The thing is my piggies aren't new at all they are about 1 year old, and my other two are less than than but not close to babies. They just are very skittish and we don't have room for hidey houses on their cages
Buddy, that is not enough for 3 of them. Get them hidey houses or you, your hand and anything big around them will feel like a predator that they cant hide from. Of course they don't like you yet. They have to be extremely careful with anything that comes close, so they defend themselves. If you can't get any better housing for them try this: Get a tote that is not that big in height but more flat and wide. then get a blanket and always keep half of it covered so they can run under there if they want to. That way they will have a possibility to hide whenever they want and will start becoming more relaxed, even in your presence. Then slowly make them grow comfortable near you. It will work, i promise.

Try leaving something that smells like you near the cage (or in it if they won't eat it). They'll be able to have your scent with them when you're not physically there
He lost the trust in you. Mine were some vacations so sad, that one of them bite in my finger when I come home. Don't be too sad, try to get your friendship back. Do what is sayn in the video. You piggy will accept you again if he can see that you won't leave again :)
Oh no😔 I hope you got your friendship back with him. ❤️(this is kind of a reason why I don't want to go on holiday and leave them behind) although that may have been because if you only have the one guinea pig they may have been lonely which could have contributed to them losing trust in you?
The tip about talking to the pigs has helped them feel even more comfy around me and has also helped my mental health as I can tell them anything without judgement and or ways I can change other peoples views on me and It fells nice not having someone shove their opinions down your throat while also not telling the guilt of shoving your opinions down their throat

I've had my Piggies for three years now and saw this video just before I got them. It really helped how I shaped our bonding sessions. All I have do now is call "Pigpigs" ou "Moulous" and they all run up squeaking, it's such a rewarding experience ! Thanks little Adventures for your videos!
I’m getting two guinea pigs in a couple of weeks. I made a diy home for them. It’s a pretty big size, a little bit bigger than the one in this video and this video is very helpful. I hope my guinea pigs will start to get used to me and love me. 🤗❤️
I got my two Guinea pigs last Wednesday (two previously bonded male adults from a small animal sanctuary) They already eat from my hand and sometimes they get excited when I walk in the room or open their bag of hay. When I feed them or clean their cage sometimes they will follow my hand around sniffing it making little wheeking sounds. I havent tried to handle them yet as they will let me sort of pet their nose but arent fond of me touching anywhere else. That last tip of playing with the food in your hand is genius! I cant wait to try that at their next veggie snack time!!! So hard not to dream of having a herd like yours when i watch these videos!!
Livy Bug I was only allowed to get one, and she is perfectly fine without another Guinea Pig. She behaves as any normal one would. I don't see a problem with having just one, especially if you give it proper care and attention. Don't start getting on this person just because they can only get one. It's not like they had a choice. Chill out.
Some guinea pigs are fine on their own, so you aren't in the worst shape :) though people do say it is better to get two, but there isn't a law against getting one. You can also give it lots of love and attention. It's fine, I wouldn't worry about it :)
Alfa GaMingGirl it will be fine! i have 2 guinea pigs, but they are currently split up and in separate places as one of them are new (i got yesterday) my other guinea pig was fine after my last one died, you just need to give it more attention they you would if you had 2
I don't know what to do😭 so I have had my Guinea pig for years and I wanted her to be friends with me too soon I made mistakes I picked her up things like that and she still always bits me I try to give her my hand and a treat and all she does is bit it will she be nicer if she has another friend. It's so hard for me when I got her she was my first pet so I was not really great and I was only 9 or 10 . I have been doing what you said for months but nothing works😭
If it’s new then that mistake what ur doing is doing a terrible thing because hamsters and guinea pigs are scared and shy so maybe u have to let them have 10 minutes to relax and have heir time
Caitlin Boyle I would recommend getting her a friend because guinea pigs can not live alone. If you have only 1 guinea pig it's not happy and probably sad. Maybe it will help.
This is super helpful! My guinea pig Murray loves to be held but hates being picked up so I used the toy tunnel trick and he seems a lot more comfortable around my hands now.
Thank you so much. I tried some of these things to my guinea pigs Zoe and Ash and they were still shy. But they are the cutest things ever. When I hand-feed them they take a few seconds to trust me. And also every time they hear something they seriously jump and run around the cage. They get alarmed easily. Thank you so much your channel is the best one ever.
You are very blessed, and to be able, to have all these little buds & all of the time and etc needed. The enrichment they provide to your life gives you a life expectancy boost just as dogs do.
Like many pets they respond well to repetition and routine. It is great to chat with them, and if you do so often, they become very talkative. I love seeing them respond to your calling them on your vids. ☺️❤️🐹

I just got my two piggies yesterday and was wondering why they were so scared of me because I kept trying to pick them up and pet them. Glad I saw this since sometimes it’s hard to see that others see you as the threat.
I also got piggies a few days ago, I have so far petted them and hand fed them, haven’t been able to pick them up yet, I want them to fully trust me before I do. How are yours doing?!
@@gracelauren1861 been trying out the trick for getting them into my hand. Pip isn’t as trusting but Sqeak will do anything for tests so she finally climbed into my hand for the first time tonight. She then bit me thinking I was an apple but so far it’s been going well. Not super fast but definitely starting to trust me.
@@nanonova5909 yesterday I was able to pick Hershey up and put her in a pen (I think that’s what it’s called lol) so I could clean her cage. Sadly she wouldn’t let me get her back in her cage so I had to put it on the floor for her to climb in. And every time I put my hand near her to pet her she tries to bite me😂
@@gracelauren1861 She probably thinks your food or a danger then. If it’s the former make sure to keep a treat or wood for them to chew on instead and if it’s the latter maybe try to slowly convince her to let you hold her. pip doesn’t like being held much but Sqeak loves affection she’s just kind of dumb and thinks everything is food. She started learning to lick my hand and when she realized it’s not food she stopped biting.
@@nanonova5909 I don’t think she thinks I’m a danger because she gets excited every time she sees or hears me. And she does have quite a few wood toys in her cage. She’s getting more used to me she just gets scared of my dog and other things like that.

I had guinea pigs when I was really young and it's funny now to think how tame they were, they had to problem being picked up and were happy to cuddle in and steal food while I was eating it, love u linny + elvis miss u lots 💘💘

I then noticed that in your videos, you said that guinea pigs need friends and big cages and lords of toys. So today we are going to get a new guinea pig. Wish me luck!
It took my guinea pig a few years to really be able to be comfortable around me. Now is he well trained and so much fun to watch during his floor time. I have a little cat bed he retreats to and takes naps in during floor time. He doesn't like being held on placed in my lap but he'll watch tv on the couch for a while as long as he has his little bed. Eventually he gets restless and goes back to exploring. Having that safe zone and avoiding swooping in really helped build his trust.

Do not get a guinea pig for your class. Their needs are complicated and even if you give them the best of your care, them would be scared by all the students and new noises. How would you take care of them at the weekend
I really enjoy your videos. I have a happy little guinea pig name lucky! He is adorable wish i could show you. He never bites, never poops outside of his area and allows you to do anything but flip him over and rub his belly. He does let put his paws on my finger and I lift him up a little to rub his tummy on occasion. He's the first animal I've owned that didnt freak out when you touched their paws.

Did you try the tips in the how to teach your guinea pigs their name long enough? Because the video is all about conditioning, which is a concept that's been working for over a hundred years :) Guinea pigs even condition themselves involuntarily (e.g. the opening of the fridge). This process takes weeks/months but it works really well.
Pets at home told me I could start trying to handle a day after I bring them home .....::.: so I did this morning ........would this effect how they will think of me now !!! 😡😭😭😭😭😭

They have places to hide, and when you said let them get used to your voice, I gave them some hay, which they are very much enjoying right now😂and the "Food makes the heart grow fonder" I held out a carrot and they munched on it for a while. I will do anything to tame my piggies, so I sat there for over 5 minuits (sorry I can't spell miniut right😩) I always chase them so I better stop that... Whoops! I would do the play with food thing but my guinea pigs would just eat my hand off sadly😅 I'll try though! My mom always tells me to give the piggies some love and I always chase them and just grab them. I'll explain to her that I can't pick them up like that anymore. I will try to fix all my mistakes, and soon we are getting a cage like yours! I have 2 guinea pigs but soon I'll have 5 or 6! sorry if I took up so much of your time, Love your videos!

I can't afford bigger cages we basiclly put them in walmart totes as big aas we could get. and they are see through so we can keep an eye on them

You are very blessed, and to be able, to have all these little buds & all of the time and etc needed. The enrichment they provide to your life gives you a life expectancy boost just as dogs do.
Like many pets they respond well to repetition and routine. It is great to chat with them, and if you do so often, they become very talkative. I love seeing them respond to your calling them on your vids. ☺️❤️🐹

I just got my two piggies yesterday and was wondering why they were so scared of me because I kept trying to pick them up and pet them. Glad I saw this since sometimes it’s hard to see that others see you as the threat.
I also got piggies a few days ago, I have so far petted them and hand fed them, haven’t been able to pick them up yet, I want them to fully trust me before I do. How are yours doing?!
@@gracelauren1861 been trying out the trick for getting them into my hand. Pip isn’t as trusting but Sqeak will do anything for tests so she finally climbed into my hand for the first time tonight. She then bit me thinking I was an apple but so far it’s been going well. Not super fast but definitely starting to trust me.
@@nanonova5909 yesterday I was able to pick Hershey up and put her in a pen (I think that’s what it’s called lol) so I could clean her cage. Sadly she wouldn’t let me get her back in her cage so I had to put it on the floor for her to climb in. And every time I put my hand near her to pet her she tries to bite me😂
@@gracelauren1861 She probably thinks your food or a danger then. If it’s the former make sure to keep a treat or wood for them to chew on instead and if it’s the latter maybe try to slowly convince her to let you hold her. pip doesn’t like being held much but Sqeak loves affection she’s just kind of dumb and thinks everything is food. She started learning to lick my hand and when she realized it’s not food she stopped biting.
@@nanonova5909 I don’t think she thinks I’m a danger because she gets excited every time she sees or hears me. And she does have quite a few wood toys in her cage. She’s getting more used to me she just gets scared of my dog and other things like that.

I had guinea pigs when I was really young and it's funny now to think how tame they were, they had to problem being picked up and were happy to cuddle in and steal food while I was eating it,

Little adventures, you are the one that inspired me to get a guinea pig. Luckily, my friend didn't want her guinea pig so we took care of her. I then noticed that in your videos, you said that guinea pigs need friends and big cages and lords of toys. So today we are going to get a new guinea pig. Wish me luck!
It took my guinea pig a few years to really be able to be comfortable around me. Now is he well trained and so much fun to watch during his floor time. I have a little cat bed he retreats to and takes naps in during floor time. He doesn't like being held on placed in my lap but he'll watch tv on the couch for a while as long as he has his little bed. Eventually he gets restless and goes back to exploring. Having that safe zone and avoiding swooping in really helped build his trust.

Do not get a guinea pig for your class. Their needs are complicated and even if you give them the best of your care, them would be scared by all the students and new noises. How would you take care of them at the weekend

I really enjoy your videos. I have a happy little guinea pig name lucky! He is adorable wish i could show you. He never bites, never poops outside of his area and allows you to do anything but flip him over and rub his belly. He does let put his paws on my finger and I lift him up a little to rub his tummy on occasion. He's the first animal I've owned that didnt freak out when you touched their paws.

That's normal. The key is to give them time. Let them adjust before they become your best friends :)

it could be really annoyed or it is just hungry or she/he is looking for food
It means it’s shy scared or maybe hungry
It means they made a misconception and thought your hand was a veggie/fruit

Did you try the tips in the how to teach your guinea pigs their name long enough? Because the video is all about conditioning, which is a concept that's been working for over a hundred years :) Guinea pigs even condition themselves involuntarily (e.g. the opening of the fridge). This process takes weeks/months but it works really well.

Thank you! I know this will help so much! My guinea pigs are extremely skittish so it might take a while but I will do it for them! They have places to hide, and when you said let them get used to your voice, I gave them some hay, which they are very much enjoying right now😂and the "Food makes the heart grow fonder" I held out a carrot and they munched on it for a while. I will do anything to tame my piggies, so I sat there for over 5 minuits (sorry I can't spell miniut right😩) I always chase them so I better stop that... Whoops! I would do the play with food thing but my guinea pigs would just eat my hand off sadly😅 I'll try though! My mom always tells me to give the piggies some love and I always chase them and just grab them. I'll explain to her that I can't pick them up like that anymore. I will try to fix all my mistakes, and soon we are getting a cage like yours! I have 2 guinea pigs but soon I'll have 5 or 6! sorry if I took up so much of your time, Love your videos!
