      Another great bunny-related fertilizer you can use is the pellets they eat (e.g. Kaytee Timothy hay pellets). There are different brands and you can get huge bags (20-40lbs) for just a few dollars. I have a pet bunny and I use his little Cocoa Puffs plus his leftover hay and pellets (he's a super-picky eater, LOL) for my garden. My soil is black gold!

    So we started a compost area over the summer and I threw tomatoes in there that we'd missed and were rotting or had bad bug damage. I now have tomato plants volunteering in my compost pile in Northern pope county Arkansas! 🤣 so crazy how life begins to regrow anywhere.

    Great video, Jill! We raised rabbits for meat when I was growing up (60+ years ago) and my dad ALWAYS used the resulting manure on his organic garden. Rabbit manure and leaves gave us a GLORIOUS garden! I was raised right, girl, even though I felt deprived of Wonder Bread, Campbells Soup and Green Giant Corn in a tin can 🥴. 🎶 don’t it always seem to go, thatcha don’t know whatcha got til it’s gone 🎵.

    Very informative! You're absolutely right about the poultry manure. One of my tomato/pepper beds will not grow them because my husband was having the kiddos dumping it in there when we were building it. I told them not to, but he told them to do it. I couldn't figure out why my pepper transplants kept dieing. We got some purple sugarcane plants from Deep South Homestead. I didn't have any place to plant them and saw they love nitrogen rich soil. They're sprouting there and loving it. I'm hoping they'll fix my bed because they dumped 3 to 4 coops worth in it. That's how we learn. I really want to cave to the kiddos on rabbits with your videos.

    My 2 little bratty house bunnies give us piles and piles of manure. And then I can grow tons of lettuce to feed the rabbits to make more poo to make more lettuce and round and round we go😂. I love being able to throw it right on the garden while the chicken and horse poo decomposes.

    I am building custom rabbit hutches that have a funnel style catch basin under the wire floor... Which fill 5 gallon buckets with rabbit poo and pee and a little bit of vegetation..
    Then pouring those 5 gallon buckets into a poop soup with water in a larger bin that has a 2 inch camlock drain in the bottom.. (lower half of an IBC tote)
    Then flowing it all through a custom fitted RV macerator originally designed for RV sewer tank. effectively turns this poop soup into liquid rabbit effluent that can then be sprayed or poured directly on the garden..
    I'm not sure why but I don't see anybody else doing this....

      I recently bought a sifter on Amazon, it's round & have 4-5 different sizes that comes with it. I use the large sifter so that tye mature & small pieces of hay fall into a bucket, & the large hay pices stay in the softer. I dump the hay back in with the rabbots, then I use the one with smaller holes, & I tale the manure & small pices & run it back through, so that the manure stays in the sifter & only the small pices fall out. I then am left with only rabbit manure & dump lthat in a separate bucket. It's a good chore for my 10 year old or for me when I'm outside watch the kids play!

    I love my rabbit manure! It is 2x more nutrient-rich than chicken manure! Better than ANY other manure! It is so well rounded with nitrogen, phosphorus, calcium, zinc, manganese, copper and more! Great Video Jill! One large rabbit can produce 14lb of manure in a month! A great return on investment in my opinion lol. How did the kohlrabi hash come out?? You really only need the manure...2 cups per 5gal bucket then fill with water. Easy Peasy!

    • @IndianaBackyardGardener
      @IndianaBackyardGardener 2 года назад +1

      @@allthingsmj the urine is fine as long as you're not putting it directly near any roots. The urine is rich in nitrogen. However, you could always sundry it if that is possible for you. I set out the manure on a lid from a tote, then it would dry for about 3 days. That was the manure that got packaged for sale

    This was the POOPIEST video i have ever seen! (LOVED IT) BTW: coffee grounds and kitchen scraps are considered "green" waste. Leaves and grass clippings (dried) are "brown". Shredded newspaper is brown as well. The general ratio for composting is 1/3 green to 2/3 brown in a bin. Maintain that and you will not have it start stinking. If it does... add more brown. I put holes in the bottom (for the worms to enter) and set it on the ground. I set it up on a plant stand to I water it (all living things need water) ... and catch the "worm tea" in a bucket under it for watering or spraying. I love my worms, I do. Thanks for the how to video. I was always told that rabbit poop burned the lawn. Working with landscapers... i now know the rabbits chew it to the ground. Their poop is only evidence it was "them."

    I am a fan of active aerate worm tea and compost tea. Now we have to get rabbits for rabbit tea....errr...rabbit poop tea. lol. Are you using well water or city water? I asked because here our city uses chlorine which can kill the bad and good bacteria that will help feed the microbes in the mix and soil. You can add a vitamin C packet to the water before adding the mix and it will help get rid of the chlorine in the water.
    Where did you get that bucket from? That seems like a nice airtight food container bucket for dry goods or something.
    This was a great video. Thanks for sharing.
