Rode one of these on Tuesday. Really good handling bike with a very strong mid range making it ideal for fast road progress. Quickshifter was also spot on.
Thanks for the review, very interesting TAYM. I test rode one of these on Thursday and loved it. To be honest, I was all set to order the CB750 Hornet but after trying this new GSX 8S I've been turned. Have to say that both bikes are superb but overall the Suzuki won me over. In my opinion, it feels a more substantial bike and not quite as cramped as the Honda. Heavier, with a bigger wheelbase gives the GSX a more stable and sure footed feel on the road and into corners. Better ride too (for me). The low to mid range punch on that GSX is bloody fantastic, although the CB750 is not that far behind and the Honda does perform a bit better at the top end. For me personally, and by the time the Quickshifter option has been added to the Honda, I'm quite happy to pay the extra 750 quid to have the GSX 8S.

As mentioned before, this bike is on my to do list, but in the looks department, I still think it is a bit too pointy at the front, but I do like the back. Nice to see them introducing colour to the engine casings too, hopefully getting away from all black. You did look like you were having fun, zooming in where naughtiness took over. Morning TAYM . To me this and the Hornet are in a different class to the SV , a higher performance level bike altogether. The SV is really aimed at the new rider and smaller people with its seat height and clever " no stall" rev thingy. My local Suzuki dealer's were REALLY happy when I told them the waiting time on the Hornet is now September! ... it will give them a better chance to sell some 8S's Picked up my new CL500 in green yesterday .... chuffed!
Surprisingly, the SV is also much quicker than the Hornet but I know what you mean. Honda will appeal to a much bigger audience I think but I definitely prefer the 8s 😁 it’s a shame I can’t get on a CL, a real contender for my winter bike😁 thanks DJ 😁
If they put some chrome twin clocks like yr triumph or z900. From yr pov looking fwd from the camera that iPad block kills it for me. I feel the same about modern cars. My friends c class merc the inside is plain unappealing to me. Good job all different.
Nice review Mr TAYM, my brother had the previous 750 version loved the engine and handling but found it was very uncomfortable after about 40 minutes so he changed to a Triumph 900.
Another bike i want to get a test ride on. Even though the Hornet has more bhp, is lighter and £1K cheaper, this 8S speaks to me more. Not sure about the styling, i'm getting a bit old for this modern pointy styling on todays bikes. Also i really dont like where the rear light is. But i will test ride one, even though its unlikely i'll want it to replace my current naked street, Yam XSR9.
@@TAYM I'm sure i will like the engine and 83bhp is easily enough for me these days. It would also be nice to have another Suzuki to go with my Strom. I will certainly get a ride on one in the next couple of weeks.
@@TAYM Test rode it today. liked it much more than i expected and i instantly felt at home on it. Loved the low down torque of this engine and how it went on all different sorts of roads, town, open road and twistys. I still think the looks are a bit modern for me, but i'm seriously considering buying one. Trade in price offered on my XSR was very good.
Loved the review 👍 I've just got my brand new SV and yes I'd love this especially in black but I also got a cracking deal on my SV and couldn't really stretch to this £1500 more without free service for 2 years like I got, double the APR and more insurance ......will work up to this then 😊👍 Keep up the great reviews
So yesterday I managed to test ride this bike courtesy of the nice people at Crescent Motorcycles in Bournemouth. As it happens the same dealer but in a different location (Southampton) that I rode the Honda Hornet. I should perhaps add that riding a bike on familiar roads (on the Suzuki) is a very different experience to riding on unknown roads (Honda) exacerbated by our common enemy the proliferation of pot holes (in some cases craters might be a better description). Rant over. First impressions of the Suzuki pretty much coincide with those of this review. It's a very nice, well built bike and loads of fun to ride. I can't honestly think of anything substantial I don't like about the bike. Most of the differences between the Suzuki and Honda come down to nit picking or personal preference. I would suggest, as has already been said, the Suzuki feels a bit more "substantial" but perhaps at the expense of the Honda feeling a bit more "raw". Dare I sat the Honda, unexpectedly perhaps, is a bit more "exciting" to ride. Of course it could be said the trepidation of what crater might be just round the corner whilst out on the Honda might have added to the "excitement". At the end of the day though both bikes are a step up from the previous king of the middleweights, the MT07 (IMHO and I used to own one). I'd be happy to own either Suzuki or Honda as the pros and cons of both bikes tend to cancel each other out so perhaps it just comes down to personal preference... Except. The elephant(s) in the room.... The Suzuki is a grand more (£750 if you include the quick shifter on the Honda) and I'm still struggling to find why I'd pay the extra but, on the other side, you'd be lucky to get a Honda before the autumn and I think the lead times are getting longer and longer. On the brighter side... Two great bikes to choose from. Aren't we lucky.
Well put. To be fair Honda has often historically been tainted by the worthy but dull, safe, a bit ‘meh’ moniker with Suzuki’s being the opposite. However it seems the tables have been turned here. You nailed it with your write up.
I have to say TAYM I find myself quite liking this one luvin those evil looks especially in the black , this or the Hornet that's not an easy one very interesting and surprised the Suzuki has the top end on the Hornet . I have always tended to be more a Suzuki person than a Honda one really it's just how it is . The twins are taking over and for single rider use since these seat "well " they don't exist really like the center stands why ? . This would come down to price and height for me with comfort thrown in between these two , but I would still have to have a classic looking styled bike in the garage as well , I am not sure this style has the longevity of the classic style of bike . I think eventually this style will look dated ( or maybe not time will tell I guess ) .Much enjoyed and definitely chilly chocolate with an impressive turn of speed too .Coooool 😉👌👍
As an American who is starved for information on this bike - particularly rider reviews, I was super excited to see this come up I just spent 25 minutes of my life to hear “hhaaauuggghhh” and the bike is “naughty” and tastes like chocolate with liquor inside. What in the actual fucksticks was the point of this?? Honest question for a new viewer. Also would have liked to see some actual RPM riding. Was painful to watch 30kph in 6th gear for kilometers on end. I understand that every channel is not for every person, and that’s fine. I think your personality is great if it’s interspersed with some actual facts, specifications and details about what you’re feeling and how the bike operates. Something like: “The GSX-8S comes standard with a quick shifter HAAUGGGHH. It’s smooth and easy to use, which is naughty.” Good luck on your future videos. I’ll take any new GSX-8S content I can get, I’m just starved for actual rider feedback.
This is not a review, it is a test ride. The fact you think that it was ridden at 30kph tells me you weren’t paying attention to facts when they were given. It also tells me you didn’t read either my profile or the description. I deliberately didn’t mention the quick shifter because the bikes in the same category which I have recently ridden and most compare it to, didn’t have one. The next video on this bike will have more about the traction control and separate fuelling selection, quick shifter, more on the BHP and top speed and how it is achieved. Again the fact you even thought that it spent most of its time at 30 KPH tells me you either only watched a fraction of the video and have little respect for the laws on English roads. I would be grateful if you could let me know what specific facts you would like. Thanks PG 😁
Yeah, this is awful. Putting around, rambling on with a bunch of nonsense, and claiming it's faster than the Hornet for some unknown reason. Makes no sense.
It's a bit of a bugger when you don't know the speed limit on a unfamiliar road and there's not a nice policeman around to tell you....oh hang on what am I saying.
Good review but I'll stick with my SV1000. Had the 650 K5 for 5 years - loved it and being a Suzuki dead simple to improve. I ride those roads quite often and I have to say you have more faith in the road conditions than I do considering the whole of Suffolk is one big pothole. Great to see Orwell getting some air time too
Thanks CC 😁 yes the roads in Suffolk are just appalling. Beyond belief round us with the A14 issues pushing more and more traffic onto the back rounds which are already knackered. It’s crazy 😕
Another trustworthy review. Thanks. Too bad about the speed limits there. Where I live those country lanes are 55 mph. Nearer the town 45. Highway around 70 but nobody bothers you at 80+. Of course being able to open 'er up once in awhile is the fun bit.😊 Have a great weekend. I won't be riding for another week as I'm helping my daughter remodel her house. Which is a good thing. But I do dwell on thinking of my poor stationery motorcycles.😂
The thing is... Why would I pay a grand more for a bike with less power than the Honda??? Personally I prefer the looks of the Suzuki (though that's subjective) but that's a pretty huge price difference to justify.
@@TAYM So the quick shifter reduces the deficit by £250... I'm dubious about the quoted figures for top speed. Only time will tell as, ostensibly, that doesn't make sense unless there's some limiting or gearing issues to be taken into consideration. Similarly acceleration and BHP. I think we may need some real world tests (correct me if I'm wrong here). That or I'll be believing manufacturers quoted MPG figures😉 As for comfort. That may well have something to do with seat height as you're a tall chap and the Honda may be better suited to my less lofty stature. I certainly had no issues on the Honda when I test rode it. I'm waiting for a ride on the Suzuki (though have a deposit on the Honda to make sure I can get one this year)😔 The Suzuki going to need to go some to make up for the now slightly reduced price difference. Regards the looks of the Hornet. For whatever reason most of the test bikes seem to be white or yellow which, IMHO, are the worst of the bunch The grey with black frame is much better (subjectively). I also kinda like the "wolf in sheeps clothing" look of the Honda. At the end of the day... I guess both will have their devotees and, if the BSA Gold Star owners (of which I'm one) and the RE Interceptor owners are anything to go by, then no doubt there will be some unjustified animosity between them. Buy the one that (figuratively of course) floats your boat.
@@CosmikDebriis absolutely agree. The problem we have nowadays is that there are no real bad bikes, just different bikes and my particular problem is I love them all. I have a video coming soon on the NC750X which I think will surprise a lot of my viewers 😁😂😂 each to there own I say😁 but I’ve yet to ride a bad bike this year😁
@@TAYM As an owner of an NC 750S I can honestly say it's an amazing bike and probably as much as anyone could need in the real world. Immensely practical and with a real gem of an engine (more British twin feeling than the Interceptor IMHO). If I had to have only one bike. I'd like to think It would be one of those. In reality though... I'd probably own something entirely impractical because that's just the way I am. Will be interesting to see your review because I get a hint from your other reviews that you're going to like it.

What a marvellous enthusiastic review of this naughty boy bike, I'm paying close attention to your mannerisms for reasons soon to be revealed 🕵️😉 From the side it's quite similar to the KTM Duke but from the front it's even more insectoid looking ( "good for piercing pedestrians" lol I love that one. 😂 As for what dog it would be, I think it would have to be a Greyhound or a Whippet 🤔
Looks the naughty boy bike image to a T. Since I don't have a Suzuki dealer close to me the closest comparison I have would be the Kawasaki and Yamaha contenders at my local dealer. They also have Honda, but no Hornet to compare it to. I wouldn't mind taking the Yamaha MT, in either (or both) sizes for a nice ride.
It's not about top speed but how you get there & tourqe delivery & handling.I'd give up 140mph for 125mph & better handling & tourqe delivery oh 😲 sounds like a Trident best of both twin & four being a triple😁😆😂🤣.
Hornet is better looking I reckon than Gsx8s.None of these bikes have adjustable forks yet the Chinese built bikes like CF Moto & Motomorini 6 five have got adjustable forks & more bells & whistles than the Japanese & other bikes for cheaper.Price isn't everything though & can get a better made bike from a better brand for a little more £500-£750 more without adjustable forks but still good handling I would.

Thanks PT 😁 I know what you mean about the 145 but there is plenty of evidence of the SV650 exceeding the claimed 135 so I think we will soon see videos of the 8S exceeding that claimed 145. That aside, the lack of effort it travels between that 50-90 (I imagine) (research suggests) is incredible. 😁
@@TAYM I seriously doubt the sv can hit 135(or the 8S hit 145). I got 140 on the dial of my cb650f with 90hp only once with a 20+mph tail wind. It usually topped out at 128. Obviously only on the German autobahn here in Scotland 😅

@@idknils2920 but the 8S has two missing cylinders, the SV is now at the extremes in terms of meeting regulations on emissions. As far as I am aware the 750/4 wasn’t. There is a glitch in the matrix TAYM the rules say that Suzuki always follows Honda with a model which is faster and cheaper. Morning TAYM . To me this and the Hornet are in a different class to the SV , a higher performance level bike altogether.
The SV is really aimed at the new rider and smaller people with its seat height and clever " no stall" rev thingy. My local
Suzuki dealer's were REALLY happy when I told them the waiting time on the Hornet is now September! ... it will give them
a better chance to sell some 8S's
Picked up my new CL500 in green yesterday ....
@@TAYM SV quicker than Hornet ? .. I'm shocked! I've had an SV I'll have to take the Hornet out for a test now you've said that !
@@WyreForestBiker yup😁
They race SV’s very sorted underated bike. No way a beginners bike if you have the ability and experience. The engine is so energetic in mid range.
Yes, much more comfortable and less likely to get you in trouble 😁 thanks SW😁

Thanks KG 😁 yes with quick shifter 😁
Another bike i want to get a test ride on. Even though the Hornet has more bhp, is lighter and £1K cheaper, this 8S speaks to me more. Not sure about the styling, i'm getting a bit old for this modern pointy styling on todays bikes. Also i really dont like where the rear light is. But i will test ride one, even though its unlikely i'll want it to replace my current naked street, Yam XSR9.
You should definitely try one😁 it’s not the xsr9 but I think you will be surprised 😁 thanks JS 😁

Loved the review 👍
I've just got my brand new SV and yes I'd love this especially in black but I also got a cracking deal on my SV and couldn't really stretch to this £1500 more without free service for 2 years like I got, double the APR and more insurance ......will work up to this then 😊👍

Thanks IT😁 just had first service on my SV, absolutely love, fast or slow, it’s perfect 😁
I agree, we are definitely spoilt these days 😁 I don’t think there are many bikes that are not good😁 thanks C😁
Well put. To be fair Honda has often historically been tainted by the worthy but dull, safe, a bit ‘meh’ moniker with Suzuki’s being the opposite. However it seems the tables have been turned here. You nailed it with your write up.
Not a bike im interested in but i love how you do your reviews. I would love to see a 750 Rebel.

Thanks Crumb 😁 to my inexperienced hand, the speed difference is very noticeable , very effortless 😁
As an American who is starved for information on this bike - particularly rider reviews, I was super excited to see this come up
I just spent 25 minutes of my life to hear “hhaaauuggghhh” and the bike is “naughty” and tastes like chocolate with liquor inside.
Something like:
“The GSX-8S comes standard with a quick shifter HAAUGGGHH. It’s smooth and easy to use, which is naughty.”
Good luck on your future videos.

The thing is... Why would I pay a grand more for a bike with less power than the Honda??? Personally I prefer the looks of the Suzuki (though that's subjective) but that's a pretty huge price difference to justify.
You do get a quick shifter, quicker acceleration, higher top speed, more comfort for your grand 😁 thanks CD😁
That or I'll be believing manufacturers quoted MPG figures😉
As for comfort.
