part, when they are maxed out they melt enemies, and that is a life saver on an harder difficulty

    Yes.
    This.
    Thank you, sir.
I love the game, but it feels like a first draft, especially in regards to the navigation. You are completely correct in your assessment of R2. It’s too automated. I miss the Sunset Overdrive navigation, as it presents a lot of depth in the movement to button-input.
I find the crimes repetitive🤷🏻‍♂️Would love to hear cries for Help! and click R3 to perform a zoom on the relative origin location, initiating the encounter.

You can wall bounce, but its a bit more complicated than WOS. Dodge onto the wall then hit X.

just release R2 then press it again to run on the wall then tap x before he really starts running

Miles is crucial to the story because he adds a different dimension to peters character that we've not seen in any of the different iterations of spiderman. We get to see and experience him as the mentor, as he slowly influences and develops Miles' moral compass. We've gotten lots of versions of Spiderman and Peter parker. But all of which are as a student. Maguire's spiderman was the Student of Doc Oc, Garfields was influenced by Uncle Ben and Captain Stacey and Holland's has Tony Stark. And while This version of Parker is still a student of Otto and May; He also takes what he's learnt from them and his experiences as spiderman and passes that knowledge onto Miles.
