Literally! Lol! My hubby does 3d modeling and he says he sees how corsets are like wireframe on 3d models. Corset designers are modern day magicians! Lol
Nooooo Between you, Bernadette Banner, and Morgan Donner I feel an immense need to make myself a corset despite me having only made 1 garment ever. The cording looks so beautiful and if/when I make my own I definitely want corded panels like that. These corsets you amazing youtube ladies are making are so much more interesting then the one's I've bought for costumes. Also I said it before on Instagram but your pattern matching on the front is like pornographic.
This was such a treat to watch! Your rotary cutting skills are making me wish I had one too! I love the black accents on this so much, it adds such a sexy contrast
As a solid size 14/16 ( US ) gal . THANK YOU for making all of the things. I love everyone in the sewingtube land. But most of them are a good deal smaller than me. I'm quite busty so to see how the corset looks on you is VERY helpful.
@@wynnew.h5245 I work at a Toronto fabricland and let me tell ya. The fashion district uses yards and we use meters unless it's foam. Then it's by the foot. 😭😬🤷♂️😭
I love how watching you and Bernadette make these corsets gives different insight into construction and how things fit together. It's inspiring, and really interesting to see your different tips and tricks!
You know. I keep telling myself that I’ll do something ambitious like this once I have enough confidence. However, I think I ought to just give it a go. Maybe if I just do it I’ll learn and become more confident
"Whoever said you don't need math for sewing....is totally wrong." YES! It's the one piece about sewing that I despise! And my goodness that is a BEAUTIFUL corset! O.O....I hope you're glasses didn't get scratched?! Needle breaks suck x_x
New to late 19th century costuming, but finding it fascinating, after 20+ years in the late Elizabethan eras. I've made one of the Laughing Moon corsets, but now I really want to try my hand at the Symington! Both you, and Bernadette have taught me so much, and inspired me! Thank you!
You do beautiful work. A person can always see when someone has been working with material for years, taking “short cuts” without sacrificing quality of the garment 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
That front hook on the corset was not just to hold the petticoats down, but also to hold the laces of the corset bellow the waist if you tied them in front yourself, as you would if you didn't have a maid to tie them for you (or if you were the maid 😆). All to keep the waist line as free from bulk as possible! I realize this is an old video by now, and maybe someone else already said this, but oh well 😆 This thing is a beaut! Making a victorian corset is a dream of mine, but it won't happen for a couple years more at least, so until then I'll be soaking up all the knowledge I can 🧐
It's so nice to see a sewing channel finally from a woman whose body looks like mine. You're so talented and a total inspiration for me. Can't wait to follow some of your tutorials.
Having the corset not pretty on the inside is actually very period correct. The inside of garments being "finished" all the time is actually a pretty new thing. I love love LOVED how detailed and specific this was. Thank you so much for the time filming, posting the video, and adding all the links. ❤️
I'm probably a newer follower, only just found out about the costube community. It's really inspiring watching all the different videos... makes me want to get into more historical sewing myself. This corset is sooo soo pretty. I've seen this on Bernadettes Channel and now I had to check out your video about it. Thank you also, for listing all the materials. It helps as a non english speaker to find the materials much easier than trying to listen and find out how it's spelt. :)
First of all, Bernadette send me, second, I have seen 2 seconds of this video and your introduction video and well, I know I'm already gonna love this.
Wow! Stunning! Thanks for inspiring me to get sewing again. It never ceases to amaze me what incredible details the Victorians put into all their creations. In most instances, these fabulous garments were only seen by the wearer.
REALLY interesting to cord tiny pieces and attach them to the corset! Lovely material choice, and somehow this makes flossing a corset look less scary! Thank you!
A MASTER PIECE!!!! not only as garment but also a great piece of engineering and construction process. CONGRATULATIONS AND THANKS A LOT FOR YOUR FOR SHARING
I'm currently making a Edwardian longline corset and watching this has given me some better ideas for doing certain parts of construction that I dislike about the current "instructions" I have. Thanks so much!
I just love how calm and lovely your commentary is throughout the video, like ASMR. Also, the fact that you wrote down the materials that you used are AMAZING for someone like me how JUST got a sewing machine 3 weeks ago
wow, your sewing skills are amazing, you're like a machine sewing wizard! And here I am, can't sew a straight line with seam sizes varying a lot. I really like your videos, keep up the great work!
Where do you buy fabrics and such in Canada? I've only been to Fabricland which, while it is wonderful, I find doesn't necessarily have the sort of fabrics I'm looking for
That was so detailed and informative, thank you very much! Your video definitely is so helpful and I will come back to it when I'm starting my corset sewing endeavours!
Thank You for your comment about sewing in math. I will be showing this to my nearly 11 yr old duaghter who hates math and doesn't believe me about using math for sewing becuase math is sooooo boring. With lots of eye rolling, lol. Anyways your corset turned out so beautifully! I love the fabric you chose, it's gorgeous. She's pretty emough to want to wear outside of your clothing.
Gorgeous corset! The sign of a well made corset is that the back opening where the grommets are is parallel to one another. Your dedication is inspiring!
I've been following corset making communities since about 2007 and it's really very heartwarming to still see Sidney Eileen's tutorials be referenced! I wonder how much activity there is these days in the livejournal community
So wonderful to see how you made the gorgeous corset. Never seen cording done before. I will happily be incorporating that in to some future garment. I loved your star constellation dress you made for COCO. Queen of the universe!
Your corset is beautiful 😊 I want to make myself one now! It's also great to see someone make a corset that's for a person who is a similar size to me. Thank you!
Love how it turned out! I have a victorian corset I made ages ago that need just final touches, and I have been contemplating lately how I can make it feel more fun. I fell out of love with the original trimming & color combo ideas, but the flossing might be one of the detailing I will try out. Checking out the library I think you mentioned right now and there are sooo many pretty designs! Thank you for introducing me to this technique.. :)
I love, love, love the color! You did an excellent job. It's too beautiful to hide below a garment. I'm enjoying your videos so much. Thank you for sharing this journey with us.
Marika, this is absolutely stunning! Well done. That brocade is beautiful. I've never seen corded panels before and it's such a clever addition! Thank you for the encouragement to finish my 18th c. stays.
Whoa. I love my rotary cutters and use them for _almost_ everything, but wow, I think I had a little adrenaline rush when you were trimming the boning channels at incredible speed (yeah, editing) after having done all that work to get there. Lol. I’ve made a number of proper corsets ( coutil + brocade, twill, steel and all that jazz) and I doubt I’ll ever have the guts to do that. Scissors only for me in close quarters. Anyway, it’s an absolutely beautiful piece! I’ve never been satisfied with the precision of my external boning channels. Much respect to you for making them look easy - and perfect.
Thank you for sharing this very calming production of a ptentially very nerve-wracking process! Your attention to detail and thoughtfulness in suggesting areas to take extra caution or hints is generous, helpful and shows how incredibly experienced and knowlegable you are! The only way I ever could handle math was because in sewing it has a practical application - the only way I could get my head around abstract forms was in ... fabric construction... Thank you ever so much for sharing passion and inspiration!
Such a nice video! I only just heard about your channel from watching everyone's CoCo vlogs and such :) Very inspiring for my own youtubing ventures! Also, metric system all the way - yes we need math when crafting, in my case mostly patternmaking for shoes, but it's the same/similar process as patternmaking for clothes and working in cm and mm is so much easier than fractions of inches!!
The corset looks fantastic! I can't wait to see what you make at CoCo! Good job! I wasn't going to make myself a new corset but I think I am going to. lol
as a Canadian as well I completely understand the switch from Inch to MM randomly as needed. When you grow up in paper sizes in inches but use metrics for more precise measurements. lol
A far easier, quicker and more logical way to do the cording than that shown in other tutorials. Am working on a set of short stays and was going to omit the cording because I couldn't face doing it the way shown in other videos. You have made me realise that this can be done without the pliars and heavy duty needles so I will put it in. Many many thanks.

Such meticulous work! I love that decadent fabric choice, and that flossing made my heart sing. Beautiful work! Also, those cording channels are GORGEOUS. I need to try and practice that technique before destroying - I mean - attempting my own corset. Accounting for the fabric "loss" while cording seems a bit tricky to my beginner brain. Admittedly, I still have a looong way to go before attempting to create a corset.
Beautiful, both you and the corset. I also have rotary cutter envy. You are a whiz with that thing! I'm lucky I can get things straight with a pair of shears. So glad that I've found your channel. Thanks for sharing your journey with us.
Thank you 😊 i love using a rotary cutter, especially when I am cutting fabrics like chiffon! I think the only tips I have for using a rotary cutter is go slow when you are starting, and practice, practice, practice! 😉
I literally finished my same period corset a week before you posted this! Your tips would have been very helpful during my process. I loved seeing it on you, too!
Ohhhh, you have created a sumptuously beautiful piece! 💞💞💞 Thank you for this inspiration! (PS~ as a fellow Canuck 🇨🇦, I appreciate the mention of using both metric & imperial measurements while sewing.. I do the same, and used to think there was something wrong with me! ☺️)

Absolutely right about the pattern matching its exquisite.
