Good looks tend to fade out but the mind never does, it only grows. The face is not a picture of itself, it's the mirror of it's mind. That's why good portrait art at all times needs to capture the soul of it's subject. Something that starts to happen in this painting of a man. I especially love the eyes in this portrait. It's often in the eyes, the eyes of people reflect the desires of their passions. Eyes in artworks have something special, they often say more then words can. Eyes are very similar to drawings in that regard, if you can say it in words there's no need to draw it... I guess art is a reflection of what we allow ourselves to see.
"if you never find that breaking point for a painting, then you'll never know how good it might be" Wow. Amazing advice. Something I struggle with. Getting to a point where I fall in love with where it's at and I don't want to screw it up by doing anything else to it.
THIS! After years of designing on a computer i miss the security of "undo." More often than not I fail to push thing further out of fear that I will ruin it.
Can feel the emotion + struggle of your subjects. Also the great love and compassion you have for those you give a face to. Inspiring to me as an Artist myself
Thanks so much! There's some really exciting new episodes coming soon for Season 2. Make sure to subscribe to see them when they go up! Not long now...
Been following him for quite a while now on Instagram. Always inspired by his work and style. So awesome to hear his view and see what his work is all about 🤙🏼🎣🎨
I literally justed started painting! I'm doing my second piece. And I started binge-watching art and paint-related videos until I pass out in the middle of the night. It's so fascinating. And I'm starting to realize that I might have missed an opportunity, in college, when I decided I didn't wanna listen in art history classes. The whole thing about movements and styles is just getting closer and closer to my heart and I just feel like feeding off of it for days nonstop.
omg I do the same thing. I destroy it, leave it and come back to it and create some of my best work that way but never waste a canvas. Your work is awesome! Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
Thanks heaps man! Really appreciate the positive feedback. And actually that's a really good idea. I'll start doing that from now on - linking their work in the description. Thanks for the tip!
Thanks for your candid coaxing of going that one step further...i am painting a portrait at this moment and wondering do i let it stay "pretty" or go deeper into the emotion...hmmm?? it is a commission.... mother and daughter who are beautiful... maybe i need to do a non commission and go further... thanks again for the inspiration!
Hi man, this is the first video I saw and subscribed immediately, lol. Quality is amazing, excellent direction, and very inspirational. I am an illustrator myself and absolutely love these kinds of vids that showcase artists from all walks of life. Please keep em coming!
Joshua your paint is pretty cool. Although I want to comment on the statement that says that your painting should always go further and try to see what’s up by adding up layers and processes depending on your thoughts of the moment. Well about this, I think that it should be done on a number of different artworks, and each time see how far it can go in the process, our of the first stroke.
Love your work mate. Do you start your paintings with a projector. Just noticed your starting lines are so perfect in a big scale painting. Is that how you start?
@@billyspocketlife ok billy i understand. i will download photoshop and try tomorrow. i will tell you what happened in the end and what i chose. and again thanks and forgiveness if the translations are not always correct.
@1:09 Does anyone know how a tracing of an image can be done with Adobe PS as shown here. Which layers/tools should be used etc. Is a graphic tablet required/recommended or can it simply be done with an ordinary mouse? Can anyone help me out? I'm such a noob on PS. Many Thanks!
Looks like he used used the posterize image option in Photoshop and then outlined the blocked gradation of the values either by hand or with the magic wand tool. Just my assumption. Hope it helps👍.

Love your work mate. Do you start your paintings with a projector. Just noticed your starting lines are so perfect in a big scale painting. Is that how you start?
Yes I would imagine he uses a projector. He’s essentially doing paint by numbers on a large scale

They all paint the same stuff nowadays, i am sick of those pseudo-abstract big faces. Just my humble opinion. Good luck anyway sir.
My atelier, is at least, a better organized than this !
Artists are weird
U finished paintings. Utter bore
Meh, just paint by numbers. No deep meaning in this art
Great work
