Stumbled across your vlog by accident & very glad I did. A fantastic video & a beautiful town. It's a breath of fresh air to see something positive of South Africa instead of the negative stuff that is portayed in the news. Keep up the good work & looking forward to seeing more of your vlogs.
Hi Raine, thank you very much for your kind words and for checking out my content! Much appreciated. South Africa has a lot to offer, other than what you would see in the news (often negative) and tourist brochures (often limited). More vlogs coming soon!
Hey Willie I'm liking the Afrikaans language a lot it's such a cool unique language , those sculptures are awesome she must have put so much work into making these thing's one can only imagine the countless day's week's and month's of continuous hard work. Keep up the good work bro 👍👍
Thank you very much my friend! We are very proud of our Afrikaans language. A lot of hard graft went into that art, that is for sure. Sometimes it is easy to forget that when you walk around the sculptures. Cheers for your massive support to my channel!
Athol Fugard wrote a play "The road to Mecca" that was inspired by Helen Martins and the owl house. It was made into a film in 1991 with the same name. He apparently starred as the dominee of the church. A delightful visual feast of the town and it's attractions, thank you!
Thanks for watching and commenting, Jasper! I realised in this series just how much there is to see and experience in my own country. I've never been to Nieu-Bethesda before, but it left a lasting impression on me. Also, I hope these videos show people living in other parts of the world that not everyone in South Africa lives in gated communities or secure complexes - there are some breathtakingly peaceful places that will completely blow you away!
What a beautiful place, so peaceful too. Strange for me because I suddenly thought of The Owl house a couple of days ago 8 May 2024. That two people could create such work by themselves. What a legend and for Ms Matt end a sad end.
Hi Jean, thank you for watching and taking the time to leave a comment! As a first time visitor, I really enjoyed the town and all it has to offer. Yep, a sad story re Helen Martins, but what wonderful art did she create and inspire!
It's miles not metres. It's an old sign. The Owl house gave me the creeps. I had such nightmares that night! Yes, its beautiful and fascinating. Once you are aware of Miss Helen's story it becomes macabre. Yet, i would love to visit again. Please say i am not the only one so sensitive. You remind me so much of Ben from Bald and Bankrupt. Miskien is dit toevallig.😊
Thanks Anna. Where did I say metres? The Owl House is not everyone's cup of tea, but I found it really insightful. A unique experience. Thanks for watching!
@@willieexplore this is an different side to the south Africa that I have seen in the past away ahead from this point of view especially when showing place that has actually occurred during the isolated areas of the times.
@@mayousimon1 that's so good to hear Simon, the media often portrays South Africa in a very negative light so I'll always try to show you something positive!
Such a beautiful, peaceful place. I wish I could own a piece of Neville or Katrina's art for my garden. Neville has a great outlook on life. The Owl House is stunning but what a sad story about Helen Martins. She certainly had immense talent and style but her art killed her in the end. Tragic.
I don't say this lightly, but I think this was one of my favourite destinations of all time, Sheila. South Africa is a big country and, though I've been to many places there, I was completely stumped by the natural beauty of this place. Neville and Katrina both had such positive energy and you immediately get the sense that they are very proud of their craft and their village in general. As for Helen Martins - where to begin. So tragic but she inspired (and continues to inspire) so many. You really have to be there in person to fully appreciate the Owl House but I hope it at least gave you a glimpse of the magic!
@@willieexplore the magic certainly did come through, Willie and you could tell you loved being there. I have to say I have watched many travel vlogs about places all over the world but this place is like nothing I have ever seen before. Truly beautiful. The fact that this lady's house and her art has been preserved in this way too is wonderful.
Hi Willie absolutely love your vlog of this beautiful town of Nieu-Bethesda. We live in such a beautiful country and are very blessed. So well presented and informative. I actually went there on a school outing when I was like 12 years old, love this place. We did a tour of the Owl House too. Keep up the good work! Look forward to hearing back from you. Are you on Facebook too? Kind Regards Keith Gardiner
Hi Keith, thanks for the nice words! Glad you enjoyed this video. This was my first visit to Nieu-Bethesda and can't wait to go back one day. A place where you can get proper rest for the soul. I don't have a Willie Explore Facebook page...just yet. But watch this space!
I keep on finding my self telling u to go down this street and go see this and that . thank u for the name of the place and the meaning . i have lots of Cristian friends that will not go there and do not understaand way i love the place
The story of that car is that many years a go a new wedding coupel marry there and buy a hous there then he park the car there to be use by any one that got marry and that is the story of the car
Thanks for watching Anita. I'm sure you have more class than what your comment suggest. I'll make videos for people to watch around the world and showcase our beautiful country on a global scale. You can scroll past if you don't want to watch.
How ignorant. He doesn't just do South Africa videos. Not sure how many people would watch his travel vlogs of places such as Azerbaijan, Kosovo, Greenland, Tunisia and Finland if they were done in Afrikaans.
This guy travels the world and produce content for others to enjoy (including people like me who are not South African and therefore cannot understand Afrikaans which is what you seem to prefer), showing places I will never see myself. I can only imagine all the effort - not just filming, but editing. And here you come, someone with no content whatsoever, possibly sitting at home and watching this video on a smartphone (for free, mind you) criticising his pronunciation. Lol. Cringeworthy.
Please leave a LIKE for this video! Let's see if we can hit 200!
