I think it’s the first time I see one of your videos Mattia I’m going to check what else you have done because this is exactly what I need and what I appreciated I just subscribed to your channel thank you Mattia
I’m so glad you composed a piece emulating the style of Ravel. Beautifully done! Thanks so much for offering this series. It’s always fascinating, practical, and helpful.
It took me the first two items in this video to realize what's wrong with the music. Sir, the way you concealed the actual music in such a subtle way while preserving enough character for us to recognize the original, is truly genius. Very encouraging in the times of new fascism that we live in.
Your best video series ! i really like to see piano roll with your chords and harmony explanation at the same time - all these old musician references are very interesting to study - you've got a really good inspiration - thank you very much for your time and passion of teaching music - Have a nice day !
This series is just golden. Just amazing stuff Mattia. I would love a video where you walk us through your template and how you go about orchestrating virtually? Thank you 😁
Hey Mattia! A question regarding Smetana’s “Moldau” (Vltava). Is this your arrangement of main theme? I know the piece quite well and the main motif is bit different. You ve done a great job, i really like it!
Hi thanks, I’m not necessarily trying to copy my references. I’m taking the essence of what it makes it sound the way it does and adapt it to the main theme I used through the series.
Amazing video I love using some of these techniques in my compositions its fun to do, thank you for putting out this info great work. :) .. off topic is that shirt you're wearing armani ? Looks like some fabric he would use lol
@@MattiaChiappa lol I was just wondering cause I liked that texture of the fabric I treat clothes like compositions when putting stuff together lol I binged all the orchestral technique videos on you're channel some really great advice in there, got a piece im working on now blending a synthwave and filmscore feel together and I used some of these tricks. Thanks again can't wait for more videos :)
Another excellent video, and I'm looking forward to Episode 10! I was wondering... if there was one book that would put someone on track to approach your knowledgeability and skill level, what would you recommend reading?
Thanks! I’m more of a practical kind of guy, I think getting some scores you can transcribe and or study is a way more efficient way to spend your time. That’s how I learned what I know
@@MattiaChiappa Thank you for your advice, I will heed to it! As a rookie, scores still intimidate/confuse me a bit, but I suppose it just takes some getting used to.
I was going through the Chairman Dances score and seeing how the flutes managed to play in combination a sound neither could have sustained individually but sounded like a single instrument so it's great to see how you use them here in the Adams bit.
@@MattiaChiappa David Bruce's RUclips channel has a couple of very interesting videos on Adams' orchestration worth a look and covers this too. It';s what mad eye get the score out to look it over. That whole idea that what you THINK you're hearing is a carefully crafted product of orchestration and when it's broken down, each instrument isn't playing quite what you think it is. It goes back much further than Adams but it canned the way I thought about orchestration as a whole. Coming to it as a listener is not the same as how the composer crafts what you you're actually listening to. anyway, I've loved this series of videos and watch them frequently. Terrific stuff.
Would really love to see more of these Romantic orchestrations!
the mix of traditional notation and piano roll inspection makes these techniques accessible to aspiring orchestrators! again, very successful video.
Thanks!
The start of Across the Stars has always reminded me of that Swan Lake movement as well.

Thanks Brian! I’m a big fan of David Bruce’s videos. I’ve been watching them since the very beginning. Lots and lots of great stuff there
How did you program the runs in 82? Just drawing them in?
If I remember correctly I played them in at a painfully slow tempo, both hands separately, then brought the tempo back to normal.
@@MattiaChiappa legend.🤘
Oui!
Amazing that you have an f1 driver as a patron!
Wait what, I didn't notice?!?! Who would that be?
@@MattiaChiappa
Carlos Sainz!
That must be a coincidence but can you imagine how cool it would be if that were really him 😀
wow, beautiful sounds... where you got those?
On his hard drive, i reckon.
Mattia, which sample library is brass at 1:24 ?
It's cinematic studio brass and sample modelling solo horn
Just tell me if you are ever going to compose a symphony. That would be like cool x 100
Mmm doing something like that kinda scares me tbh
@@MattiaChiappa I think you would do great with all that knowledge! Double daring you >:D
Please can someone send a link on how to watch the Tchaikovsky song that was introduced at the beginning of this video
I took inspiration from the Swan Lake if I remember correctly. Lots of recordings here on RUclips
No 81 precisely
The only composer I'm not sure of is the one for 82. Could you reveal who that is please?
For sure that was Rachmaninoff, 2nd piano concerto
@@MattiaChiappa Ah, thanks!
25:23 This one gives me Interstellar vibes.
I recently re-watched the first matrix movie. Tons of John Adams influences in the score!
@@MattiaChiappa Oh, nice! I can definitely hear that now that you mention it.
Dynamism😂🎉
