**Always follow your local electrical code. Check your smoke + carbon monoxide detectors once a month. Smoke Detectors expire after 10 years. Replace smoke detectors + carbon monoxide detectors every 10 years. Dust on sensors make smoke detectors less sensitive. Check the side of your detector for the expiration date. If it doesn’t have one, replace it. Turn power off before wiring a smoke detector.

Outstanding video. Very clear. Very helpful. This is the first video of yours I've seen. It won't be the last.
Thanks for watching Scott. I’m happy you found it helpful.
This is a couple years ago now but I only just saw it, This woman is Dreamy and very informative video , Thank you
Glad to hear you found the video helpful Leland, thanks!
Best video I have found for replacing a hardwired smoke detector.
I was captivated with your video in many ways. Very clear, concise, explanatory and well presented. You would make a great neighbour. 😉
Thank you so much for the easy explanation....you did an amazing job ! Keep it coming.
Thank-you kindly Harold! Appreciate you taking the time to let me know. More on the way!
I did 5 of these Smoke/CO2 detectors, only thing, I continued the 14/3 to the panel box. How do I wire in - what happens with red? Or, do I have to use 14/2 to the box? Love the videos! Great to see them and confirm I'm doing it right!! Thanks
Very well explained, brief and clear. I now feel confident to install one of those. Thank you very much.
Thanks so much Nelson! My pleasure. 🤗
"I usually pre twist my wires" I'm in love 😍😍😍😍😍😍
It’s the only way to go! 💯
very clear. best I've come across

Thank you for Clear Explanation and Great Video....👍👍
Thanks for watching! 😀
Can you please make a video how to make holes for led lights in the basement if basement is already finished and how we can wire through beams. Thanks 🙏
The best way to wire things in my opinion is to make sure all of them are wired in correctly
Your name is very interesting. Daru ( whiskey) dhillon
It’s an old Sanskrit name 💫
Isn’t daru mean whiskey in Punjabi?
I love your videos. Are you a professional contractor?
@@parrydhaliwal6035yes. My name is pronounced differently
@@parrydhaliwal6035 thanks Parry! I am a licensed contractor in Toronto. I have friends that are Dhaliwals. Good people! Thanks for supporting our channel!

Super neat, keep it up!

What is the teaching how used wire nut or to connect the wire??
I'm replacing and old detector, the box in my ceiling has red, white and black wires just like in your video. Is the "14/2, 14/3 wire" part of these instructions relevant if I'm not adding an entirely new detector to the house?
14/3 wire is used if the smoke detectors are connected to each other. Otherwise 14/2 can be used to wire one detector on its own.
Thanks for the video. I live in a mobile home and the wired detectors are defective. They are wired in with a two wire connector that is white and black wires. If when I buy replacements if the new ones come with the red wire for connecting the two together I presume I just not connect the red wire to anything. Is that correct? Thanks for any info.
Hi Franko, I would wire the whites and blacks and leave the interconnected wire as is since you don’t have it. It will be good to have those up and running. Thanks for the question!
@@DaruDhillon Thank you. I figured if I asked a question from you I would get a quick reply. Women are very good about being prompt with replies on youtube. Thanks again and have a great day.
@@f1948s What a weirdo lol
do i have to have 14-3 wire to connect 4 of these detectors or is it possible to use 14-2?
Hi Calvin, 14-3 wire allows the smoke detectors to be interconnected (so they communicate with each other). So, if one goes off they all will. They will need the 14-3 wire going from each detector to do that. 14-2 wire can be used from the panel to the first detector only. Hope that helps.
@@DaruDhillon thank you very much for the response 14-3 it is
Thanks
Hey there!
Are you from Canada or US?
(I'm from Canada)
If yes, shouldn't the wires be armoured type? 32-102
Thanks
Hi Emilio, I’m from Canada, and this is what is required for local residential work where I live in BC and Toronto. Always follow your local electrical code to do what’s best for your region. Thanks for the question!
@@DaruDhillon Thanks for the reply! I was reading cec 2018 and i was confused about 32-102 because it says it has to be armoured cables but i never seen ot done that way anywhere so i just needed some clarification on that.
My electrian contractor
Install hot wire smoke detector in house ..now stay on the all time .
Any idea what can be?
You can try pressing the test button to reset it. If it doesn’t work I’d call your electrician to fix it. It’s important that your electrician is licensed to avoid potential problems with your wiring and safety. I hope you’re able to solve your issue.
Gorgeous woman and most perfect teeth ever! Oh, and i am sick of my detectors being interconnected and triggering the whole darn system over nothing! going to disconnect the interconnect feature (orange wires)! I hate it!
Please don’t. I hear you. I feel you but interconnected alarms save lives and your life matters.
@@DaruDhillon we have about 8 in a small house, major overkill. i decided i'll bypass the orange wire on all but the basement and one upstairs alarm, so a triggered alarm in the basement can wake people upstairs. you can hear or be woken by one alarm from anywhere. i.e. not all need to be interconnected.
the ridiculously high pitched tone can and will damage hearing (cause tinnitus) if exposed from close up. this is something makers and the regulators who require these don't think of. tinnitus is devastating. they need to lower the frequency of the tone. i first get my ear muffs and ear plugs in before i try to deal with them, and i recommend that to everyone as well. do not work with these things without ear protection. i've had a few false alarms now. trying to shut them off when they are all blaring is difficult. you have to find the initiating alarm, and you have no idea which one it is, and even if you find it in the chaos, you don't know how to silence it. do you press and release, do you press and hold? i can't read the microscopic print without a magnifying glass!
to bypass a given alarm, i just have to remove the orange pig tail wire that connects the alarm out of the connector cap.
i realize you do not need to hear all this, but maybe someone else browsing comments might be interested.
Wow l never see the ELECTRIC princess
This video is for beginners?
Yes. Do you need some help?
why do you need 3 wires? this video is very confusing , you did not explain anything
For a smoke detector to be interconnected they need to have three wires. The third wire allows all smoke detectors in your home to communicate with each other. When one unit goes off they all do. Without that third wire your smoke detectors won’t all go off if one in the basement does. For safety reasons all smoke detectors in your home need to be interconnected. They all require that third wire. Hope that helps.
@@DaruDhillon If you don't have any other smoke detectors you can leave the cap on the red wire? Also, no need to have a ground?
@@eddiebustermuck if you only have one smoke detector you can leave the red wire alone. Lots of old houses don’t have ground wire. Hope that helps Eddie 👋🏽
One lucky husband! You are beautiful!
