I just can't understand why she's been hating this album ... this is an 80s masterpiece. So what if it didn't do well on the charts?! Piece of art is a piece of art, no matter what the charts say ...
it was more that people in the music industry didn't take her seriously and didn't know how to market it as this style was going out of fashion and they Wouldn't give her money to record a new album etc. It would be hard if you invested years into a project, made huge compromises to please the record company and then for it not to have any reward.
Maybe my favorite song from Y Kant Tori Read. Excellent editing for this video. Maybe it's because it's a very nostalgic sound for me, but this album is not the flop for me that people made it out to me. The sound reminds me of my childhood.

How ironic that she was dismissed as being behind the times for doing a synth-y album in the late '80s, then had to crank out some synth-y stuff in the late '90s ("Ambient Raspberry Swirl," anyone?) to appease people because every musical act was going "electronica"

Listen to “pirates” from this album and you’ll hear elements of “suddenly last summer” by the motels. She had to start somewhere, I suppose. She ended up doing great as a solo artist!
