- A generation so magnificent and outstanding that Allah chose them to be the friends and companions of His beloved Messenger.
No group of people ever walked the surface of this earth whom our Prophet (peace be upon him) loved more than his beloved companions.
Allah loved this generation to such an extent that from above the seven heavens He revealed verses of the Qur'an in praise of all of them!
They are the best of generations that carried the light of Islam to us and in their lives and sacrifices for Islam we find great role models for us even today.
This generation is none other than the noble Sahabah of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and their status in Sunni Islam is second only to Allah and His Prophets (peace be upon them all).

Sometimes one wonders if the shia even read the Quran. As we learned the Quran is clear on this matter. The sahaba are the best people after the prophets.
the first category who accepted Islam first. lets see who acccepted Islam first and suffered the most. WHEN Abubakr accepted Islam? which year? and when Ali accepted Islam. when Prophet Mohammad PBUH was under sunction and the Qurayesh casted them aside where were Abubakr? Omar and Uthman? Khadeja was with Mohammad PBUH Ali was with Mohammad PBUH and none of those people Sunni believe was with Mohammad PBUH. even base to his NEW definition of Prophet still Abubakr and Omar came way lower than Ali . But he is just making it. i am not sure to which Sunni should i listen. Bukhari or him? Sahih Muslim or him? Sahih Muslim says, any man set with prophet, saw prophet is called Sahaba. wow... I respect sheikh Yasir Qadhi for his knowledge and humble manners but while speaking on the topic of the last few months of Hazart Usman's Caliphate, he didn't present the real picture as written in our Authentic Hadith books and their commentaries.

I agree! Most of the problems that Islam is facing today are due to the "Islamic scholars" of the past 1000 years. They have divided the Muslims into sects and set one against the other! The Quran is the only Book from Allah and everything else is manmade. The Quran has warned us that "Rabbis and monks determined what was lawful and what was not instead of God" (The Quran, 9:31). To be a Muslim is very simple: Belief in one God, that Muhammed is the messenger of God, and that the Quran is the word of God. No one has the right to say or decide who is or who is not a Muslim, this is for Allah to judge! I have respect for Shaikh Yasir Qadhi but here he is simply repeating the standard scholarly line of the sunnis. I am a Muslim and that is the only religious identity that I accept (though classified as a sunni by birth and family)!
So are the companions infallible?? Does the sins and crimes of people who knew Muhammad automatically overlooked??? Is that your stance?

I am not presenting my views here but I don't like people who in order to escape from truth, say this is the view of this and that is it. For example, All the four schools of figh, at least the original imams believe if you don't pray, you are not Muslim. Now, some people say this is the position of this group and that is it, it does not count. The better and more Islamic way is to see the source, compare and then take the one that you think is stronger, that is if you the person has some knowledge to understand what is strong or not strong in terms of sources.
Back to Shia, not all shia are the same. Differently Alawi can't be compared with Ithna-Asheri. Nor are the Zayidi sect be compared with Ithna-Asheri. Each has to be judged according to their believes in terms of fundamental pillars of Islam.

I do not know what you mean by "shady" but Muawiyah was a very capable ruler and did much to expand Islam, so his contributions were substantial! I say this not from a sunni or shia perspective but simply from a historical perspective.

The daughter of Abu Bakr, the wife of the holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family), the mother of believers, Ayesha (may Allah be pleased with her??) waged a war against the sahabi, cousin and the son-in-law of the holy Prophet, a member of the ahlulbayt and the Rightful Caliph of her time, hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). Many people were killed and many were injured.
The holy Prophet (pbuh&hf) had warned Ayesha against this war. The name of this battle is the "Battle of Jamal"
The son of Abu Sufyan and Hind, the father of Yazeed, Mu'awiyyah (may Allah be pleased with him??) waged a war against the sahabi, cousin and the son-in-law of the holy Prophet, a member of the ahlulbayt and the Rightful Caliph of his time, hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). A highly respectable sahabi of the holy Prophet, Ammar bin Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him) was martyred by Mu'awiyyah (may Allah be pleased with him??) in this battle. The name of this battle is the "Battle of Siffeen"
As a free thinking Muslim, I am sure it is my right to raise some questions in the light of such episodes, such as:-
1. How on earth can Allah be ever pleased with the oppressed and the oppressors at the same time? If this is not the mockery of Islam, what else is it?
2. Can a sahabi of the holy Prophet (pbuh&hf) be a warmonger, an evil monger, an oppressor and an unjust?
3. Can a warmonger, an evil monger, an oppressor and an unjust be a sahabi of the holy Prophet?
4. What is the definition of a sahabi?
5. If you were present at the time, whose side would you have taken and on what grounds?
6. What would you say about someone who wages war, transgresses against the family member of your own Prophet and spills their blood?
6. Did Ayesha, Mu'awiyyah and their followers accept hazrat Ali as the Rightful of their time or what?
7. What does Allah tell the wives of the holy Prophet about leaving their homes in Surah Ahzab?
8. Did Ayesha, Mu'awiyyah and their followers pray namaz/salat or what? In their salat/namaz, did they send blessings upon their Prophet AND HIS FAMILY or what - allahumma salli alaa muhammadinw wa aale muhammad?
9. One wonders what kind of beings were these people who sent their blessings upon their Prophet and his family in their prayers and at the same time oppress them, wag wars against them and spill their blood.
10. One wonders where does your loyalty lie. You claim to love the holy Prophet, his ahlulbayt and at the same time you revere and associate with their enemies?
Allah did not save the son of Prophet Nuh (a.s.) from His wrath. Allah did not spare the uncle of the Holy Prophet (pbuh&hf), Abu Lahab from his curse in the holy Qur'an. Likewise, Allah did not spare the wives of Prophet Nuh and Prophet Lut (peace be upon the two) because of their wrong doing and evil mongering. What makes Muslims think that the sahabas and the wives of the holy Prophet (P) can get away with warmongering and other kinds of corruptions?
11. What kind of role models and examples can such people be for the Muslim ummah?
12. How can such people whose hands were drenched in the blood of the holy Prophet's family be a source of guidance for the Muslims?
13. We are told that the wives of the holy Prophet are included in the ahlulbayt referred to in chapter 33 verse 33. What would one say when one of the wives of the holy Prophet wages war against a sahabi of the holy Prophet, a member of the ahlulbayt, flesh and blood of the holy Prophet as well as his son-in-law?
14, Please read the first twelve verses of Sura Tahrim.
Bearing Allah as your witness, think very carefully what kind of sources are you trying to seek Islamic guidance from and where do you expect to find yourself on the Day of Judgement.

I would say that rather than ascribing blame to Ayesha only, the responsibility for this shameful event lies with both parties, that is Ali and Ayesha! However, it is not for us to judge, that is only for Allah. But this event does show that while we rightly respect both Ayesha and Ali, they were not perfect and capable of making mistakes as all humans do. That applies even more so to the sahaba! Not even the Prophet was perfect and we know that from the Quran, even though he was the best of humans! Perfection and infallibility belong to Allah only!

In order to justify the evil deeds, mischief mongering and corruption of some of sahabas, you have accused the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him and his holy ahlulbayt) of being fallible and liable to make mistakes. If such is your belief and understanding about the Holy Prophet then everything becomes doubtful which includes Islam, Qur'an, sharia'h, qiyamah, etc.
People about whom Allah Himself testifies in the holy Qur'an of their purity, infallibility and perfection, you have thrown out of the window just like that. Wallahi you need to study the Islamic beliefs from the scratch and through the right channel.

@@Gulamqambar Sir it is not I whose understanding is weak about Islam but yourself. To say that the Prophet was incapable of making mistakes, you obviously have not read the Quran where in a couple of places Allah reprimands the Prophet of making mistakes. In the Quran, the Prophet "frowned and turned away , because there came to him the blind man (interrupting)" (The Quran, 80:1-12). The Prophet is reprimanded by Allah that he should not have turned his back on the poor blind man because he was in conversation with wealthy Quraish chiefs. Elsewhere he is told by Allah that he should not have forbidden what Allah had allowed. If you have any understanding about Islam you should know that there is only one Allah and no one else is His equal. Only Allah is infallible (incapable of mistakes) and perfect, and to ascribe these qualities to a human, no matter how exalted, is shirk! So I respect the Prophet as the best among all humans, but he was human and nowhere can I or should I make him the equal of Allah! That is shirk indeed! It is the most serious offense and separates you from Islam!

Amazing. I have an issue with the rational aspect of this. If all Sahabas are undoubtable, it makes no sense how the world has gona corrupt. If there were 120,00 righteous individuals present in the world, there would surely be a revolution that would preserve justice and righteousness until today. What we saw after the Prophet (s) says otherwise. That instead of maintaining justice, they started killing each other. So they cannot all be logically righteous.
They can make mistakes they can sin however the people categorized as sahaba and especially authentic hadith narrators are not maliciously evil.

One question from Sunni Brothers and sisters, why after death of Prophet Mohammad PBUH there were so many feud and argument and war and killing between Sahaba? Read Sahih Muslim and Sahih Bukhari, clear naration says, Fatima the daughter of Prophet PBUH died angry with Abubakr. Mohammad PBUH said anyone anger Fatima angers me. now Abubakr is gone in rubbish bin ONLY for this. Also, where were ALI when Abubakr was chosen/? and how many people chose Abubakr? lol
