Very interesting videos you always have.
Love watching these projects and you have a great voice.

Well you did well to figure out the resistors were broken but good luck in working with surface mount components. They are so fiddly to work with. Good try though. 👍👍👍

Surface mount is bad enough, but the surface tracks have degraded so finding enough copper to solder to is the biggest issue. Each time I do it, a little more disappears.

that green stuff is called solder mask iirc. big clive did a video about those wax housing led candles some time ago.

Yes, you will find I refer to him and there are related links in the video description. However the issue is around the way the copper tracks have degraded under whatever that deposit was that I cleaned off. Possibly wine, coke, or even bird poo dropped down the chimney. Whatever it was, it was corrosive and ate the copper.

In December I will have a few of those candles running all evening! I really like them, they resemble a real candle very well (when seen from a distance). Most of them have an 8 hour on, 16 hours off timer, which is great. They run on 3 AA batteries (mine does) and I use 2 dummy AA batteries and 1LiFePo4 battery (3.3 to 3.4 Volts). It runs about a week on one charge, and the LED is not too bright. The reason for LiFePo4 is because it's working voltage. A Lipo goes from 4.2 down to 3 Volts, while LiFePo4 from 3.4 to 3.3 and then tapers off real quick (telling you it is time to change it). Also most LED's will strop drawing current below 2.5 Volts, which is the lowest you can go on LiFePo4. A real win-win situation.

My wife likes them in the fireplace, gives a warm feeling without actually giving any heat 😊

Can you imagine what that entire thing would look like all done with vacuum tubes ?

You wouldn't have needed the LED for the flickering light, the tubes would do that for you 😆👍
