Gary Katz is quite the legend. His ear - undeniably gifted. And, his joy of nature & some beautiful scenic places even far from NY, like Minnesota adds to his charm.
It's such a joy that legends like Gary Katz are alive and willing to share living history with the world for posterity. Indeed, there will never be another Steely Dan, and it seems like the musical genius captured by Gary, Walter, Donald, Roger, et al will continue to be unraveled in the years/decades to come.
Thanks guys for this forum for us older Steely Dan fans! I'm 59 & was a serious fan from 2nd grade through 'Gaucho' which was on the charts my last 2 years of high school. Thank you Gary Katz!
Cimcie, which interviewees have you got lined up next? Chuck Rainey did an interview with Rick Beato and has some great stories. There’s also a video of him on YT explaining how he put up screens and turned his chair so he could slap on Peg. B&F didn’t want slapping, but Rainey knew it would be right for the track. Anyway, whoever is next, I'm looking forward to it!
Anyone else surprised to hear Chad pronounce legendary singer/songwriter Laura Nyro's last name as "nigh-ro" at 9:30 here? I've always heard it pronounced like the Roman emperor, Nero.
Donald and Walter didn't like the sound quality of the copies of the original that got accidentally erased. They rerecorded it with different musicians than the original. Donald didn't like the finished product.
You posted this video before and I posted a significantly ridiculous comment below it, now you've posted it again, and now I'm forced to think of something even more idiotic... You're making work for me Nichols, seriously you are.
You can see the obvious warmth that Gary retains for Roger. Brilliant video.

Thank you for making this happen Cimcie, we’re so grateful for all you do 💗
Thank you so awesome. RIP Rodger the Immortal Nicholas, and Walter Carl Becker my favorite musician.

Gary Katz present day- "Get the hell off my lawn...!"

the main question I have is why did The Second Arrangement not make the Gaucho album???

There is an amazing cover of it by International Dan Collective.
